Kranz endorses Horvath's opponent

Still bitter over her opposition to the last-minute Clark Avenue housing switcheroo?

(Poorly written and edited) press release:
Kranz explains, I have worked alongside her opponent for months—and it’s no contest. Elizabeth is the superior candidate. She has depth—and wisdom—which comes from life experience. She has endured hardship and bounced back. Elizabeth has the kind of maturity that inspires collaboration and helps get things done. That’s a quality you want in a representative.

“Elizabeth also has a stronger—and more balanced—command of the issues. Her background as a lifelong journalist, community advocate, and organizing leader with national nonprofits, demonstrates that she can dive deeply into complex legislation and grasp nuances that others miss. Elizabeth has been a watchdog for constituents here and throughout the state. She not only understands what matters locally, but she’s fought for change on critical issues at the national and international levels—and won. Her years of leadership, organizing grassroots activists from coast to coast to stop a congressional vote on the controversial Trans-Pacific Partnership, show that Elizabeth is tenacious—she has what it takes to play in the big leagues."
A further statement at the end of the press release missing a quotation mark and attributed to no one in particular but presumably meant to be from Kranz:
I urge everyone in the district to vote for Elizabeth Warren. We need a mature, experienced, selfless, hardworking leader representing us in Sacramento.”

  1. Little wonder observers at the last council meeting could feel the chill between from the peanut gallery seats. Brrrrrrrrrr.

It was about the same with the other two, Mark and Joe. Mark has large banners out on El Camino Real with he and Brandenberg together.

Poor foolish Joe selling out to Mark and Tony over L7 got him no lasting support.

    1. Mark has not endorsed anyone running for city council this election. The large sign is from the Police Department who have endorsed Mark and Tony. While the Fire Department has endorsed Mark, Joe and Catherine.

  2. This is not a surprise Tasha and Tony have been very open about their dis-like for one another. I also heard that Tony can barely work with Catherine.

  4. You gotta hand it to Tony, he's not afraid to call it like it is... His disdain for Tasha has been around for years.

    1. It has...and I'd love to see her call it like it is. Lots of his former base at the ready to give her fodder. There's plenty of it. See 6:22.

  5. Kranz has been against Horvath running for Assembly since she announced, when he recognized her undeservedly ambitious political intentions and realized she used city council as a stepstool to higher office, just as she used the planning commission before. He was quoted in the Coast news saying this. I think Tasha realizes she has no hope of winning over the voters of Encinitas - have you noticed how few Horvath signs there are around town? Tell your friends and coworkers in other cities throughout the 76th district to vote for Warren!

    1. Believe Shaffer and Blakespear felt the same as Kranz, but they quickly fell into line when no doubt chastised behind the scenes by the party.

Marco Gonzalez's sister is pushing hard for Horvath.

    2. Horvath is totally sold out to special interests - she'll do as she is told by them if she makes the Assembly. She is nothing more than a shill with no experience.

    3. 1:58 - wrong. Shaffer has also officially endorsed Warren, as stated on Warren's website. In fact many people in that apparently unified group have abandoned Tasha. She's done a lot of damage during her short time here in Encinitas.

    4. Good on Shaffer for sticking to her guns. Blakespear's another story.

  6. I'm voting for the guy running against Blakespear as a protest vote. Come 2 years we need to give her the boot! She's lies to everyone!!!

  7. On tonight's agenda. Once run out of town, he's back pushing vibrancy:

"Quarterly Status Report presented by Peder Norby."

  8. Peder? wtf? Just who thought this was a good idea to hire him after his past abject failure ignoring residents concerns?

  9. JP, if you insist on bringing your security blanket of a dog to the council chambers, at the least bring a pillowcase to put down on the seats that people will be sitting on.

Seeing your mutt scratching himself and licking his privates on seats that are meant for people is offensive.

I have been a dog person all my life and have never allowed these loved ones permission to jump up on furniture.

Show some respect for those that end up sitting on that seat next time.

Since there are no more council meetings before the election, I suppose this won't make any difference.

Still, your feeling like you have to bring your dog to public functions has shown you to be unable to vote for, even for those that are seeking a viable alternative.

It is all mute at this point. Putting up with you bringing your dog has been trying.

Many have been looking for a change but you blew that opportunity. I don't think you ever stood a chance, but bringing your security blanket emotional support creature with you was not helpful.

  10. 10;16, Norby has long been used by the city to push its agenda against residents.

You'll remember he almost had the city convinced they needed to hire consultant developers to redesign Cardiff, until a video was shown that proved Norby was lying about the outcome of the resident task force vote.

You'll remember Norby unwittingly helped Prop A pass when he "facilitated" a a group of mostly developers and recommended the city go to 4-5 stories. Unfortunately for the city, he did this on tape and put a lie to the council's claim that height had never been suggested.

Norby's contract was not renewed after too many residents stood up to complain about him. Guess the city can't get themselves enough of Norby.

  11. Horvath's cascade of political mailers are the same old, generic cliche images. There she is, with her right hand extended in some sort of benediction, with school kids, or a crowd of grinning people. It is the commercialization of a candidate that has no worthwhile credentials or experience, and is targeting those voters naive enough to fall for propaganda gimmicks. Horvath gerrymandered the districts in Encinitas and will reward her special interest sponsors by having her strings pulled by their lobbyists. Vote Elizabeth Warren - for an independent and intelligent candidate.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Warren is clearly independent. Intelligent not so sure. Based on her website, she seems to have gone bankrupt and puts the blame on free trade and mortgage debt. Does she have a college degree? Has she ever held a paying job? Do we want people who are bad with money in office?

      Delete
    2. Why don't you do the research and let us know, 11:52? Does her website state she has gone bankrupt? You seem to suggest she doesn't hold a college degree or paying job, and that she is bad with money. Instead of using innuendo, back up your statements. I'm afraid what you wrote is not compelling, especially coming from an anonymous poster.

Horvath is clearly comfortable engaging in dirty politics, which I gather doesn't bother you. I just can't tell whether she taught you or you taught her.

    3. 1:18 - I did my research. From her website: "My husband’s industry, which relied heavily on people having disposable income, was an early casualty. We survived on savings for a year but when our funds ran out we were forced to file bankruptcy and lost our home in an illegal foreclosure." I studied her website and found no mention of paying job or education, items one normally states. Horvath bothers me for the reason you state. I'm sorry you think I'm playing dirty, I simply got information from the candidate's website, and an not comfortable with her (nor Horvath).

    4. Thanks for posting the actual information. I don't agree with your calling folks holding back on spending money on discretionary purchases in times of trouble "blame on free trade," but that's your perspective. It's happened to many a good and savvy person and they come out the wiser for it, so again your assumption of "bad with money" shows a spin and assumption that could be wholly inaccurate.

I've met Warren on two occasions, spending some time with her and asking pointed questions. She supports and respects Prop A and right to vote voter-passed initiatives, unlike Horvath who waves her hand and calls opponents "those people." I'm completely comfortable with her.

    5. Thanks for your polite response. The free trade assertion comes from, "Destitute but determined, I donned my reporter's hat and began researching economic policy to understand what forces had put us and so many of our neighbors out of work and out of our homes." This was used as the bridge to a lengthy discussion on TPP. Free trade deals have had a tremendous impact in bringing millions out of poverty in much of the world, especially Asia. While we have lost jobs in some sectors, we have gained jobs in others. While this is not the forum to discuss good and bad trade deals, I got the impression that her opposition to free trade came from her view that this is what put "us and our neighbors out of work" in the preceding paragraph. I'm glad you are completely comfortable with someone you are voting for. That is rare and speaks well of your view of Warren.

  12. 2:59 Did you see Norby's presentation? Four takeaways: 1. Anything put in the NCTD right-of-way has to be 25 feet from the nearest rail. 2. Agencies above NCTD are for rails going under Leucadia Blvd. 3. Agencies above NCTD see trenching tracks through Leucadia as a good thing. 4. Carlsbad is going forward trenching tracks. Norby is a prime mover behind that.

    1. Norby is also a "prime mover" from day one on streetscape, announcing at the time that he saw "roundabouts as a unifying theme for Encinitas."

We are not Legoland, we don't need a theme, and there is no doubt Norby is back to push the city's agenda of overdevelopment.

  13. I have received Horvath campaign mailers every day for weeks now. Given the amount of money spent on Horvath's campaign by the special interest PAC's, and should she lose the election, she will be as big a loser as Francine Busby was earlier in the 2000's.

  15. Anyone happen to catch the three public speakers from the development industry the other night? They told an attentive council that Measure U's 10% very low affordable and 15% affordable are too great a burden to bear.

Keith Harrison said 5-7% might be ok, but suggested even that much would be a burden and zero would be better. He's a favorite down at city hall.

Brenda has the building industry advising on Blakespear's feasibility studies. Fox guarding the henhouse, anyone? Council knew exactly what they were doing and getting when they hired Brenda.

    1. Measure U - a sham and a fraud. It is a gift to the developers to maximize profits by jamming in more crowded and cramped development. There is nothing affordable about it.
      Vote NO.

  16. Here is another bs action by planning, and apparently approved of by council.

The in lieu fees that were supposed to only apply to those designated up zoned properties in Measure U, are back again for all qualifying developments.

What a stinker of a move. Surprised? Not after all the things that have been done to get us where we are now. Screw Measure FU. Vote it down.

    ReplyDelete
  17. The few things the city promised residents: 15% affordability, no in-lieu fees, who knows what else? are back on the table for developers to demand their way and our council to grant.

This is called a bait and switch in business. It's also fraudulent advertising.

Council treats us as stupid sheep and get Karen and Brenda to do their dirty work. If U passes they'll tell us it's what we wanted. DISGUSTING.

Send Blakespear a message and vote for JP Elliott. He may be an odd duck, but Blakespear is dangerous.

Tony Kranz, it's known you read the blog - likely others do too, but you even post on it. How about putting your big boy pants on and explaining yourself to the voters?

    NO ON MEASURE U.
