Leucadia turning European

 From the Inbox:

Marco is the legal advisor to this horror. Jackel donated $9,500 to Marco's PAC to keep Blakespear, Kranz, Hinze in office. A less compatible look with Leucadia would be impossible to imagine. It's part of the Housing Element Update forced on us by the council so there is no opposing it.

And incredibly, developer Larry Jackel said the design was based on a European village. He also made individual donations to the incumbents' campaigns in addition to the biggie to pal Marco.

  1. Where is Jeff Morris when you need him?

    Will he run?

    Probably not. All talk.

    1. Hate to bust the Jeff Morris Myth. There is no way he grew up in Compton and "on the streets". Both my husband and I grew up in the South Bay of Los Angeles, and all this stuff he claims he did is just that. Big talk and not much else. I didn't want to bust his claim, but c'mon, it's over, Johnny.

  3. Wow all that nice green passing hands.

There is nothing "European" about this mashup of the worst 10 projects inspired instead by Orange County.

  4. One guy is trying to lay ruin to Encinitas for dinero to line his pockets. Sellout. So much for caring about our community.

  6. Why is EVERY project proposed for Leucadia so BUTT-ugly? Can't we find any inspired architects?

  7. We ALL need to participate (zoom-in) on the next council meeting and pushback on this project. If we don't the developers win!

    1. They're already winning.

The mutually parasitic and highly profitable relationship among the developer, attorney advisor, and council members guarantees the developers win. No one council is going to lift a finger to stop what they already green lighted.

  8. If the property is privately owned, the owner should be able to chose how to develop the site. The government needs to get out of the way.

    1. It's called zoning, 1:32. It's common worldwide. Shenanigans aside it can be your friend but you don't know it.

Work for "property rights if you like, just don't complain when some crap project goes in four feet from your property line. You asked for it. I'm sure you'll enjoy.

    2. Zoning laws are a liberal scam. I should be able to build whatever I want on my property.

    4. LOL I am ABC and fully for strong zoning laws. You go for it, build whatever. Your neighbors they're gonna luv ya. They probably already do!

    5. 2:55 is not ABC. I am ABC. Zoning laws are a hoax, perpetrated by liberals to keep everyday people from maximizing the use of their own, god given property. The ability to own Real Estate is what separates us from communism. Any ability to restrict our property rights is a step towards Marxism.

  9. Anyone know if Gonzalez is an investor in Jackel? He's got way too much skin in the Encinitas land grab game in the opinion of many.

    1. I'm more than happy to answer for myself. I'm not an investor in any of the projects I currently represent in Encinitas, including this one. Not sure why you think that's relevant. I've been an advocate for additional multi-family housing for years.

    2. Just curious. Your "advocate" positions are well known. :D

    3. The money connection is blatant. Blakespear, Kranz, Hinze all benefited from Jackel's sizeable contributions to Gonzalez's PAC that ran what is considered by many one of the dirtiest campaigns ever seen in Encinitas. Lots at stake. It follows that the incumbents now owe both the developer and the PAC owner.

    4. Financial investment is completely relevant. Still the Jackel/Gonzalez PAC connection.

  11. Of course Mr. Gonzales is not an investor. The question should be - is he benefiting beyond bill-able hours? That is, side deals or other give-aways, at the expense of the city that pay for his services. If you can, please answer this yes/no question.

I absolutely benefit beyond the billable hours. I get the satisfaction of providing affordable housing to 20 deserving individuals or couples that will now be able to live here, west of the 101. I'll get the satisfaction of providing additional amenities and opportunities to Northern Leucadia and Ponto beach-goers, particularly as streetscape and other improvements bring multi-modal visitors to the areas (esp. more bikers and walkers). But other than those intangibles, there are no other "side deals or give-aways," whatever that means.

And FTR, no surprise, I'm not paid by the City.

But seriously, why are you all so chicken shit about putting your names to your comments?

    3. Before you climax as you pat yourself vigorously on the back, Gonzo, get a clue. You'll get the "satisfaction of providing affordable housing to 20 deserving" blah blah blah. You're an douchebag, but you're not a stupid douchebag. You know that the affordable housing system is nothing but a backdoor into below-market priced real estate for well-to-do buyers.

I've seen it happen more than once. A "low-income" buyer, usually family, typically an older individual, is used as a proxy or a front for the money behind the purchase. It requires an investment in time, but given real estate returns in the coastal So. Cal areas, its a high return game. Like most government programs intended to accrue benefits to low income people at the expense of high income people, the rich who exploit these legislated gifts are much smarter than the government idiots who continue to believe in government-designed wealth redistribution.

Gonzo knows this, or should know it. His sister, the socialist politician Lorena Gonzalez, is notorious for drafting this sort of pandering legislation that ingratiates her to low income voters, but doesn't actually assist low income voters. An analysis of the source of funding for these sorts of real estate deals would reveal this, but the media doesn't like to report actual news of government incompetence unless it impacts a certain political party. That party isn't in control in these parts.

    4. 11:23 - it's the very definition of hypocrisy. The tired lines have been exposed for what they are but this ilk are the last to know. Too busy admiring themselves in the mirror.

    5. Marco - I appreciate that you engage in forum and do so by name. Residents of Leucadia need not, in my opinion, identify themselves any more than as residents to be credible and have a voice. Your are part of a massive build-out of "north Leucadia" - I guess that the gruesome hotel on the bluff is the cornerstone of the vision. Under the guise of serving 20 low-income folks, you are facilitating the gross build-out, at an unprecedented speed, of Leucadia. This is not serving those of us that live in Leucadia. Please "serve" somewhere else.

  12. European village??? I've been all over Europe and have never seen anything that looks like that picture. Looks more like a bunch of 1970's apartment buildings. Who's the designer, Herman Munster?

  13. I watched the check-the-box presentation. Jackel, his partner, Gonzalez...all oozed "by right" this and "by right" that.

The moderator cherry picked the comments and read off commendations for the amazing project and how such an "amenity is needed to clean up a rough area." Jackel nodded and smiled at that comment. How rude, but how not surprising.

The project will leave yet another part of Leucadia screwed. But Jackel lives in Solana Beach and Gonzalez is bent on the big bank.

  14. This is horrible! How can Mayor Thunder and Council members Riley and Turney allow this to happen? Is there anything Supervisor Gaspar can do during her next term to help us? We should take this all the way to President Trump as soon as he is inaugurated again, enough is enough!

  15. Was it my imagination or was Gonzalez sounding a bit nervous, choosing his words just a little too carefully, and looking somewhat freaked out? He wasn't sporting the usual backward baseball cap so maybe that explains the lack of usual bluster and swagger. *Shrugs*

    1. Your imagination, for sure. And what's your fascination with my hats? I am in the sun a lot and skin cancer runs in my family (and no surprise I have little hair), so I've worn a hat almost every day for the last 30 years. Your comment is so petty, it's no wonder you're afraid to put your name on it.

    2. Well actually not my imagination, those I trust thought the same.

Most won't put their names on posts that involve you. You've got a nasty tendency to throw out threats of lawsuits the way other people change their underwear. ;)

  17. Gonzalez blusters about a handful of affordable units - big whoop. He conveniently doesn't mention the vast majority at luxury market rate that keep us on endless affordable housing treadmill. The only satisfaction he enjoys comes from job security and the all perk$.

  19. They should change the name of this site to Conspiracy Encinitas! I assume you are all listening to the City Council meeting on the housing plan right now right? Understand the law? Provided meaningful input? Or no, just anonymously bitch and scream conspiracy in this echo chamber? That's a power position for sure... Keep it up, it's entirely ineffectual as you've noticed and it's making the developers lives easier. However, I have some promising news - an anonymous high ranking City staffer who goes by "E" is about to expose the extent of the devil worship going on among the Encinitas cabal. Stand down and stand by - I will have Eanon stickers, t-shirts, and flags available for purchase soon...
