Nancy Lee Ellis held for trial March 15

San Diego Reader:

On February 15, a judge ordered 64-year-old Nancy Lee Ellis held for trial on five different arson charges, four of which are felonies. Ellis is pleading not guilty.

Testimony at the preliminary hearing suggested that Ellis was agitated because the man she lived with, Robert Duell, was out of town at a film festival, and Ellis was denied an opportunity to accompany him. It was alleged that Nancy Lee Ellis drove her car to an apartment duplex on Regal Road in Encinitas, where a woman named Marianne LaPiedra lived. Marianne LaPiedra said she has been a “close friend” of Robert Duell since 1973.

Robert L. Duell appears to be a dentist with addresses in Laguna Hills and in Cardiff overlooking the lagoon. And he's been letting Nancy rot in jail for seven months because he's too cheap to come up with the $7,500 bail bond fee? Honey, he ain't worth burning a car over!

  1. Sounds like the slammer is a good place for her to "cool" her heels.

    1. Actually jail was not bad at all, Robert came to see me every weekend and he kept money on my books so I always had everything I wanted and I always shared with the women that didn't have anything. Our dorm was fun and we had parties. Yes, friends also put money on my books and I thank them for that, it means alot. It was my choice to stay and not be bailed out because I was still too angry at her. Since my release Robert had died, somehow most of my jewelry, expensive clothing, and household items were missing, but fortuinately Robert had put a substantal amount in my bank account before he passed. All is great with me. Nancy Ellis

  2. i was in jail with this woman, she is the meanest most evil little woman you will ever meet. she goes to court and trys to play up her sweet little old granny role, when really she makes jokes about it constantly. she nicknamed herself 'Scorch'. she constantly says that she would do it again. she puts people down by using racist remarks and i beleive she should get the worst punishment possible. she is unstable and needs to be incarserated.

    1. I second that all the way. Evil, selfish, liar. She manipulates and takes advantage of the weaker and generous, kind hearted people. like my mother. he tried to pull her fake personality on me but I wasn't falling for it. My mom thought she could trust her and that they were friends but it was all a show with Nancy. she needs to go jail with no money on her books but I know karma will get her. If you read this you know who this is. Nice to know other people feel the same way about you I. I'm not the only one who sees the real you.

  3. I was in jail with her too and for quite some time and I constantly try to find information about her case which is what led me to this blog post. She was the sweetest most caring person you could imagine and one of the only people who helped me get through my ordeal. I still write her letters and put money on her books to this day. If someone has negative to say about her it's probably due to fault within them self. Obviously the person above can't even spell simple words like "believe" and "incarcerated" so i would take what they say with a grain of salt. And for the record, she didn't nickname herself ANYTHING, that was someone else that did. To say otherwise would be irresponsible and libelous. Nancy acted out of passion and unfortunately things went haywire in the process. She is hardly unstable and I've seen her remorseful and regretful on many occasions and she has been in custody for almost a year repaying her debt to society. You can't understand the severity of the conditions for a mature woman unless you've been there yourself.

  4. And as for Mr. Duell.. He doesn't have the money to pay the bail because HE'S DYING OF CANCER and it's 98% likely that if Nancy get's bailed out she'll only have to return in to custody once again to lose all of that money that's been put up for bail that would be better spent on lawyer's fees or paying her restitution or hell, even on commissary so that she has accessibility to life's basic necessities which definitely aren't provided by San Diego County.
