Former Sierra Madre Councilman Joe Mosca appointed to Parks & Rec Commission

In February, controversial former Sierra Madre Councilman Joe Mosca applied for the Parks & Rec Commission.

Last night, the City Council appointed Mosca to fill a vacancy on the commission.

Judging by his past and his political affiliations, Mosca will run for City Council, and he'll align with the Barthist "Smart Growther" faction on the council.

More on Mosca's history at Sierra Madre Tattler.

  1. I would note this: The guy who runs the Tattler is obsessed with Mosca, I mean it goes on and on about how he hates this guy. I've watched the meetings, read up independently. hard to say what Mosca's bonifides are or are not. Sierra Madre is an extremely small town near Pasadena where people get inflamed over a new restaurant opening. I think you need to judge for yourself on Mosca with what he does here, not on the say so of a total crank like the guy who runs the Tattler, who BTW, is a failed candidate for city council.

Here's another name, William Morrison. Look for him to run. Got that from this blog...

You don't have to believe what you learn from the Tattler. You'll see yourselves what kind of integrity Mosca has. Good luck.

    2. I guess The Tattler was as obsessed with Mosca as this blog is obsessed with Stocks? Sometimes there are things that just have to be discussed.

    3. 8:42 nailed it.

How obsessively must one Google Mosca's name to find, read and comment on this thread within 45 minutes of it being created?

      Dude sounds like a stalker.

I'm not saying Mosca is good or bad. Just saying I'll make up my own mind based on first hand observation.

    4. 8:42 and 10:04 the same person posting...clearly drumming up fake support for Mosca and sounding oddly like the new pro-developer voice on EU. Mosca's behavior caught on video is bad enough, judge with your own ears and eyes, folks.

  4. Get a clue people. The Commissioners, with the exception of the Planning Commission, have no power, especially Parks and Rec. They were not allowed to do one thing on the huge park, nor were they allowed to do much of anything. The not so new director, Lisa, won't stand for it. Don't worry, he'll find this out fast enough.

10:46 is absolutely right. Mosca will run for council. The Parks & Rec gig is just to meet and greet the folks. Watch him work the seniors.

    4. When Mosca left the council chambers, a small group of obstructionist lured him over to "congratulate" him. He seemed nervous, said a few words, and quickly left.

He definitely needs to be watched. All 28 obstructionists will be watching.

      Delete
  5. How did that work for Lorri Greene and Doug Long? I rest my case.

    ReplyDelete
  6. He'll be watched. The 28 has grown significantly in number and are not afraid to publicly shame (sorry, Lisa!) as often as needed. Existing information alone will be very useful when the time comes.

  7. Please oh please will one - just one - of the (ever expanding) 28 please run for city council?!?!?!?!?

    3. Sheila and Julie I believe. Hold on to your hats, I think there will be some somewhat familiar faces in the race come next year...

      Delete
  8. Yes they did. That would be Sheila Cameron and Julie Graboi. It takes a lot of money to run a city council race in this City. About 20-30K at least. If you don't have the backing of some wealthy donars, you will lose. Lerch spent 20K only a few weeks before the election and almost won, with his slick, glossy mailers. There are a lot of folks out there that don't have that kind of money, including Graboi and Cameron. How many of you pitched in? That's why the 28 plus cannot win. It's great to complain, but I don't see any PAC money coming from the people who want the City to maintain its Community Character. Especially up against the money Ecke, Mayer, Harwood, and Gaspar has. The only person who could possibly win is Lorri Greene, but you all seem to think she is crazy. However, she has the money and the influence that some of you don't even know. I asked her to run, and she said NO. Don't know if she could be persuaded, and of course, on this blog, would harass her for no particular good reason. Oh yes, I remember. You didn't like what she said about Jerome. talk about hypocrits. I'd vote for her in a heartbeat. She was on Parks and Rec. for 5 years and does know where the bodies are buried (besides Sabine that is).

    1. Tony and Lisa won without the big money, and others have in the past as well. I like Dr. Lorri, but I can't see her A.) Running B.) winning. There are some other folks out there who could run and win. Who thought Blakespeare would run and win? Keep and open mind and be ready to work hard as usual. The forces of darkness will always have more money....

    2. Kranz, Shaffer, and Blakespear all had Democratic Party endorsements and mailers.

It's been a long time since anyone has won without a major party endorsement. And the major parties don't like outsiders.

      Delete
    3. The endorsement is, was and always will be key, because they have some cash to help with mailers. Let's face, most people's information on the election is that mailer or and endorsement from the party they know. Catherine definitely had some oomph behind her, as did Lerch, who almost got there despite finishing last. This isn't about skill, it's about who you know and who you can get to fund you. In the old days we could pull one out with good old hustle, but those days are gone. It's basically down to hoping you get a Holz, not a Guerin....

Don't forget. Lisa pretended to support the same things that the obstructionists do. She took our money and other resources and then betrayed us. The fact that Kristen and Lisa both supported Joe last night was enough to tell me who he is.

This is vintage Mosca - he never does anything; it's always done to him.
He's stalked, he's persecuted, he's the object of obsession, while all the while he is simply a sweet little tyke wanting to do good things for villages that he loves.
It's so funny that he's into the hiking trails - one of his cringeworthy acts to get elected in Sierra Madre was to borrow a friend's golden retriever for a photo op that was used heavily on his campaign material. He talked about hiking here, too.

When a councilman turns on the people who got him elected to the degree that Mosca did, the interest in getting the truth out about him doesn't die down just because he bails. The guy is a liar. Since you don't seem to like the Tattler, skip the articles and read the comments about Mosca. Look at the films on Neuroblast. Watch Joe in action. But better yet, you're right - wait and see what he does to your town.

    3. Oh, Sierra Madre loves to gossip about Joe Mosca. You should hear some of the speculation about why he suddenly resigned his City Council seat midterm and left the country. He'll sell Encinitas out in a heartbeat. You just wait and see!!

I ask you flat out, what did he do to Sierra Madre. Bullet points or links. happy to read it if there is something approaching a fact...I've seen those city council meetings, there's a lot of personal mudslinging, which sadly is similar to Encinitas...

  13. FYI guys, Sierra Madre is a tiny town of rich people next to Pasadena. It's like 10,000 people. Encinitas is 60,,000+ In sierra Madre, they argue about where to park a bike. It's known for being a tempest in a teapot. I'd be careful about drawing any conclusions from all the bickering over there in the past. I give Mosca a shot based on what he does down here. The question is, should you believe everything he says (some people on here seem to) or should you do your own research, exercise your own thinking ability and form your own opinion.

Sounds like you might want to just suck up what this guy is saying hook line and sinker.

As of now, he's not running, but if he does, I'll look at what he proposes and go from there. I'm just not going for the hook and sinker from some cranky blogger from out of town. Must of the stuff on that blog is just tit for tat, axe grinder personal stuff. Hmm, sounds like a town I know where people talk about how they got their house or whether they're a trust funder.

You criticize blogs, yet you take the time to post. Why are you wasting your time here with your Anonymous posts? There is something very insincere about your comments. They sound more like a defense of Mosca rather than an independent assessment. That would require examining all the evidence, starting with the Tattler and then going to all the local surrounding newspapers. There's nothing insincere about my posts. My posts are less about Mosca, than it is about convicting someone by use of anonymous posts.

I looked at the Pasadena Star News, the Sierra Madre Weekly, the LA Times etc? What papers did you look at? I watched the youtube footage of the council meetings.

Apparently I didn't see what you saw. Mosca apparently resigned to move with his Partner to London, more concrete examples than that I couldn't find. The rest was the usual whining and moaning over "the mayoral rotation" and other minor issues.

I'm from that area, Sierra Madre is a small ass town, nothing happens there, period. They argue over house remodeling, widening a street and other important topics. There are no malls or new developments in Sierra Madre.

Just because I don't share your lockstep hatred of Mosca doesn't make my opinion less valid. Go on hating him, I'm going to be working with other community members to find good candidates to run for office, the same way I've been doing it for the last 20 years.

Hello 7:04AM-- If you looked at the news sources you cite in Para. 3, you would have seen 'concrete examples'. Like this one: papers were filed to recall Joe Mosca. People who worked on his campaign, people who voted for him, wanted to kick him out of office. And they would have done just that if he hadn't left town so sudden-like.

Hatred wasn't the reason given on these formal documents. Lying to voters and betraying his supporters were key factors. We also didn't appreciate his public disrespect for public comment speakers at Council meetings. That should make Encinitas voters think carefully about this candidate.

And where exactly are you from, by the way? If you think a mall in the heart of Sierra Madre is a good idea, I really have to question your judgement. And we don't like you calling us a small-ass town, either. It's not like Encinitas is New York City.
