Baird feels heat at EUSD board meeting; parents demand termination & threaten board recall

Coast News:
“The superintendent colluded with the Sonima Foundation and Scott Himelstein at the University of San Diego to falsify research about the yoga program to induce the district to implement and continue this yoga program,” said Anna Hysell, an immigration attorney who has children in the district.

“Because you colluded to defraud the district with false research, and your role in the Sonima Foundation as a board member, you are in violation of California fraud and conflict-of-interest laws, as well as the federal False Claims Act and you are subject to prosecution,” she said to Baird.

Hysell said she is handing over all the evidence she has gathered to the Office of the Inspector General at the U.S. Department of Education, the California Audits and Investigation Unit and the San Diego Civil Grand Jury.

  1. Baird will have to do the Hatha Yoga cobra pose to de-stress. How does he look in stripes? Gaspar can council him on "character".

  2. It about time they fire Baird ..... Actually 7 years too late.

    Send him to jail.

  3. As someone who was definitely not a fan of Tim Baird, the results from this Yoga program have changed my mind about him. This one he got right, along with promoting nutrition in schools. The selfish parents that want to go backwards instead of forwards, need to do some deep breathing and introspection.

    1. What results? Their own research demonstrated NO RESULTS in at least four areas they were trying to measure. I like yoga too, and it was an interesting research question. What upsets me is that Baird made claims that were not born out by the study and wanted to raid the General Fund to benefit his own agenda. This is shameful.

    3. The result is fine, but conflict of interest, a $800k bill to continue the program are another issue that has to be dealt with...

  4. Why does everyone feel the need to go immediately to eleven around here?

It's not good enough to question the prioritization of $800k for this program over other spending options?

How much you want to bet there's no criminal indictment for Baird? If this group really thought they had evidence of criminal conduct, the dumbest move on earth would be to hand Baird the detailed evidence before an investigator has a chance to question him. Since this lady is a lawyer, she knows that. This is just grandstanding for the purpose of creating negative PR as retaliation for the court loss.

    1. You are probably right - the DA and the US Attorney have limited resources and can only prosecute the higher profile public corruption cases.

However, there was a very clear, deliberate fraud perpetrated by Baird here, and it is not just those dissatisfied with the earlier litigation who are upset. I agree with the Court of Appeal in its finding that the yoga as taught in the district has been sufficiently stripped of religious elements. But I do not like public official knowingly telling lies to justify self-serving expenditures.

I think the vast majority of parents believe that science instruction is more important than yoga instruction. However, Baird and the board believe that yoga should receive district funds while science is left to rely on parent donations. Does anyone seriously defend that position (other than Baird and the board, who receive awards and junkets for promoting yoga)?

I think this community deserves better.

    2. It's called the buddy system. Since when do possible crimes of public officials get glossed over? When Dumanis is the DA, that's when! Remember Dalager? He was allowed to walk. The system is rigged, if you haven't figured it out yet.

  5. WC, I feel for you having to deal with this 'person' who keeps posting the same ugly racist crap on every thread. This low life should be outed and publicly humiliated, but freedom of speech comes first.

Keep on deleting him, please. His ugliness is nothing but a pollution of this site. Making fun of him like the previous poster is a welcome relief. I hope all the creative minds we have around here will do the same every time this pos tries to steer conversation away from the topic toward the same old, same old bs.

Whoever this person is needs to get a life and spare us any more of your ugly, low on the evolutionary scale, diatribes. The rot within will surely have its day but in the meantime WC, we count on you to delete his rotten to the core ramblings.

We have a treasure here on EU and it takes all kinds, but this scum needs to be outlawed from anymore posting, if that is possible. Thank you WC.

  7. Perhaps it should be given its own blog so those of us with more than two brain cells to rub together can get on with the points of the various threads.

That way it make endless and repetitive posts to itself and be free of bothersome critics.

  9. WC, thanks so much for taking out the trash this morning. Considering the source, you may have to repeat this on a regular basis and that is a shame. It is great see a humane consciousness prevailing here. There are so many that depend on you for the truth in our community and to see EU despoiled by a hater was hurtful. This reaffirms the values we have in you and our community's values. The breath of a freshened air on this valuable source is a reward onto itself. You are appreciated in so many ways.

    1. This is one kindly snd softly thanking you for censoring ones points on a specific group of people in our community. I did look up a few of his/her claims and was surprised to be able to connect a few dots. Censoring anyone's voice is not right here in the United States. I just learned that just last week a new law was created in Italy that if anyone questions the Jewish holocaust they can go to jail for two to six years! Why can't such an event be discussed and dissected? What is someone trying to hide to go as far as creating an Orwellian law outlawing any discussion? Time will tell as whatever the truth is, it always comes out.

  10. This is about misappropriation of taxpayer money at EUSD. Academics before "Health & Wellness." The $800K should go to academic programs before yoga instructors. If you want your kids to learn yoga, take them to a class like those of us who take our kiddos to ballet, karate, soccer and a myriad of other extra curricular activities.

    1. Misappropriation of funds isn't the same as "I disagree with the budget priority."

    2. Allocating $800k to a program which advances the interests of an organization on whose advisory board you sit is a misappropriation, not merely a disagreement over budget priorities.

  12. "We are a nation of immigrants" and named Omar Mir Seddique Mateen just killed 50 Gay/Lesbian/Tranny's in Orlando, Florida. Another one named Mainak Sarkar killed a UCLA professor two weeks ago in Westwood, California and Cho Seung-Hui killed 32 people in Blacksburg, Virginia in April 2007. And let's please not forget about dear Kate Steinle murdered by one Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez. What do all of these immigrants (some legal, some illegal) have in common? NONE of them are Christian and have Christian values....build the wall and find out who is really behind massive immigration to and why.

Continuing, George Custer was killed by a bunch of Native Americans so should they all be deported back to Asia?

In fact, contrary to common perception, Europe was a much more dangerous place 20-30 years ago from a terrorism perspective. However, the higher body count was primarily driven by domestic terrorism conducted by separatists in Spain (ETA), and Ireland (IRA).

The human organism has a fascinating ability to perceive risk out of all proportion to statistical facts. Think of the fear and news coverage of sharks, relative to the risk of driving to the beach before entering the water. We fear the shark, but not the other drivers, even though the other drivers are by far the greater threat.

The actual data on terrorism deaths in Europe over time can be found here.

    5. Maybe the US should stop waging war in the Mideast. We've exported billions of dollars worth of arms into the region and armed ISIS.
We've toppled governments and displaced millions of people. Since the US invaded Iraq, the dead are estimated to be between 1 and 3 million. When the violence finds its way back here, everybody freaks. This was one guy - severely mentally imbalanced. As someone else said, 50 can die in Chicago shootings in a week. Where's the indignation there?

  13. The idea of bulding a wall is about as dumb as they come. I mean like special ed, brain damage type of dumb. No time in history, since the invention of the latter and shovel, has a wall ever stopped anything. these trump parrots are just too damn dumb to think for themselves. If you are going to come up,with a dumb idea at least be a little creative. How about flame throwing drones instead of a wall? 8:52 would like that because he is a halfwit and that ignorance makes him scared of EVERYTHING. Coward.

  14. Back to the topic of the thread. The State of California has standards for reading and science. I am not aware of yoga standards. Why would any responsible board or school administrator not first focus funds to meet state standards?
