Trumpocalypse Now! Gaspars' budding political careers die in Trumpster fire

Back in June, it looked like Kristin Gaspar was a shoo-in for Supervisor.  We noted:
What's really got to have Gaspar backers excited is that Roberts pulled only 39% of the vote, while the two Republicans pulled a combined 61%. With most Abed supporters likely to vote Gaspar in November, Gaspar is now the clear favorite to win the seat.
Similarly, Logan Jenkins in the U-T:
[...] the highly disciplined Gaspar is the odds-on favorite to beat incumbent Dave Roberts in the general election.

Again, that’s not preference talking. It’s the implacable math.

Get out your own calculator.

Roberts won a pathetic 39 percent of Tuesday’s vote. 39 percent.

Not since incumbent Supervisor Paul Eckert, a deeply wounded candidate, finished third in the 1986 primary has a sitting supervisor performed so poorly in a primary.

For her part, Gaspar earned 34 percent while skirmishing with another well-funded Republican mayor, Escondido’s GOP-backed Sam Abed.

“I think it will be tough for Dave to capture Sam’s voters,” Gaspar told me, doing her best not to smirk at the self-evidence of the statement.

If you give Abed’s rock-ribbed conservative votes to the center-right Gaspar, which you logically must, she trounced Democrat Roberts by more than 20 points.
Indeed.  Gaspar was on the cusp of seizing one of the most prized and powerful public offices in the county.  And then this happened:

Despite Donald Trump's stunning national upset tonight based on strength in blue-collar rust belt states, the vulgar Trump was then and remains now politically toxic in moderate, well-educated North San Diego County. Gaspar's huge unforced error revived Robert's near-dead campaign.

Compounding the error of Gaspar's spontaneous Trump endorsement were a couple of more deliberate bad ideas. First, Paul Gaspar's decision to pretend to be a medical doctor in campaign ads, presumably on bad advice from a consultant (Paul Gaspar's campaign filings show payments to the same consultant that council candidate Phil Graham used, to ruinous effect). Second, Kristin Gaspar's decision to trump up a charge of Brown Act violations against council members Blakespear and Shaffer, a charge that neither the public, nor the city attorney, nor even Gaspar's colleague Mark Muir bought. Tonight, Paul Gaspar has lost the mayor's race in a landslide, and Kristin Gaspar is down by two points with 72% of the vote in. How quickly fortunes change.

UPDATE: Or not!  Gaspar surges in late counting of absentee and provisional ballots.

  2. 10 point spread on Measure T- Huge win especially considering all that developer money going into facebook adds to deceive the public.

    "Local control" - Sfpppp.

Tomorrow, City Hall staff has some explaining to do to City Council on why they were pushing the stack and pack sooo hard for developers well beyond the needed and logical plan.

Is the City Manager going to finally hire some Directors who care about the citizens of Encinitas's quality of life over the developer profits?

We shall see. Considering the candidates good election results. I guess our bays don't need saving. Ha Graham - go that your developer paid program to some other City for your political wantabe resume.

Catherine, Tony, and Tasha better appoint a good 4th Council member to put a choke hold on Muir, and squeeze the developer interests out of him.

So long to Gaspars and Mikey shouldn't carry any credit at City Hall after this trouncing!!!! Assream is a tool and should stay in Oceanside. That is what Gaspars get for listening to that tool.

  3. Gaspars were a disaster - good riddance. Kristin was a gamble for Supervisor - she had Peter Principled out at the city level. Even hiding and avoiding debates didn't help - she shot her mouth off enough to wound herself. $650,000 wasted on Barbie - her political career is finished! And Paul Gaspar is just a pathetic joke - arrogant loudmouth.

But this is over-shadowed by der Fuerher Trump's win. America just stepped on a banana peel at the top of a very steep stairwell. Enjoy the ride - to the bottom!

  6. In the wake of the The Donald getting the keys to the castle, the fact that the Great Gaspar Reign of Incompetence has finally come to an end is actually a pretty decent consolation prize. Now we don't have to worry about her mom showing up to tell the other "mean Councilmembers" that it's her turn on the Mayoral carousel. Nor do we have to watch her learn how to play politician on the job any longer. The male version suffered a namesake and honesty issue. 1. We've had dual language immersion in our schools for years. It's 100% optional for the native English speaking families. Part of the day is taught in English, and part in Spanish. The percentage of time spent in each language shifts toward English each year. After a few years in the program, all classes revert to 100% English. We now know that kids learn language better from other kids, because kids don't speak the same way as adults. The program is more successful at migrating Spanish speakers to English than throwing them in the deep end of the pool, and their academic outcomes are far better. They are less likely to disengage, fail, and/or drop out of school. The native English speakers' grades suffer somewhat in the first two years, as they pickup Spanish. After that, the native English speakers catch up and surpass the grades of their single-language peers. Especially in math. For some reason there is neural development in multi-lingual people that helps with math.

  14. Please, God, don't let Council appoint Barth to take Blakespear's Council seat, for two years. Despite Teresa Barth's bitter recriminations, the Brown Act violations weren't "trumped up." The initial endorsement, of Trump by Kristin Gaspar, later rescinded, after more allegations of inappropriate behavior toward women came out against Trump, was a mistake. The Mayor's agendizing, at a public Council meeting, a formal complaint by a former Traffic Commissioner of past and a very recent Brown Act violations, was what the letter to Council demanded. A public hearing process is also the proper procedure according to the Brown Act, itself.

As of now, with some mail in ballots still uncounted, KG is 1.8% behind. She made a decent showing in an area that is primarily democrat. In this County, Hillary Clinton received 56.05% of the vote. Kristin Gaspar's "budding political career" is not dead, unless she wants it to be.

Whoever wrote the headline for this post is guilty of hyperbole. We've had enough of that to last several lifetimes. The better headline here would be that No on T prevailed by 56.03%, at the most recent count.

  15. Trump winning the election was not a surprise.

The media wants the citizenry to believe that, so that citizens don't look at the role the media played the past 18 months in spreading lies and misinformation.

Millions of American citizens, of all races, colors, genders, sexual orientations and creeds waited in line to hear Mr. Trump speak the past 18 months. His message of enforcing current immigration laws, writing trade deals to protect American families and ending the corrupt rigged system was well received.

While candidate Trump was speaking before tens of thousands candidate Clinton needed to rely on paid union operatives to make it appear her support was larger than it truly was. In the end Clinton relied on out of touch selfish celebrity millionaires like Jay Z, Beyoncé, Springsteen and other arrogant elitists to draw her crowds.

Trump campaigned with Angel Moms- moms who lost children to the violent crimes of illegal immigrants. Trump campaigned with "twinks for Trump" - gay people seeking a country that would protect them from Islamic Jihadi's who throw homosexuals off of buildings. While Hillary campaigned with Al Sharpton, Trump met with small town church leaders in the black community to discuss real solutions.

Candidate Trump winning was not a surprise.

The now exposed crooked media and polling companies lied to American citizens nightly for 24 months. CBS, the NY Times, WSJ, ABC, CNN, Frank Luntz, Quinipiac all had the same data that showed incredible support for candidate Trump, but they found ways to manipulate information, manufacture a false story line and lie to mislead voters. They have been exposed and we as a people must hold them accountable. Fox, CNN, CBS, ABC are liars and a threat to liberty. They are not journalists, they are propagandists. The Ceasar Flickerman of the modern age.

After lying for 24 months the crooked talking heads are trying to restore credibility claiming the win was a 'surprise'. It isn't.

    We know that :

CNN conspired with the Clinton campaign and committed fraud on millions of Americans by having a CNN "debate" that was rigged when CNN gave Clinton the questions in advance.

The NY Times conspired with the Clinton campaign to deceive American citizens when it gave editorial oversight to the Clinton campaign and then printed pro-Clinton propaganda while telling voters it was "unbiased reporting".

We know that ABC, CNN, CBS, NBC, Fox and other outlets all attended a secret dinner with the Clinton campaign just prior to her announcement and conspired to commit fraud on the America. On the agenda for the meeting included "messaging". They presented this "messaging" as "unbiased news".

We know that the leadership of both parties- the Bushes and Buffet, the Koch Brothers and Soros all actively worked against candidate Trump.

The results of this election were only a surprise to those who believed the "narrative' being told by the crooked media and ruling elites was true.

The election was won on the issues.

Immigration- enforce our current laws to protect and benefit citizens.

Trade- write trade deals to benefit American families and American workers.

Security- enforce laws to protect American families and citizens.

The question before the citizens of America was either we have a country that serves citizens or we don't.

There is no reason to ever believe ABC, CNN, USA Today, Fox, the NY Times , the WSJ or any other pollster. They have been exposed. They are liars.

They called us racist, bigots, sexists, angry. They tried to marginalize us, ridicule us and disenfranchise us.

We are simply Americans of all races, colors and creeds who know you can't fix a rigged system by electing the people who rigged it.

    Drain the swamp.

There is no reason to believe the crooked press is telling the American people the truth of the vote totals.

CNN committed fraud in rigging the debates.

The NY Times committed fraud presenting Clinton prepared propaganda as "unbiased journalism".

Jake Tapper and Wolf Blitzer colluded with Clinton asking Clinton to write interview questions of candidate Trump-

Peter Kradzik of the DOJ colluded with the Clinton campaign sending "heads up" emails to the Clinton campaign.

CNN conspired with the Clinton campaign to manufacture "messaging narratives" before releasing poll results.

The crooked entities ABC and Washington Post manufactured a false poll claiming Hillary was leading by 12%, 7 days later she lost.

The citizens of Wisconsin voted for a new vision, new leadership and new representation.

The citizens of Penn voted for new leadership, a new vision and new representation.

The citizens of Ohio voted for new leadership, vision and representation.

Candidate Trump was opposed by the globalist Soro and Koch, a crooked media and a crooked Uniparty working in tandem to mislead voters- yet he still prevailed.

Candidate Trump got more people to vote in the GOP primary then any other election.

Candidate Trump got more voters to register for the GOP in the general election in history. He blew candidate Romney away.

Is there reason is to believe the election was even close? the ones promoting the election was close is the press- the same press that colluded to defraud voters, mislead citizens, suppress the vote and rig the election.

We know there was voter fraud, people were arrested. We know there was voter fraud- people who were dead , and voted, were caught. We know there was voter fraud- election machines owned by a George Soros backed company were registering votes for Hillary- before a single person had even voted. These are some of the frauds we know of.

We now know the press lied to America and hoped they would get away with it. They have been exposed.

There is no reason to trust a word the press reports.

    9. So you believe the distributed and fragmented state and local election systems that delivered the electoral college, but you don't believe those same system's raw vote counts?

We have a fundamental problem with people altering reality by aligning facts to fit their conclusions when it should be the other way round.

We live in an age where the internet uses our past click activity to filter and deliver only news that confirms our biases. It's dangerous.

If you want to believe that climate change isn't a problem, and you click on 10 "news" items with headlines and sources that confirm your bias, an analytics engine managing your Google or Facebook feeds will detect that you tend to click on articles that deny climate change. Since they get paid to drive traffic, your news feed is changed to only show news items that confirm your bias.

To you, the "news" is filled with evidence that climate change isn't a problem. Before long, you can't even understand what the fuss is about. You assume it's everyone else that is failing to read the "news" and understand the "facts" as represented by your news feed.

Hillary Clinton raised $ 173 million for hedge fund and bankers, that same group only gave $ 19,000 to Trump.
