The city has announced that the Surfing Madonna will soon be removed and the creator fined. This should be the end of Stocks and Bond's political careers in this town - they are the Taliban of Encinitas (as someone else mentioned). These uptight mutants don't reflect the community mood nor do they acknowledge the collective wishes for the mural to remain. The "legal" and "religious" issues were non-existent covers for the power trip that these guys are on. Dump Houlihan, Gasper and Barth too if they've voted to remove it.
Don't forget the feeble attempt to attack the installation as compromising the "structural integrity" of the bridge as well....obviously THAT didn't fly. Hopefully these little antics will run Stocks and Bond out of town on a rail come November. BTW, I NEVER see people hovering around the other pieces of "Community Art" sanctioned by The City: the Little Girl bronze on 101 No. of Enc. Blvd (yawn) and the Tiki at Swamis (yawn, yawn)...The Kook is the ONLY City sanctioned artwork to receive ANY attention, and NOT because it is significant to anyone...it mocks City Administration and the out-of-town (out of touch?) Sculptor on a DAILY basis. Next they'll propose a replica of a former San Dieguito NFL placekicker to be installed at our new Special Use Park. Can't wait.
