I knew it had to be a Leucadian!
Mark Patterson's attorney
contacted the city after "Ark Patterson" was found written at the top of the mosaic by the city's hired art removal experts.
Thank you, Mark, for this wonderful gift to the city. Let's work for amnesty for both Mark and Mary.
UPDATE: Fox 5 interview with Mark Patterson
here. Seems like a really good, genuine guy.
I am Mark's attorney. I spoke today with the City's retained expert, Andrea Morse,
ReplyDeleteprinicipal conservator at Sculpture Conservation Studio, Inc., in Los Angeles who told me
she was writing her report to the City and making a recommendation that the
mosaic be covered with plywood until the process can be followed to make it
an official piece of public art. Mark appreciates your support. Mark gave an exclusive interview today (Wed.) to Loren Nancarrow at Fox News 5. The entire interview is supposed to be posted at http://www.fox5sandiego.com/news/
Anton Gerschler, Esq.
Here's hoping & praying the City sees its way clear to acknowledging & protecting this "gift" (and its creator). Thank you Mark for sharing your talent!
ReplyDeleteClearly Mr.Patterson has seen the $$$ in this "ART". With many in town already making $$$ off this "ART", Mr. Patterson has decided to claim his share of the pie. Look for key chains, handbags, posters, coffee cups, etc. I'm sure his attorney has copyrighted and trademarked this image. Can a booth at the Farmers market be far behind??
ReplyDeleteFollow the money!!! It's never been more true.
The Madonna is lovely, and I hope the City sees a way to approve her.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mark.
I, too, want to thank you Mark. I truly hope the City finds a way to grant you amnesty and for the Madonna to stay where she is. If it is not possible, I appreciate that you are willing to help move the piece with little or to damage to her. If you need extra money for attorneys fees, I would not be at all surprised if many Encinitan's, including me, stepped forward. You have created an incredible piece of art and we are lucky to have seen it, even if it is taken down. Please let those of us who want to help, how we might help?
ReplyDeleteDr. Lorri
If this publically admired and now nationally recognized art work is forciably removed, let it be the death toll of Jerome Stock's political career in Encinitas. His reticence to acknowledge the benefits that this exquisite piece has brought to the community reflects his myopic lack of awareness of the uniqueness of the community. It is appropriate that this mural is only a stones throw from the former Artists' Colony, now the hideous and undersold 'Lofts'. Stocks is a dictator with no flexibility - he needs to be thrown out at the next election. That goes for any other council member that has voted to remove this piece.
