  2. according to the Encinitas Fire Department during the Desert Rose Hearings the wind in Encinitas in the fire Corridor is only 9 mph-

right- guess the screwed that up as well. I hope all family, livestock and property is safe-

This is exactly what Desert Rose residents were concerened about

Shaffer, Barth, Kranz, Gaspar and Muir all sided against public safety at Desert Rose

    1. The closest the Encinitas Fire Department has been to a crisis is the barbegue flare up at Vons. It singed their lunch!

  3. During the harmon grove fire there where many families who realized it was time to escape only when flames were visible from their back doors.

  4. Good thing to bring up, should anyone feel like speaking tomorrow night during oral comms: how's that working out for the evacuees that the wind blows just 9-10 miles an hour on average per year?

Still remember the blank, nodding-in-agreement response from all five council members the night the fire marshal had the nerve to make that inane statement.

  5. Not to mention the folly of erecting a "Glass Wall" around the Desert Rose sub- division as a fire safety element, and the only thing Kristen Gaspar was questioning at that historic meeting was whether or not the wall "could be cleaned".

  6. Barth was a dumb ass for letting her serve as Mayor during the vote for Mayor. Barth gave Gaspar a sure in seat as Mayor. Way to go Barth. You sure don't use your head too much. Its a good thing your stepping down. 2 terms is long enough. And for Gaspar. One term is long enough!

  10. A six or eight foot high glass wall might be effective if a small fire starts near it. The embers that accompany a larger fire won't be deterred, particularly when driven by 40 mph winds as yesterday. In 2007 the winds in Rancho hit 70 mph gusts. Harmony Fire (1996) had 50 mph plus. Encinitas has a history of listening to local "experts" while ignoring advanced thinking and methods in use by others. Wake up, city council!

  11. SD asst fire chief Fennesy says he's never seen a fire like yesterday.....ahh news to chief, every fire is different.

Says, at mercy of Mother Nature...really?? Really?? Then why are we paying you and everyone else?? While he's saying this , TV news showing CIVILIANS fighting the fire.... Wtf??

Views media as " Partner" with fire dept.... No shit!!! Ed Lenderman says to chief " I don't want the give you a tough question... But??? In other words, fire depts can count on the news media to toss them soft ball questions now and always. Ahh , the pressitute

Chief Says better prepared than 2003, 2007....Well chief let me tell you something.... The public fucking hopes so. How many millions of dollars have been spent???

Watching any news coverage of any fire is a giant waste of time, don't both. My favorite fire quote goes back 20+ years when a LA county fire chief said and I quote " this was a really hot fire." Versus what chief?? A cold fire?? Cool fire??

    1. You're right - don't watch the fire coverage from TV since clearly you're not interested in doing anything about it. For me, TV, apps, twitter and texting was indispensable. But then, I was busy trailering horses out of the various evac zones to safer ground. Thanks for your on-the spot erudite analysis......

    2. Lay off the firefighters dude, this is when they earn the money, and they're earning it. No homes lost, thank god!

Find a little gratitude in your heart for god's sake..

  12. Did the fire start at one of the construction sites for a new housing development? That was the explanation in the beginning coverage of the fire.

  13. Chief says. He's worried about " the next fire". Imagine if your cardiologist told you... Gee, mrs Jones I'm worried about your next heart attack not the one you're have at this moment.
Fuck me, I can't take it anymore. What time does jerry springer come on TV ???

    1. I'm glad he's worried about the next fire - that's his job. I would also want my cardiologist worried about the next heart attack, because if I don't listen to him, it may very will happen!
      How was Jerry Springer?

Linderman tosses soft ball, chief says " excellent question ". Blah blah, weather is concern, blah blah. We are on high alert blah blah blah. Mutual aid blah blah blah .

    2. All the officials from each department were so busy complimenting themselves on how great they were all coordinated and worked so well together. It was getting to the point of sickening, so finally someone from the audience put them back on track and asked how many were evacuated. Those are the issues the public is concerned with; not all the babble about how well the departments work together. That's what you get paid to do dummies!

    1. Why do you want to twist what people say into a blanket statement?

There is something WRONG when a fire chief says, with a straight face, that Desert Rose resident concerns about Santa Ana winds are not valid because the "average" annual wind speed is low - do you not agree?? Who cooked up that one and how did he find it acceptable, not negligent, to make such a statement?

Stick to the points of the conversations and you won't look ridiculous.

    2. Its not hate. Its we hate there union for giving outrageous pensions to a relatively easy job that up to a few years ago was voluntary. The princesses work 2 days a week, sleep work out, watch movies in a $6 million dollar mcmansion for sleeping quarters for 3 on duty and then get 4 hours of OT to boot.

They rarely are in harms way. Not like a cop.

This thread has played out so many times when Leucadia Blog was a real blog.

As a result of the greedy union. Slobs like Muir the long list of other fire club chiefs all put in over $180,000 per year forever which is bankrupting City's and taking all the money so there is no money for any projects.

Plus they work so little most have second careers.

Its sickening. Everyone should be sooooo lucky to be a fire princess.

    3. we need to return to volunteer fire fighters- a core group about half the staff we now have and the rest made up of independent strong virile community minded men taking owenrship for their town-

Government has de-balled the american man, many think they are no longer worthy- notice how men are shown in may ads and tv shows today? Men - bumbling stumbling idiots their kids don't respect. How about that cell phone add with the woman going to work with the confidence and the man is holding a laundry hamper with his other deballed friend "Gor-Don'

We don't need the level of firefighters we have- even with today's events. Turn the american man lose, let us stand up for our towns and families - badges, we don't need no stinking badges

    4. You don't need permission to be a man, just do it. Lead don't follow. Start by making your home fire safe. Then show your neighbors.

    5. you are right - I don't- but society is now making many men feel exactly that - they need permission to be men

Lean in? How about stand up.

Sadly, you appear to have missed my point entirely.

    6. 10:52--- lean in?? Where do you get that from??

    7. I'm still a man, and I don't know need permission. Let's not start with the poor me I'm a man crap, take that somewhere else.

Making your house safe with a defensible area and the correct building materials is a smart move for man, woman or child. Leave the macho bullshit out of it, jesus, mary and joseph...
