10/21/15 City Council meeting open thread

The current city council has continued prior councils' practice of not providing written summary minutes of council discussion, but only "action minutes" which state the outcomes. Encinitas Undercover will provide a forum for observers to record what occurs at each council meeting.

Please use the comments to record your observations.

  2. Finally, a mature intelligent person running a meeting. Good job Catherine. You deserve to be our next mayor.

  3. Tony as the next mayor.

  4. I'll take Catherine any day over Tony. He sold us out to his developer friends and for that there is no excuse.

    1. Catherine sold us out for her own glorification of her ego- Trust Funds babies tend to do that.

    2. Catherine sold us out last night. No Catherine for Mayor or city council.

    3. Catherine digs deep into the issues and gets all the information before making informed decisions. She is our best bet for mayor by far.

    4. Blakespear voted against residents last night and for developers, Blakespear wants to promote the Shaffer/Barth doctrine that all residents should ride bikes before addressing financial restraint for why our roads suck.

Catherine had the gall to write a lie that city finances are in great shape when they suck

Catherine supported spending more city money needlessly while back door wink wink supporting raising fees on residents.

She is a politican- unsuccessful at most things in life and now empowered by her position. Trust fund babies who have life handed to them tend to be like that, as do former University Professors who have lived by telling others what to do and unsuccessful insurance agents who run for office.

      No thanks Catherine, disappointing.

"unsuccessful at most things in life"

I believe that's what shrinks call "psychological projection."

    No Catherine for Mayor.

    1. The GASbag can't run since she is running for County Supervisor. Good riddance to her. She loves developers.

    2. She can run if she comes in third in the June primary for Supervisor.

    3. All five of the council members love developers. They are selling out our city.

    4. EU she has already been bought and will end up strutting her stuff with the county. Even you should know that.

    5. If we want to grow our economy, there has to be more development. We are almost maxed out so no worries.

    6. "Grow our economy" here in Encinitas means collect fees and increase property tax revenues to pay for overblown and overpriced trophy projects and fund excessive pension costs.

"Economy" suggests we all benefit. The reality is that the City and developers just keep washing each others' hands while redudents stand around and watch the city as it's known and loved disappear.

  7. Tony will do ANYTHING for Leichtag as they create their 'little Jerusalem' with ocean views for all of their nefarious non-profits that will co-locate there on our 'agricultural zoned land in perpituity.' Good ol' former ADL director Jim Farley is one to watch...don't let his good ol' boy dress code and chuckle fool you - he's evil!

  9. Donna's most salient part was completely ignored, first by planning and staff and then by our council. Outrageous.

The square footage requirement for attached home lots was just cut in half last night, folks, and without prior public review.

How easy was that? Pretty darn slimy and no 'e' there.

The collusion was only too evident between Melia Homes, Planning, and lastly every one of the council members in attendance last night. The fix was in as it is much too often.

    1. Watch the replay of last night's meeting and weep for Encinitas. The same old shell game!
It is obvious the council had decided on their decision even before the appeal was presented last night. Note how Glenn Sabine sidestepped Council's question about the legality of splitting one legal sized lot in half with out the required setbacks. Half the lots are 0 setback, and yet they are
legal lots! WHAT!!!! Glenn's response was laughable and our egotistical council was not cognizant of the fact he hadn't even answered the question! They would/should have demand an answer out of him.
Sabine has to go as do all the inept, revenue loving, nonthinking, members of council and our developer loving $taff!
      Ahhhh Encinitas!

    2. If Encinitas is so bad, why are you living here? Move on if you are not happy. I would never live west of I-5. That seems to be where all the problems are.

    3. Sabine still around - he is like a persistent rash that can't be controlled. How is he able to continue to shake down this city????

    4. How did this sabine guy ever get hired? It is apparent he has some game going.

  10. The problem is most citizens are ignored when they are they appeal a decision. Cannot tell you how many times this has happened, even to Donna, who I greatly admire.

  12. Why can't our council members take their vacations after the last meeting of a month and return before the next scheduled council meeting? That is almost two weeks most of the time.

Their priorities need to be set straight, if they care, even a wit, about the city they supposedly serve. What a novel thought. There should be a standard attendance set for all of them. We shouldn't demand any less from every elected council member.

    1. Some council members have kids in school. Family vacation scheduling often revolves around the school calendar.

EUSD kids are out this week and next.

      Delete
    2. Since she was elected to serve, let the kids stay home and play. They don't need a lavish vacation. Her job as mayor comes first and foremost, but in GASpar's mind, she has already moved on. Doesn't care about the taxpayers who put her in office.

      Get used to it folks.

    3. She's dreaming that it is Supervisor Ga$par - and the voters are probably dumb enough to put her in office.

    4. I didn't vote for Gaspar, but to be fair, she rarely misses anything. Did Tony have to miss a meeting when he got the trip to Israel?

    5. 5:41,

So you never took time off work for a vacation when your kids were out of school?

      Hypocrite much?

    6. 9:19 I owned my own business. The taxpayers didn't pay me.

    7. GASpar can stay away the rest of her time. She brings nothing to this council except doodling. Tired of looking at her.
