Hit-and-run victim is mother Ashley Mullins Lane

NBC 7:
A mother struck by a hit-and-run driver while returning home from work Friday evening is fighting for her life.

Ashley Mullins, 33, was on her way to catch the coaster home from work at Lazy Acres in Encinitas around 7:30 p.m. when the crash happened.

San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies said a white Ford F-150 pickup hit Mullins as she was crossing Encinitas Boulevard, mid-block, near Vulcan.

The crash left the mother of two with serious injuries, her father Roger told NBC 7. Doctors gave her a "dire" prognosis. Mullins is at Scripps La Jolla Hospital's Intensive Care Unit with serious head, spine, pelvis and limb injuries, according to deputies.
Oddly, the sheriff's department doesn't seem to be getting a description of the suspect out to the public.

UPDATE: Man of average height in his 40's. White guy.

  1. What a tragic story. People should pray for her recovery. Irony is that the driver may not have been at fault initially, unless he was intoxicated or had something to hide. He is at fault now.
Regarding the Sheriff not broadcasting a description - that is odd. The driver must be trying to conceal the truck or repair it fast on the OT. He has neighbors somewhere - they might notice his behavior is "unusual" regarding non-use of the vehicle.

  2. She has suffered a stroke due to her injuries and her insurance coverage had lapsed. The US needs universal health care coverage - a person like this should not be limited to any sort of care due to a lack of resources.

    1. The lady killed at Balour last week was in the crosswalk.

This woman was reportedly crossing mid-block.

    2. The parents have been quoted as saying that their daughter was in a crosswalk. Mid-block could be the light at the entrance to the Lazy Acres shopping center. The Sheriff isn't giving the media many details on this incident.
There were apparently witnesses, which indicates it was close to a populated area - ie, the shopping center and Denny's restaurant.

    5. Somebody isn't getting this story straight. The cops should give details, in order to possibly bring in some information from witnesses. Near Vulcan and in the crosswalk at Vulcan are 2 different locations; I suppose that doesn't really matter now - the woman is critically injured regardless and the driver is laying low. He might even take a "vacation" and dump the truck out of the area. The vehicle is the smoking gun for him.

    6. I passed the scene and saw her in the street right after it happened. she was near the yellow line in the center of the street. she was about 40 feet before you get into the left turn lane to turn left on Vulcan. She was nowhere near a crosswalk.

  4. Suspect is a white male, estimated to be in his early 40's, driving a newer model Ford F-150 truck, painted white with the lower half painted grey.

    1. She is too busy concealing her illegal campaign contributions.

  6. This guy should get caught, given that he is a local. I suspect he is trying to conceal or change the appearance of the truck. More information needs to be put out in the general media.

  7. Isn't there a camera at that intersection?

    1. The only intersection cameras Encinitas has are on: El Camino and Luecadia, and El Camino and Encinitas. That's it.
(Unless they've installed anything new in the last couple of years.)

  9. The family thinks the woman was in an intersection crosswalk. A witness said she was midway up the street - there are no crosswalks there. The police have said nothing. The indications are that she attempted to cross Encinitas Blvd. where there are no pedestrian crossings marked.
    Pray for her recovery.

  10. I know this woman. We have several friends in common, including a 34 y/o guy by the name of Nick. He died on August 31st 2017. He had a stroke. Please pray for her and her kids. They need her.

  11. The cops have the license number and make and model of the truck. It is just a matter of time before the driver is apprehended. Had he stayed at the scene, it is likely he'd have faced no charges whatsoever. It was a tragic accident, before he fled - then it turned into a felony.
