    1. We already have bat shit crazy on council. We are trying to get rid of the bat shit. If you continue to vote for the idiots like we have now, you deserve to be called "bat shit crazy".

We need new leadership and Cameron and Graboi are the ones to vote for.

    2. Sorry guys, neither one is going to make it, and Sheila is perhaps the right person at the wrong time. I don't think the Sheila "act" would fly at this time. She barely made it through her term the last time. She's done some great things in the past, but the past is as they say, the past.

    3. WE are the ones who choose "who makes it." Blakespear and Kranz are aligned with Busby and Marco. I'm voting for the candidates endorsed by Bob Bonde, Pam Slater-Price, and Bill Butler.

Saved Cardiff from upzoning during the Cardiff Specific Plan hearing

      defeated attempt to raise taxes
defeated attempt to rezone ECKE land given in 'perpertutity'

    2. Mr. Bonde did not give himself that title. That was given to him by the residents of this city who appreciated all that he did to get us incorporated.

      Delete
    3. OMG, Mr. Bonde did all that by himself? His title should be changed to King. Maybe, he should run for council, unless his courage ran out!

  4. I respect Bob Bonde. His endorsement means plenty and I will cast my vote for both of them.

  5. 2:00-What the hell does that mean? I am surprised that Wc has even left it up. Since I have no idea who you are, I will assume you are a relative newcomer to Encinitas. If any of you do not know who Bob Bonde is, then I would strongly urge you to Google him before you tar and feather him. Without this man, and many others, we would look like the village of La Jolla. High rises in front of the ocean. Even Solana Beach has high rises in front of the ocean. We are fortunate to have many people who really do care about our community, and I, for one respect Bob Bonde and all of the hours of unpaid work he has volunteered to do for us. What have you done. And in this case, I have no trouble posting my name. Thank you Bob for all of your years of service to both our country, our students, and our community.

    1. For once, I agree with Dr. Lori. Usually I don't. I am also going to take Bob's advice, along with Maggie's widower, who urges us to vote for Cameron and Graboi.

    2. I don't get it! Maggie's widower endorses Cameron and Gradoi? I though Maggie endorsed Lisa Shaffer and Lisa endorsed Blakespear. Make up your mind already.

    3. 3:07-Long story. Maggie met Lisa at Morse Cancer center when she was being treated. So was Lisa Shaffer's husband. So, Lisa and Maggie began to talk. If anyone knows Lisa, she can be engaging when she wants to be. So at some point she asked Maggie if she would endorse her for City Council. Maggie was on many drugs to help with pain, nausea, etc. So, Maggie said yes, even though she really didn't know Shaffer all that well. As Maggie was getting even sicker, Lisa kept bugging her to make a video, (in case Maggie would be dead). Finally, Maggie agreed. Some friends dressed Maggie, did her hair and put her regular clothing on. It took everything Maggie had to do it, but Shaffer was relentless. Perhaps that is why Ian has no use for her?

    4. I agree with the notion to vote for Sheila and what Sheila represents. The problem is I can't vote for the current Sheila and what may happen were she to get on council.

Her last term was pretty contentious, including an F-bomb laden tirade at an event I attended to try and bring new Encinitas and Old Encinitas together. If this were 15 years closer to her last term, I could say maybe going here.

But with a last minute decision to run coupled with some uneven patterns in the last 10 years, I can't support her run this time. That and as Sheila would tell you, you have to start early and build the campaign, which she didn't do.

Sadly, I see this splitting the vote and putting Gaspar in the mayor's seat, the way Bob Naninga running putting guys like Dallager in office before.

I say dump Gaspar this time, and then go from there.

Nice trash talking from a person who hides behind a keyboard. When you grow a pair let us know who you are and your recrord of civic engagement. If you run into the cowardly lion out there ask for his courage, it's clear you have non while Cameron does

Vote for your liar Tony, keep telling yourself his values are not yours

I'll be voting for Cameron and Graboi - others should as well

    7. 4:08, if I wanted to trash talk, it would look and sound like trash talk. I tried to give a well rounded look into why I dissagree with Mr. Bonde. You obviously dissagree, as is your right.

I campaigned for Sheila in 2000 and worked with her on several other campaigns since. You're kind of proving my underlying point, which is that campaigns are nasty, and that one go round on the council is enough for anyone. There have never been any 2nd acts on the council, and a lot of Ist acts that never were (yup, Mike Andreen, Bob Naninga, Bruce Ehlers, Doug Long, come on down).

It just seems really unfeasible that Sheila would have a shot in this election, and that's if she started early. With the late start, it just doesn't look like a real possibility to me, and furthermore, I don't think she needs the aggravation.

Like I say, I get the notion, and it's laudable. Sheila is a standout in the history of our council, but time marches on, and now is not looking like the time.

As for vote splitting, you know my opinion. The key is for everyone to vote, you may dissagree, but at least ( I hope) we're all voting.

  6. Ian, Maggie's widower, has been making calls to support Sheila and Graboi. Since Shaffer was allegedly "Maggie's Choice" it is interesting, as I suspect eh knew her better than any of us. On his recommendation alone, I'm going to go with his suggestion. If Shaffer had been Maggie's choice, when she was not getting chemo and being so sick, perhaps I would have believed it. But, since Shaffer bullied Maggie into that video, longer story, I have to once again wonder, "how in the world did she teach ethics at a reputable university. Maybe I will make a call and find out.

Yes, that video Shaffer made was despicable, that she showed it at city hall is all tells all we need to know about her - she is me first.

I clued a couple of people on my street into Lil Lisa' story telling today- let's get the word out, door to door.

      Delete
    3. 4:02 - you ignore one fact- Maggie's widow wants nothing to do with Lisa- perhaps the story is true, or perhaps it is because Lisa turned out to be the opposite of Maggie

Where Maggie gave - Shaffer takes
Where Maggie listened - Shaffer ignores
Where Maggies told the truth- Shaffer tells untruths
Where Maggie led - Shaffer follows

You can debate the video- you can't deny Shaffer voting record, lies, and arrogance towards residents.

Shaffer is not only very much in the mix, she is very much the problem

    7. Facts are kind of loose and pliable when we're talking politics 5:46. You and I have agreed on much, but will have to differ on this one, probably mostly on strategic grounds.

If I thought Sheila was really up for it, and had a chance, she would have my vote. With that not being the case for me, I have to go Kranz to try and UNSEAT GASPAR while she has no safe seat.

I understand a lot of people's distate for Tony, but this is our chance for no more years of KG. Tony will have two more years no matter what.

Personally, I would be a lot more excited if an Audet or Graboi was running for mayor, but it's not in the cards....

With a month to go, we'll see what happens...

  8. It's great to do good work for your community. It's narcissistic to refer to yourself by a made up title.

If the honor was well-known, and bestowed by a formal public process, that would be different. It shows a lack of respect for the many others who have contributed to Encinitas. Notice it's not "a" father of Encinitas (one of many), but "the" father of Encinitas (me, me, me).

The ETA stopped the Ecke upzone and the inperpetutity lie, ETA also stopped the tax hike, ETA also ran Jerome 'Midnight' stocks out of town on a rail-

      The ETA has wrong numbers?

      So please share answers-

Why is the city $47 million behind in road repairs?
Why are city emergency response times worse?
Why did the council take $7 million from funded projects?
Why is the city $6M behind in building repairs?

    5. Just stop it with the feigned concern for Bob's reputation or age. I certainly have not said anything personally to attack Bob's age, past acomplishments or his service to the city.

I'll stand by what I said... The ETA is a sham organization. They don't do their due diligence regarding their website. If that's all Bob's information on that blog, he needs to update it often and not every two years when we havw an election.

Name one city in the US that doesn't defer some road and infrustructure.

Response times are slower because of gridlock traffic on the main arterials. I.E. More traffic = Slower response times.

The city moved money from incomplete and underfunded projects to get a park built that has taken nearly 30 years to build!

Get over it already. Some of you are so anti-change that nothing will ever get done or move forward.

Out of touch is what I said and I stand by that declaration.

  15. Lisa and her council mates let slimey vina spend a quarter million bucks and counting on outside hires recently because they allow him to do this on his own without their say so.

As each individual consultants fee is under $100,000 vina has no oversight by the council. When Sheila was there the most the city manager was allowed to spend without councils permission was $10,000

We need this to be brought back and now. Stop this madness!

Julie and Sheila will do just that. Does anyone honestly think Tony or Kristen or Catherine will reign in vina?

  16. We need to either get this council in line and take charge as they are supposed to be, or we need to vote them out of office.

We need a council that will stand up to this city manager who has run wild with our money, squandering it on outside consultants. We need some one on council who actually cares where our money is being spent. The city manager should not be given carte blanche as has been the practice the last several years.

Cameron and Graboi are not afraid of this city manager and will do what needs to be done to get us on track again.

The train has derailed with the leadership of Barth, Shaffer, Kranz, Muir and Gaspar. They have lost their way and can't find their way back.

His numbers were made up BS which he did not explain in detail, he couldn't come up with a single town in the USA that had tested his theories, there is no public safety org anywhere that backs his staffing idea, and he didn't miss any opportunity to make snide jokes about our FD.

He came off as someone who didn't know the subject, and that's why his idea has gone nowhere.

      Delete
    2. 6:00 am- is that you Mark Muir? Yes, Bob schooled you that night and you had no response, not surprising as teh FD under your leadership failed to improve response timesa but did succeed in getting pay and pension increases

6:00 - you list not a single numerical fact- Bonde list 45 minutes of facts, backed by the lack of performance and expense of the FD

      Delete
    3. Bonde used the FD's own stats. 1.78% of calls involve fires or explosions, and most of those are minor.

Muir was busted and he knew it, so he had to attack Bonde.

    4. Okay, here's one from memory:

Muir asked about the following predictable scenario:

Under Bob's plan, we would withdraw from the county ambulance service unilaterally (which is not legal, but never mind that for now). Currently, the ambulance service handles transport to La Jolla (most patients don't end up at Scripps Encinitas). So our FD would become responsible for lengthy transport. Muir asked Bob what happens when a crew is in La Jolla in an ambulance when a fire call comes in. Bob's answer was send an engine from another station.

      Right.

How's that going to affect response times?

    5. 12:56 Ok Muir, it looks like you are still trying to make yourself look smart. You come off as a real dumb ass because you are.

You couldn't save a fly if you tried big boy.

  23. Slightly changing subjects - Perhaps Alan Lerchbacker is a ringer. His treasurer is Nancy Haley who also handles Kristin Gapar's reporting. Lerchbacker loaned himself $20,000. Interesting that one of his contributors also contributed $1,500 to defeat Prop A the right to vote initiative.

    1. Yes, a ringer. How unfortunate for him that reporting oftentimes tells the real story.

    2. So he is there to siphon off votes! Gaspar's campaign managers are definitely crafty - they are pulling out all the tricks to get Bimbo Barbie elected.

  24. MJG: so it doesn't get lost above where you posted, Cameron filed campaign papers the same day Kranz did. Perhaps you were just late getting the news?

One less thing for you to hold against her. Still voting for lying Tony? You happen to see flashes of that anger of his? He let it show at the first candidates' forum. He's been belligerent with folks who dare disagree with him...his head got big from riding Shaffer's coattails into election, he will be even more insufferable if elected mayor.

    1. 4:28,

      What's your point?

Are you suggesting that pulling papers to run is step one in a campaign?

Because it's not. A good campaign starts months before the formal declaration.

      Delete
    2. My point is she didn't enter late, which is what MJG seemed to hold against her. I am not suggesting anything else, but thanks for trying to put words in my mouth.

    3. Tony's an incumbent, and word had leaked out for months that he would run. There's a big difference between Tony, who has run several times in recent years and Sheila, who was last in office in 2000.

I have given my reasoning for voting Tony, the main one being that this our chance to oust Gaspar, who is not running from a safe seat. Tony will be back even if he loses this round for mayor.

There's a post above about Pam Slater's involvement in Sheila's campaign, so you can mull that over as well. Sounds possible, but again, to me this is a classic Bob Naninga vote split that puts Gaspar back in.

    4. Anyone see Kranx's tiny signs next to Blakespear's big signs- how emasculating. Word is Tony lives on land his mother in law bought and Blakespear lives on land her Mom owns-

There are only 2 candidates in the race with the balls to take on Vina. Tony's are the size of his signs.

I'm voting for Cameron and Graboi

      Delete
    5. You get points for using and spelling emasculating, but those are wiped out by personal low blows. So what if they live on that land, I'd live on my parents land if they had it in this town, and so would you....

Did Councilman Kranz help you fight the density bonus developments in your neighborhoods?
If Kranz had put up some kind of resistance, Leucadia neighborhoods might have seen a different in the number of houses on a density bonus lot. Please don't make excuses for Kranz. He threw you and the neighborhoods under the bus.

  28. I still think some of you are missing the important fact that if Kranz gets elected Mayor there will be an open Council seat. Who do you think they will fill it with? I say Barth, but others may think differently. If they were a class act, they would fill it with either Graboi, if Blakespear wins, or vice versa. Anyone want to place a small bet on it. I would bet if Julie won, they would give it to Blakespear if she came in under Julie. However, if Blakespear won, do you think the Council would extend the same courtesy to Graboi?

I get out of town plenty. Just saying this town is crowded enough. I would love it if 20% of the residents moved out of Encinitas. Less people in the water, on the roads, less water use, less pollution and more serenity. Nothing personal. I just don't like the polluted City vibe. To each her own.

We are just about all built out here. The only way to keep building it seems is by "stack and pack" which Gaspar and the rest of this council seem to be in favor of.

Gaspar's developer friends are reading and waiting for this election to be over so they can get building.

    1. Agree 100% with 8:18. Why would we want to change what is viewed as perfect by people who live here and people who want to visit? Let's not become another Orange County city. Let's keep the soul of Encinitas alive and honor the vision of our founders.

      Delete
    2. And honor the vision of current residents! Poll after poll results say leave it alone. Only the city and monied pressures are scheming for change.

    3. By degrading our quality of life for the benefit of those who want to monetize Encinitas, we are increasing the stress level on everyone who lives here. What happened to our laid-back, friendly Encinitas? We have business people dictating to council that they can't make it in business or make a building project pencil out unless the City gets rid of laws that protect citizens. Maybe they simply don't have good businesses to start with and are expecting for the rest of us to pick up the tab! Maybe they are the ones who should move, and we are the ones who should protect our standards.
