Orpheus Park trees appear to have survived arborcide attack

Orpheus Park has a long history of tree lovers battling with neighbors who want unobstructed views.

A year or so ago, someone tried to kill some trees in Orpheus Park by cutting rings through the bark.

Fortunately, the trees seem to have survived the attack for now. No word on whether the likely suspects have been warned or visited by the cops.

  1. Most likely the city is responsible. I remember them cutting down the wrong tree at the roadside park. They caught their mistake and then removed the correct tree.
Lost trees in park 2- responsible person at city 0

    1. SOP, no one at the city is ever held accountable.

    2. Leucadia Blog sucked! It was irrelevant long before it crashed and burned. Heavily censored and mainly an ad for the operator's business - good riddance.

    3. And with Keith Harrison as JP's landlord...'nuff said. Let's leave it at "heavily censored." (Harrison owns millions in "infill opportunities" along the 1.)

  3. What happened to this site? Here is some news to discuss from around town...

    4. Also, sand dunes in Cardiff. Waste of money? Do they stand a chance? The science says yes but one good storm will undo it all.

  4. 6:54pm The city had nothing to do with this, other than to do everything they could to save these trees.

Anyone that goes there and sees who would benefit the most by these trees coming down and which views would be enhanced with these healthy specimens demise, it all becomes clear.

We can all hope that the publicity of this dastardly act will prevent something like this from ever happening again. The specific culprits got away away with it this time and fortunately the trees survived.

The selfish mindset that would do such a thing to expand a view is beyond any decent persons grasp. That there are, or were certain condo residents that thought this up and acted on it, well, we can hope that they were short term renters and not owners.

    1. Your posting does not change the facts that the city cut down the wrong tree, then cut down the correct tree. The park lost two trees, city staff lost.... no one.

  5. 10:48pm That is not the issue with the current thread and the attempt to kill certain view blocking trees at Orpheus Park.

The trees that were removed years ago by the parks dept. was all in the name of enhancing certain condo views was a separate travesty.

The negative publicity that action by the city generated has forever, hopefully, served to be never repeated.

Last winters attack to kill three or four trees by some person or persons has focused the city and caring locals to watch over these shade giving and carbon sequestration gifts of mother nature to protect them all the more.

When those trees were cut down by the city a few years ago, different city employees were in charge. Most of them are gone now and good riddance. What was allowed would never fly with the current managers we have in place. Progress sometimes takes a failure to ensure a better future, and we have that now with the heads of the Park and Rec Dept. overseers. Peace out.

    1. P and R dept overseers?? The same ones that killed the Cali poppies at the roadside park and then planted flowers that have died from lack of water?? Those overseers?? You give too much credit to a failed city and staff that continues and has always found a way to grasp failure from the hands of victory.
