If we voters( and we should) are going to vote on this issue, shouldn't we vote on all the issues facing the city?? Dump the council, let the voters decide all issues.
There were plenty of sappy emotional appeals made by both sides. In the end, the voters will resoundingly vote to ban cultivation and businesses. It is one thing to vote for the abstract idea of people being able to smoke it for recreational purposes (Prop 64), it is quite another thing to have a commercial growing operation in your neighborhood. Voters will see this very differently than they says Prop. 64. Don't underestimate the hypocrisy of NIMBYism.
Sure, you can make it sound like NIMBYism. However, this is no different than wanting a car, electricity, and lumber, and not wanting a steel mill, auto factory, power plant, or lumber mill near my house. There are plenty of products that we use that we don't want produced in our neighborhoods. This is an upscale beach town, not a farming community. Could someone who wants cultivation here explain why they prefer it here, and not in a rural area?
Pot has been used in this town for decades with minimal problems. Hell, we used to have "religious ceremonies" in the loft of the La Paloma over 40 years ago during surf films. The god fearing parents of their genius children should be more concerned with booze and pills but I guess 100 years of B.S. propaganda have taken a toll on your brains. In the last ten years I have known of several drug interventions in this town. Virtually all of them were for over 70 females who were addicted to pills with nice corporate logos on them. Shall we ban drug stores while we are at it?.
Yup, I said we may want things that we don't want produced here.
The child protection argument does not hold water. Good parenting is the best way to protect kids from whatever it is that parents don't want.
As far as products getting here. I suggest getting into a car, and driving to where the product is available. Though, I'm good with delivery and 4-5 shops.
Muir uncovered that there is no money for the city. The product will be shipped outside of Encinitas and the point of sale will be somewhere else, which is where the sales tax money will go. Encinitas will just have more expense. Bad deal for Encinitas. Grow it in a rural area.
I'm still laughing at Cheech and Chong. Absolutely perfect for last night's City Council meeting. Gotta give it to you W.c. Tip of the hat my friend, whoever you are:)
It sure ain't W.C. he's long since retired and anyone that doesn't pick up on the new guy's prose all the way back to last winter is an unfaithful reader. The new guy does seem to have a real job though and kudos to him for balancing such a tough schedule.
The BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT of the night was JOE MOSCA. He turned against BOTH sides and said that he couldn't make a decision. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! What were people thinking when they voted for this tool!
Specifically, why do you find him smart, refreshing, and great for the future? That is about a generic campaign endorsement there is. Are you Joe? Are you practicing for the grade school election? encinitas voters are much too sophisticated for grade school politics.
1:22 You must be Joe. Answered like a true career politician, or should i say not answered.
Encinitas has a habit of appointing other cities trash to further their corrupt developers agenda. Joe won’t be the first carpetbagger run out of town, and won’t be the last. Hiring internet marketing companies that post on your behalf does not work either, they get destroyed on this blog.
Prop A was voted into place to protect ourselves from developer whores. This is the wrong town for Joe, which he would have known had he done his homework. He just saw the developer money flowing and wanted in on the hustle. Just look through the Sierra Madre blogs to get an idea who he is and why he was run out of that town. Here is a start...https://sierramadretattler.blogspot.com/2010/04/is-sierra-madre-cumquat-era-back.html
4:23 If you're so hot and know everything, why don't you run for council? You seem to contribute nothing except negativity. I have to laugh at people like you. HA! HA! HA! C'mon hot shot. Show us your stuff.
Still can’t give a specific reason why Joe should be elected uh? You can deflect onto me all you want but the facts remain. Mosca is part of the problem, not the solution.
Telling me to run? Are you serious? Joe was appointed without ever even paying an Encinitas tax bill. Now, if I was a developers whore maybe someone would just appoint me. Also, I prefer to contribute to society, leaching off tax payers and special interest sounds miserable.
It's 44 acres. It was Robert Hall who demolished the greenhouses and sold off what was valuable after he sold the land to the city. The city paid to clean up the mess afterward.
Apologies on the acreage. We paid Bob 1$ per truss and cut them out and reassembled them in S. Morro Hills(Oceanside)where they still stand today barely. Replacing them this year.
The city didn't do its due diligence before buying the Hall property. The city should have made Robert Hall financially responsible for cleanup of the demolished greenhouses and the soil contamination.
It was a real sweetheart deal for Hall and cost the city millions of dollars. Even today we don't know the final cost to build the park. Thirty-year bonds plus interest to buy the land and then build the park are a big part of that. Estimates are $80+ million. First bonds get paid off in 2031.
9:44- Because Mr. Hall asked the city if they wanted to purchase the land. At the time, the City Council consisted of Jim BOnd, Jerome Stocks, and some others I can't remember. Jim and Jerome wanted a legacy project, and the Hall property was made into a park It costs us more to keep the park up and running than a lot of other things in this city. The soccer people were convinced they could get 90 foot lighting into the park so the kids could play at night. A group was formed to help the City pay for a lot of things. Of course, like most things, that group disappeared. And 90 foot lights cannot get by the Coastal Commission. It was a stupid move, in my opinion, and cost us a great deal of money, and still does. That is where the extra houses we need could have been built.
In the meantime Prop. A was passed. It requires a public vote to approve anything over 30 ft. This includes lights. It's the reason lights at Leo Mullen park were planned to be 30 ft.
Others on the council were Dan Dalager, Maggie Houlihan, and Christie Guerin. Dennis Holtz voted to buy the land, but was replaced by Dalager in 2002. Guerin was replaced by Teresa Barth in 2006. It was Stocks, Bond, and Dalager who held the majority and pushed the park.
Robert Hall was going out of business. The land was zoned R-3 residential. The council could have upzoned and put dense apartments there. This was proposed at one time for half the property as costs for the park ran out of control. Now such a move would require a public vote.
I agree - parks and open space are good if the city can afford - not so sure about the $4M Krantz lifeguard tower at Moonlight. I would also prefer open space or mcmansions over pot farms (so we don't become Humboldt Lite). Blakespear should go back to Del Mar where she came from - ruin Del Mar, not Encinitas.
Not only are we voting on Cultivation, but we are now voting on Cultivation AND Manufacturing. Nice of Dope Smoking Krantz and Blakespear to slip that one in. Storefronts will be next... This is just the tip of the iceberg.
D Street stairs, 7-11, the train station parking lot, Cottonwood Creek park, Encinitas Library, etc., all places I've seen junkies nodding out and tweekers bouncing off th' walls. Close them down, too, while yer at it.
Foreigners and drifters flood the State during the pot harvest season - they are hired as trimmers. They often hang out in public places or live in their vehicles, as they are essentially a transient group. The Chinese get H1B visas for bringing in commerce that employs people. They probably bankroll the dope operations.
The blog owner is too busy working his real job to put any fresh content up. Did W.C. Varones (not his real name) sell it to this guy and is this guys tied to Leichtag?
Blakespear - take it to the voters.
ReplyDeleteA delaying tactic - it'll pass, as the legalization issue did overwhelmingly.
ReplyDeleteIt wont pass - Look at Measure F
DeleteMuir was afraid secondary smoke would give him the munchies.

I'm fine with that. At lease we wouldn't need to listen to Blakespear - she sure impresses someone when she talks ad nauseam - HERSELF!
DeleteI for one, cannot wait for the Reefer-Madness mavens to begin their hysteria about what else.....the children! Pure stand up comedy.

DeleteWait a minute.
DeleteDid you just say we may want things, but don’t want them produced here?
But I thought saying no to cultivation would mean our children would safe from cannabis?
Can you explain to me how a product produced outside the borders of our town might magically appear here?
Pot has been used in this town for decades with minimal problems. Hell, we used to have "religious ceremonies" in the loft of the La Paloma over 40 years ago during surf films. NIMBY stands for Nazis In My Butt, Yo. That's why 12:38 says it so much.
DeleteCultivation????? Seems like I remember something about Encinitas being "The Flower Capital Of The World". I guess that leaves out Sinsemilla
DeleteEvery bit of acreage under cultivation is another acre that is not converted to McMansions. That alone is worth it.
DeleteFollow the money!! It's all about have a ca$h crop to feed increasing city coffers to pay salaries and pensions.
ReplyDeleteMuir uncovered that there is no money for the city. The product will be shipped outside of Encinitas and the point of sale will be somewhere else, which is where the sales tax money will go. Encinitas will just have more expense. Bad deal for Encinitas. Grow it in a rural area.
Delete9:10 What expense?
Delete11:33, we’re going to need to add 2 fire stations, a fireboat, and a pension increase if we allow cultivation.
DeleteAdditional expense:

ReplyDeleteThe BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT of the night was JOE MOSCA. He turned against BOTH sides and said that he couldn't make a decision. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! What were people thinking when they voted for this tool!
ReplyDeleteJoe Mosca was appointed to the council by the mayor's recommendation. The people did not vote for him. Get your facts straight.
DeleteHe is NOT a disappointment. I find him refreshing, a smart thinker and I think he has a great future in this city.
Joe is against pot agriculture, but he is also in favor of putting the question on the ballot. With Joe you get it all. Both the wishy and the washy.

He’s going to be re-elected, because he’s doing a good job. Deal with it.
DeleteJoe would need to elected first. You cannot be re-elected without having first been elected.
DeleteJoe was installed for two reasons: he's like-minded with Tasha and he follows orders from Catherine.
DeleteI think that Tasha and the Mayor tell him how to vote! If that's the case, I agree with 5:23, he's a tool!
ReplyDeleteI agree, Mosca did buckle under pressure. At least Muir doesn't put up with Blakespear's antics.
DeleteI'm glad we'll get to vote. I feel that's the truest assessment of what the voters want and need.
ReplyDeleteIf the city of Encinitas was so dead set on keeping ag alive why did they turn 62 acres of greenhouses they owned into a community park?

It's another failure in a long line of city failures.
DeleteI prefer the park to more mcmansions. Remember when Encinitas used to be the "Flower Capital and Surf Center?" Now we're becoming Orange County Lite.
