4/22/20 City Council meeting open thread

Please use the comments to record your observations.

Apparently we missed some action at last week's meeting when council watchers believe the council was caught trying to commit a Brown Act violation regarding the homeless parking lot.

  2. An impressive display from candidates Julie Thunder and Susan Turney that again exemplified their lack of critical thinking, common sense and reading comprehension in one fell swoop. Doubling down by claiming that their accusatory and conspiratorial emails were why what was never going to happen, didn't happen, was the icing on the cake.

    1. What are you talking about, 6:14? Neither Thunder nor Turney have been heard from yet.

Whoops don't look now, but your city worker badge is showing. What information do you have on Turney and Thunder that the rest of us don't??

    3. They are probably talking about the Brown Act violation at the top of this article. There was a lot of discussion last meeting.

  3. Not surprising that their supporters also struggle with basic reading skills. Champions of the dimwitted unite!

  4. So if memory serves the city attorney admitted to the Brown Act violation and the violating item magically vanished from the agenda.

Sounds like two watchful residents caught the five stooges red handed, no conspiracy theories there.

Threatened by those two much, 6:14 & 7:55?

  7. So fucked! Our shitty Mayor who lead the closing of the beach and the County dumb asses listening to a retarded pretend Phd. from Scripss order the closing of the SD coast. The rest of CA coast has smarter leaders and remains Open.

Fire all the leaders involved. The SD County Health is lacking any real knowledge or leadership in this situation.

    Our Mayor Sucks!!!

  8. There was Community Spread confirmed going on back in January.

All you dumb-asses staying at home and this whole self imposed Depression is for not. The virus was out in all of CA back in December and January timeframe. I know my family and a ton of people I know had flu systems back in the new year timeframe.

Open the beach and all businesses. This is all for nothing!!!!

Heads should roll for this bad call for not following common sense.

Our Mayor is the worst of the bunch and she need to resign.

  9. We, the Encinitas Voters, expect nothing short of a full apology from our City Council for creating this huge nightmare for the Encinitas citizens and business by their bad decisions. Their bad decisions caused economic devastation, public health and trust destruction, and lost opportunities to hundreds of thousands of world citizens. We will expect nothing less then the Mayor's resignation within two weeks.

    1. You do realize that she'll be reelected this fall. She took over 80% of the vote in 2018. You and your viewpoints represent a small fraction of this city. You think there are more like you because you are yelling into an internet echo chamber. Don't mistake being loud with being in the majority.

    2. I think the only sporting challenge for Blakespear is whether she can beat her record of 85%.

      I’m dead serious.

The actions of this splinter minority bring in in people like Roger Ogden has splintered the splinter.

And no, derp derp, I’m not 9:22.

    3. Think about 2018's opposition to Blakespear. 9:22 embarrasses himself by joining her in advertising that figure.

She has real competition this time and word from her campaign is she is worried. Wishing something is so doesn't mean it will come true.

Blakespear and her band of Kool-Aid drinkers are in for a reality check. And if she does somehow prevail, it ain't gonna be by 80%.

    4. True Dat.. 15% voted for her competition which was a little dog from Riverside.

Personally, I think anyone running against blakespear including the last little dog that ran would beat her next election. Thunder will pound that brainless talkalot.

  11. Mayor Blakespear is now making her own laws on when the public can pull items off the consent calendar and have staff read the staff report. The Mayor and rest of council use the consent calendar to prevent any discussion on their spending hundreds of thousands of dollars without any open discussion. The only way to get a discussion is to request that the consent item be "pulled" and then it becomes a regular agenda item. The Mayor, council, and city manager have been hiding behind the consent calendar to prevent the public from knowing the truth behind city spending. Last night the Mayor made up her own law about the consent calendar. A person cannot pull a consent item so that it becomes a regular agenda item unless they make a comment. Apparently, the public must justify the reason for pulling the consent item. Dictatorship is alive and well with Blakespear and her other council patsies.

  12. Mayor and city attorney with sheep-for-councilmembers caught AGAIN with hands in the Brown Act violation cookie jar.

No vote taken on the MOU thanks to two diligent residents warning the mayor and city attorney, both of whom know better.

  13. Attention all Ctiizens of Encinitas!

Stay in doors. We will be giving you free THC and bread everyday at noon at a location that will be posted on Blakespear's facebook page.

You must stay indoors, because that is what you are being told. Stay indoors or you will be shot. Repeat Stay in doors.

Do NOT be distracted by what all other coastal counties around the State are doing or the World, Mayor Blakespear DEMANDS that you stay indoors.

The virus is much much more infectious in the surf zone in San Diego water than the Orange County Water and that is why you must not go to the beach and stay in doors. A really really smart Phd said so.

It doesn't matter that no surfers contracted Corona in the surf zone, they could have and we will not take any chances - Again Stay In Doors.

we will reassess the conditions once we feel like it, but you must Stay Indoors.

Attention Citizens - if you are found in violation of not watching enough airtime about covid 19, we will reduce your rations.

Attention Citizens - Stay In Side for your own safety! By order of Mayor Blakespear

    Attention Citizens!
