WARNING - ANOTHER BIKE CRASH This is the 3rd crash in a week on S. Coast Hwy 101 between Cardiff & Solana Beach due to the new segmented curbing. To me and others who saw this, it looked like this poor guy hit the curb – not a car – similar to the other crashes. This dangerous project is costing Encinitas taxpayers over $800,000 and many cyclists warned the City about this when they voted it in. These “so-called” safety improvements were not necessary and very few of our residents wanted them - except Mayor Blakespear, our City Council Members, and our state Assembly representative. This segment of road is no longer safe for road cyclists. Sadly, now we can expect more accidents and injuries which will result in more lawsuits against Encinitas. Please ride and drive slowly and be on alert in that area! Julie Thunder, Candidate for Mayor of Encinitas.
Does somebody have to die?
Heard one of the injuries already lawyered up. Mayor and council silent - "nothing to report."
ReplyDeleteThese pet bicycle projects of Blakespear's are going to do us in.
Remove one of the vehicle lanes in each direction, then mark off one lane for motor vehicles, one lane for bicycles, and one lane for pedestrians. Put in a guard rail separating cars and bikes. It's not rocket science, but a high school level knowledge of physics helps.
ReplyDeleteIt's rocket science for blakespear and her "professional staff."
Delete"Stop the bleeding??"
DeleteBlakespear is a taxpayer's $$$ hemorrhage.
DeleteThe real problem of today is not the Coronavirus.
ReplyDeleteIt is and will be seen as a problem with the virility of much greater orders of magnitude.
That virus?

I told people that would listen about the parking type stops install. Yesterday I did a drive by...what a CLUSTER. I imagine the parking type stops are when a storm churns up the ocean at high tide and comes across the road. This way the water can dissipate thru the openings. But, this is a huge problem for folks on foot and bicycles. In "the biz" we call it a tripping hazard and make no mistake, this is one big tripping hazard. And to boot, the newly poured surface and the parking type stops are the same color. Soooo, here is the result. In general people have no sense and the "tripping hazard" is a mess. This is just the beginning. More injuries on the way, all in the name of safety. This was a bad idea gone wrong and it will cost a bundle to fix it. But hey, this is simply my opinion. Ignore my decades of experience.
ReplyDeleteYet another typical bad decision led by Blakespear- the list keeps growing and costing Encinitas $$$millions. Soooo many needless injuries and lawsuit payouts coming..... sigh.
ReplyDeleteSo many people told her this was a bad plan and provided good plans to follow. But as we know, she does not listen to anyone. Dictator tendencies and even worse than Jerome Stocks IMHO.

You're leaving out "Favors at the Bank" Dan Dallager....
ReplyDeleteI saw the curb stops for the first time this morning. I have been riding competitively for 30 years and have never seen something so stupid. Yes someone is going to get seriously hurt or worse. This is all on Blakespear again!!!!! She is ruining our city.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. Besides the danger and injury to us citizens. There is also the massive costs of lawsuits for all the liability for this fiasco.
DeleteBlakespear is either super stupid or hate Enciinitas which is it?
As a former competitive cyclist who has ridden that section for more 27 years I was stunned when I saw the "safety" project and immediately emailed the city that it was a huge mistake. Not surprised that there have been several accidents in just the last week. That section had always been one of the safest parts of PCH but now is the most dangerous.
ReplyDeleteToday is Sunday. I just got back from coming down the 101. These brain clowns on bicycles are NOT using the bike lane in Cardiff. They are in the road, blocking traffic as they ride. Maybe if a few of them get hit and killed (which I couldn't care less) they will wake up. What a bunch of brain dead morons. They are always a problem.
ReplyDeleteThat’s like asking why you’re driving on the freeway when there’s a perfectly good frontage road adjacent to it. That “bike lane” is for kids and beach cruisers, not for anyone trying to ride more than a mile or two. That’s why there are Bikes May Use Full Lane signs. That’s why sharrows are coming.
ReplyDeleteHere’s a tip: change lanes to pass. It’s not that hard.
