Beaches, exercise trails may reopen soon

Coast News:
Later this week, Blakespear said the Coastal Rail Trail along Highway 101 will reopen to the public with additional signage enforcing social distancing and personal protective equipment, such as face masks.

“Closing the trail was a reset,” Blakespear told The Coast News. “There was too much crowding. We wanted people to reestablish their habits near their home, in their neighborhoods and to not drive to their daily walk.”

Blakespear continued, outlining a proposed three-phase process to open access to the ocean, beaches and parking lots — in that order — in the coming weeks.

“I want to open it as soon as possible.” Blakespear said. “It seems to me the risk of [contracting COVID] is the lowest in the ocean because people are, by nature, 6 feet apart. It’s completely reasonable for people to safely get back in the water.”

County officials are responsible for the health order which closed public access to beaches until April 30, not individual coastal cities.

Kim Prather, discoverer of the Surfing Coronavirus, could not be reached for comment.

  2. Love the link to the Prather story EU.

Been tracking her online communications ever since she put out the screed that surfing is dangerous and you will contract the evil covid from surfing in the waters or ocean spray from watching the waves crash against the rock and most certainly be a deathly hazard to your neighbor.

She's backtracked so predictably from her irresponsible claims it's nothing less than comical.
She now claims what she said was taken out of context by the reporter and she in no way claimed the things she actually did in fact claim just weeks ago.

She is just another shameful hysteria merchant "scientist" that talks out of both sides of her mouth much like the mayor.

One thing that has shown itself over this particular crisis is so many of these folks that call themselves "scientists" while having the degree or education or whatever you want to call it they think it gives them a license to be arrogant and certain of their baseless claims.

They are certain alright. Certainly wrong.

I've personally witnessed these "scientist" types showing behaviors that would shock people and the very next minute call out their neighbors for not doing the very same or worse.

    Cull the herd man!

  5. Well, that was quick. The mayor finally closed her "wildly popular, but I won't walk on it" rail trail due to heavy resident pressure, only to open it a week later.

The mayor is all over the place and residents are paying the price.

    1. Instead of listening to the voters in the first place, she listens to the developers and her "professional staff" or makes decisions based on what she thinks will make her look good. Like Trump, she is out of step with the little people so reacts wildly one way or another.

    2. Every mayor we've had listens to staff and developers. Don't expect any major changes, ever.

    3. It is a first that an Encinitas mayor sues the citizens and insults them on an ongoing basis. Some mayors like Barth disrespected citizens one at a time, but we have never had a mayor sue residents of the city before.

  6. Opening on a Friday is stupid. Out-of-towners will flood the area over the weekend and things will be closed down again. Better to open on a Monday.

  7. 101 seems to be open already. Barriers have been pushed aside and a few people are walking in the ped trail.
