Put the Surfing Madonna at the library!

... an excellent suggestion from Logan Jenkins.

The only obstacle is council egos. Jerome Stocks and Jim Bond are the reason the Madonna was removed from its intended location at the gateway to Moonlight Beach. Jerome Stocks' and Jim Bond's egos are the reason the library may be denied this beautiful gift.

  1. Another interesting situation. The land still belongs to the County. Does the County also have to vote on placing the Madonna there?

  2. Only the south half of the library property belongs to the county. The city leases this very cheaply. (A dollar a year?) The city owns the the north half. It used to be the San Dieguito Water District office and work yard. The city paid the water district about half of what it was worth. Now the water district pays the city for use of facilities annually. When the district moved into the Mossy property, it paid a hefty one-time fee to the city. The ratepayers in the district got fleeced by the city.

The city could place the Surfing Madonna in the library. It built and has control of the building. But it's very unlikely to happen unless Jerome has a vision and undergoes a miraculous conversion.

  4. Surfy Surfy,

You have done great things for this community, and if the Encinitas Taliban reject the library option, you are my second choice.
