Council opposes Right to Vote

Patch:
The Encinitas City Council voted Tuesday to order a special election for the "Right to Vote" amendment to the Encinitas General Plan and Zoning Code.

In addition, the council created a subcommittee—consisting of Mayor Teresa Barth and Councilwoman Kristin Gaspar—to write the ballot's argument against the initiative.

  1. Have you ever heard the term. Developers are Liars and don't really care about the community, they only care about making profit?

Whelp, we've heard the lies, are hearing the lies, and will continue to hear the lies from the Lying developers.

Developers will do ANyTHING for more profit. Including 4 or 5 stories, or pay off future council members, or lie to the neighborhood or at public meetings.

As long as the profits are to be had, Developers can not be trusted.

    Vote yes on the initiative.

    1. As a former developer I am offended by your comments. I never lied to anyone but was lied to by the city of encinitas on many occasions. The planning dept was and is full of idiots and aholes and liars.

    2. Up..... your moving your lip. Hence the Developer was Lying!

How do I know? All developers lie as soon as they begin to speak. Its like saying its raining and H20 droplets falling from the sky. Its self evident fact.

    3. Developers: please don't think the initiative proponents lump you into one bad bucket. We've had developers sign who said they knew exactly the damage the developer community could do with a willing Council, which is why they wanted resident self-determination. They live in Encinitas for a reason and that reason is not to see every parcel "pencil out" to the max. We've had developers carry the petition.

It's the few who give the others a really, really bad name....

    4. Let me re-state: it's the majority who give the few a really, really bad name.

  2. Although, I REALLY didn't like the outcome of last nights meeting. I was REALLY impressed how well our new council worked together; asking good questions, finding common ground and working together for the best interest of the community.

I hate to say this in light of last nights outcome. But, this is probably the most balance and intelligent council team the city has elected in some time.

I still don't like their decision, but understand their position.

  4. Those that are complaining about the new council are probably the same one's that talk me into voting for Tony Kranz and Lisa Shaffer.

    Please explain what happened?

  5. I think you would be hard-pressed to blame this on the new counsel. This began because of 12 years of one party majority who often voted against the recommendations of the planning commission.
The new counsel I believe is handling this in the correct manner in vetting all the issues and letting the citizens vote.
This is an unpleasant byproduct of the past counsel and the current Council is doing what they need to do.

    1. Blame? What blame? The council made a decision to oppose the residents right to vote. There is no blame. If the council can get the initiative defeated, they will have their super majority vote to litter Encinitas with taller buildings and increased density under the excuse of the state made us do it. Those are the facts, plain and simple.

    2. Yep. Suckered.

  6. There is a definite threat that the council will try with all its power to stop the right to vote initiative.

  7. The Right to Vote Initiative, although important for how our city looks in the future, is much more important for how it would keep outside interest developer money from owning our City Council. These interests have run our city (much like San Diego) for the last 15 plus years. When major changes to our General Plan have to go to the voter for approval it will be much less likely for these interests to flood our small city with cash at every election.

Mike Andreen has already got both palms up to his developer friends to lie and attack the Right-to-Vote Initiative. If only the people that believe his solid waste new the source they might be surprised. If Right-to-Vote passes Mike will disappear from our elections!
