Candidates filed

Del Mar Times:
Three incumbents and three challengers will vye for a trio of seats on the Encinitas city council this November.

In Encinitas, voters will be able to select their choice for the mayor, as well as districts three and four, if they live within one of those area’s boundaries. District three represents Cardiff, while district four encompasses areas of Olivenhain and New Encinitas.

The six candidates are:

Mayor:

* Incumbent Catherine Blakespear, a 42-year-old lawyer
* John Paul Elliott, a 71-year-old metaphysical broker

District three:

* Incumbent Mark Muir, a 62-year-old retired fire chief
* Jody Hubbard, a 61-year-old Encinitas planning commissioner

District four:

* Incumbent Joe Mosca, a 45-year-old manager of major projects at San Diego Gas & Electric
* Tony Brandenburg, a 56[?]-year-old retired chief judge
We've never heard of John Paul Elliott, don't know what a metaphysical broker is, and assume he won't run a serious campaign.

Hubbard is the Barth-Shaffer candidate for Cardiff.

Tony Brandenburg is an Olivenhain institution, but didn't do well when he ran for council in 2016 before district elections were established. We shall see.

  1. I'm not sure of Tony's exact age but I am sure he's older, probably a lot older, than 56 which should not be used against him as he would be a great councilman.

  2. WTF is a "Metaphysical Broker"? Is it a euphemism for New Age whackjob?

    1. 10:17 No, it's the definition of a whack job..BUT I might vote for him anyway just because.

    2. John Paul Elliott understands Love and Thought ...something that is missing in the current candidate's. You should call him and see why you need to vote for his platform.951 781 6900

  6. VOTE them all OUT!! Then those that win, vote them out also.
The COE is a preschool, nothing serious to learn nor teach.
May as well give them Playdoh and let them make prehistoric animals. Worthless turds.

  8. Mayor Blakespear's continued bleating on avoiding lawsuits is false. For her, she will spend as much money as it takes to stop residents when they get in her way. Streetscape is a $30 million dollar debt project that has been forced on the taxpayers of Encinitas. Residents have filed suit against the city. Sabine has been told to fight the lawsuit. Vote her out of office.

  9. 2pm How convenient for you that you can continue to ignore the fact that the current majority is responsible for much of the latest strife.

They all deserve to be voted out, but Tony, Mark, and Joe should lead the way and resign. We are stuck with these three for the time being. Jodi has little chance and deservedly so with who she chose to be her backers.

Catherine has an opponent, but I doubt his 'out there' persona can overcome the challenge.

Tony Brandenberg should give spineless Joe a run. At least he came forward to give their district a viable choice. If I was able to vote in that district. he would get my vote. I am so tired of Joe and his trying to quantify his position which amounts to nothing but pandering to a vocal minority. Good riddance Joe.

    1. I love that! "Spineless Joe" - He hasn't even lived in Encinitas for more than about 3 or 4 years. He never had to spend a penny to run, nor break a sweat to walk neighborhoods, instead pandered to Blakespeare and Tasha and Kranz secretly to get their promise of appointment vote. Only Mark Muir was outspoken in saying at that joke of an appointment meeting that, "Tony Brandenburg had over 11,000 votes in the election" whereas Joe Mosca was a newcomer to Encinitas, had a recall vote put out on him in his Sierra Madre city council stint, and just doesn't have any life time in Olivenhain or Encinitas to have a clue what "community character he is supposed to be preserving"
