City of Encinitas Posts Shark Activity Notices

Due to recent reports of shark sightings and activity in the North San Diego County region and out of caution for safety, the City of Encinitas today posted advisory signs for "Shark Activity" on all public beach access points to advise beachgoers to use caution when swimming. The shark sightings and activity have been away from swimmers and have thus far been deemed non-aggressive. Despite the heightened vigilance, Encinitas beaches will remain open.

Encinitas lifeguards are on heightened awareness and they are following the California Marine Safety Chiefs Association Shark Sighting and Incident Response Guidelines. In addition to the posted signage, Encinitas lifeguards will be closely monitoring for shark activity.

  1. Encinitas lifeguards are more predatory than the sharks. Have already avoided the beach for years because of them.

  2. The Carlsbad LifeGuards are worse.

Pretty much chip on their shoulder assholes treating the public whop pays their salary like total shit.

If I was king I would lower their pay and create a merit based pay and pension system....

The current guards would make $3/HR and get burnt toast for retirement.

Complete sonic grade A level douchnozzles.

The future is not bright for these pea armed barneys.

  5. Life guard. Zen Guard.

Real life - sit in a tower and watch people in swim suites.

There is no difference in fatalities between guarded beach and unguarded beaches.

  6. Life Guards= Waste of Tax Payers Money.

No value. Expect a fun summer job. This is coming from someone who is at the beach every day with kids.

  7. I rescued a man drowning near Swami's while surfing there and you would do the same if you heard someone screaming. The lifeguards were out of site of the incident. The guy that almost drowned was specifically trying to be out of sight from the lifeguards since he was an underage drinker. Get rid of this bloated salary union and let us police our own as we always have!

  8. amen to that. Lifeguards have no value. More Gov waste.

    they have no value.

  9. most everyone that is actually drowning is saved by locals or themselves.

    the lifeguards do nothing.

  10. What's next genius'? You hate Firefighters as well? How about the Sheriff? You hate them?
And, for the person that claims to take their kids to the beach everyday? If I were your kid I'd "rather drown" than be parented by you.

  13. The truth is the lifeguards and Sheriff Dept. don't just ogle women on the beach..they stalk them on and off the beach. They also employ confidential informants (i.e. junkies and ex-cons) to antagonize and entrap innocent citizens. This is why many of the "homeless" people that neighbors are complaining about on nextdoor.com are never arrested or 5150'd for things like trespassing on private property, threatening to kill people at a restaurant on 101 and threatening to harm children. They are paid provocateurs working for city hall and the Sheriff dept...one "homeless" young man who had been antagonizing people on 101 and the beach for 2 years suddenly "left town" according to the Sheriff Dept. after too many complaints came in about him as the result of a nextdoor post.

  14. Look lets not disrespect they cops as they are underpaid for sure. Lifeguards not so much. Let's give the local lifeguards a stint on the NS of Oahu for a season and if they make the cut they can have a raise.

    It's just that simple.

  15. Cops are the real deal. Fire princesses cake job.

Lifeguards- Haaa.... useless. Give all their pay and retirement to the cops. They actually earn it.

  16. The next time a fireman assists you after a car accident, a lifeguard saves your child from a rip current, or a paramedic brings you back after a heart attack you may be grateful. Imagine what these people see and go through at a day on the job. Are you grateful now?

  17. "a lifeguard saves your child from a rip current," Ha, Ha, Haaaaa - good one.

Reality- Unguarded beaches have no higher rate of fatalities than guarded beaches. But who needs or cares about facts.

  19. I am a single mother with no criminal history who has been continuously stalked and harassed by first responders for years. You would think they were too busy working on solving real crimes, but when I file a police report, they don't even investigate anything.
