Modern Times shuts down

Very sad.

Sandiegoville:
Modern Times' Far West Lounge in Encinitas has permanently closed, marking another major setback for the once-sprawling San Diego craft beer brand as questions now surround the future of its remaining local hospitality projects, including downtown's Timestead, Flavordome tasting room and the planned Cathedral of Caffeination coffee concept in North Park.

The Encinitas closure comes after Modern Times initially told customers the North County venue would be taking what it described as a brief "pre-summer sabbatical" on June 8 and 9 for maintenance, calibration, and "the occasional ceremonial tightening of a mysterious bolt." Days later, the company posted that the Far West Lounge would remain closed until further notice due to unspecified "licensing difficulties."

Now, according to Wes Van De Vort, CEO of Wings & Arrow and current owner of Modern Times Beer, the Encinitas closure is permanent.

"The hospitality group that is licensing the Modern Times name has made a decision to walk away from both Far West Lounge and Flavordome in North Park," Van De Vort told SanDiegoVille. "Wings & Arrow has decided to take over the North Park location, but could not come to an agreement to take over Far West. I do not know their plans with that location moving forward."

  1. *** City of Encinitas real time news***

This is great news and a step against Bruce Ehlers’s efforts to make Encinitas PB Norte.

The freak show, including our own wolf and sheep’s clothing, is on their way out.

3/5 of them were removed in the last election. Then, The Arizona developer who has quit and embarrassment and humiliation from taking bribes from her developer masters, will not even run in the next election. Ed is a shoe in.

And the remaining weak ass Bruce Ehlers has been outed for being on the BIAspear team. He did it to himself. Three biggest horrible actions against Encinitas include in priority order:

    1. The worst pick for city manager, putting in a BIASpear insider.

    2. Supporting the past and the current staff building exercise to put even more full-time employees on the payrolls and increase the pensions in perpetuity. Thereby having very little money for a huge deferred maintenance, traffic cops, and needed projects like the quiet zone that were implemented in San Diego Solana Beach Oceanside, all the cities in Orange County including San Clemente. Why the hell is Encinitas always last?

    3. He’s been supporting the drug addict losers destroying Encinitas by supporting such disgusting magnets as a CRC.

If there’s a good candidate for a Mayer next election, maybe we could get five good council members.

If not, we’ll get four good council members with Ed coming on board and hopefully Bruce will come to his senses, or his family will step in since he seems to be slipping.

Then we can get five good council members and Encinitas will really be on the road to recovery.

The truth is simple and the path is clear.

Bruce Ehlers or his family needs to make him step down. Sorry Unc Ehlers.

This is Bigger than you. This is abou:

    Encinitas Surf town🌊❤️
    Not Ehlers/Blakespear BIG 💩TOWN

    1. Spot on.

This below text in today’s SDUT sounds a whole lot like the City of Encinitas:

A less-publicized factor in San Diego’s financial troubles is a sharp increase during the last decade in payouts to settle lawsuits against the city and skyrocketing insurance premiums caused by those hefty payouts.

Payouts nearly doubled between fiscal years 2018 and 2026, rising from $24.8 million to $48.9 million. And the city’s annual insurance premiums have nearly quadrupled over that time, from $9.8 million to $35.4 million.

Premiums would have risen even higher if city officials hadn’t agreed to twice increase the city’s deductible, from $3 million to $5 million in 2022 and then up to $7.5 million last year.

Spending so much more on payouts and insurance takes away dollars that could be spent on other priorities, such as law enforcement, firefighting, libraries and parks.

City officials say a key part of the problem is San Diego’s crumbling infrastructure, most of which is past the end of its useful life because it was built in the 1960s and 1970s and expected to last about 50 years.

That has led to more payouts to people injured by broken sidewalks or uneven pavement, and more payouts to the owners of property damaged by overflows from decaying sewer pipes and flood control channels.

Ehlers has failed us. We need a real mayor that can pick a good city manager

      Truth.

      God bless our Surf town
Stop Ehlers destruction and trying to implement PB Norte, and a big drug town

Every single comment above is brought to you by a mentally challenged person called the repeater, who enjoys saying Encinitas is San Diego, when it's clearly not.

  6. No one in our city's council history could hold a candle to Kranz advocating for guests buying full fifths of alcohol onsite to party at the denied Portofino project. Nopers "real time fake news," learn your history so you can quit embarrassing yourself. PB North was Kranz's baby: https://encinitasundercover.blogspot.com/2015/07/barth-on-downtown-bar-problems.html

"One year and at least one dead girl after failing to persuade her colleague Tony Kranz to vote with her to rein in the worst excesses of the downtown bars, former council member Teresa Barth writes in the Coast News: The Encinitas bar scene has been causing trouble for some time."

  7. "The vote last year was 3-2, with Barth and Shaffer voting for the DAO, and Kranz, Muir, and Gaspar voting against it. Instead, the council created another full-time, pensioned code enforcement position, which isn't even on duty most late nights and weekends!"

  8. Why aren't Gaspar and Muir named as well, why because the repeater has a grudge against someone else.....

  10. How about Marco Gonzalez “representing” all the bar owners against any kind of restrictions? He called it the “Encinitas hospitality Association,” hilarious name..
