With respect to the JFS plan to continue the parking lot at the Senior Center, the last time they appeared at council it was with a request for taxpayer's money. They apparently didn't qualify for all of the funds needed to run the program and asked for the council to put in $260.000 of taxpayer funds to support this project that many people didn't ever want. I am glad that this lot has been removed form the Senior Center because it made some vulnerable people feel uncomfortable to go to this public space.
JFS bait and switch. They originally claimed that this project would be free to Encinitas taxpayers. Bruce and the other voted to give partial funding but JFS rejected the offer to continue their parking lot program. Placing the homeless in beds is a higher standard of care than making them live in a parking lot, so I think that our council made the actual compassionate decision.
Maybe $500,000 is not a lot for this organization since it might cover the salary cost of one or two of their top executives. For Encinitas taxpayers, many of whom objected to this project in the first place, it represents a big expenditure for project that many people never wanted in the first place.
