Department improvements under Mayor Bruce Ehlers and the new director of Development Services, Scott Drapkin, tightened up processes to address violations faster, collect back taxes (some dating to 2022) and track progress through regular oversight reviews. Incredibly, this was not the case in past years.
In contrast, mayoral candidate Rimga Viskanta appears to advocate for a subjective approach to code enforcement. She recently told some Cardiff residents that while at the City of Solana Beach, she helped a business owner treat a late filing as on time to avoid penalties. Viskanta justified it by describing the applicant as “a feeble, elderly woman.” She deflected blame by saying her manager approved her request to bend the code, even though she initially pled the case.
Going by her description of the feeble, elderly woman, Viskanta presumably would not extend the same discretion to an able, young man. In fact, not granting the same exception to all applicants in the same situation would violate their due process. She should know this.

ReplyDeleteI'm curious about MAGA Marco's political ad featuring Bruce. In it, Ehlers states that he and the 3 stooges have established a majority that they just can't lose. A majority of what exactly?

Or is it majority MAGA/Republican? That sounds like the most reasonable answer, because they have completely failed at doing anything about development and will continue to fail (although that doesn't stop them from attempting to scare voters into supporting them) and they'd probably prefer not to discuss what else possibly makes Bruce & the stooges a majority.
That's a whole lotta bobbing and weaving in sad attempt to deflect from Rimga's scary approach to code enforcement. Isn't she connected to the Riggs people? She going to personally review every code violation for a sympathy/friend pass?

ReplyDeleteThey intend to ship out our homeless problem first to National City, but ultimately to Sunbreak Ranch-- or one of the 37 internment camps proposed by Steve Hilton and friends. This council supports Flock cameras, ICE and rounding up residents whether they are simply homeless or here illegally. It's so easy to simply declare our less fortunate unhoused as illegal too, then they can be captured and shipped out -- Don't love your neighbors is the MAGA motto.

DeleteWe have a shit council, and Marco is among the shittiest (although not too much worse than Luke and Jim, all 3 suck). The main reasons I hope Marco gets the boot is:
Delete-Total bullshit appointee who Bruce lied about over and over.
-Olivenhain power grab. No one wants the place to burn down, but it shouldn't constantly be placed above every other serious concern in the city because Bruce and Marco live there.
-Zero qualifications or relevant experience.
-Lied during appointment.
-Refused to shut the fuck up and go away when his undeserved appointment was up.
-Supports masked armed thugs terrorizing families he grew up with.
-MAGA piece of shit
-Is totally unprepared for basically everything. I wonder if he even glances at the agenda before a council meeting.

DeleteThis is the problem with your current system, all the appointments when someone runs for mayor and wins. Go back to the rotating mayor, with the rotation locked in, then we won't have people being appointed. On one side, no thanks to Joe Mosca, on the other no thanks to Marco.

DeleteBruce had the historical and logical understanding to NOT appoint a MAGA idiot. He had good alternatives who largely supported his agenda, at least the agenda he shared with the public.
