The current city council has continued prior councils' practice of not providing written summary minutes of council discussion, but only "action minutes" which state the outcomes. Encinitas Undercover will provide a forum for observers to record what occurs at each council meeting.
Please use the comments to record your observations.
Item of interest: the re-launch of Joe Mosca's political career.
New DEMA replacement fir Do-dy says Encinitas is "at a crossroads of growth" and she's here to help.
ReplyDeleteLeichtag guy sees "amazing revenue-generating opportunities.". He should know.
ReplyDeleteSend Dalakranz on another expense paid junket and get that favorable vote from him - they all have their price...
DeleteDalakranz is just like his Pappy Dalablabber- What a flopper!!
ReplyDeleteKranz, like his 'mentor' Barth, is just not capable: shame on we voters.
DeleteSheriff confirms its a regional park…. to back the 20,000 Encinitas tax payers pays for all all the contraction and maintenance costs. Taxpayers screwed again!!
ReplyDeleteVote out incumbents.
Yawn.
DeleteNot a regional park. Have you been there yet?
I have to agree. Seems the biggest users of the park are the dog folks. No regulation fields, unreasonably tight dugouts, no lights.....yup, a dog park!
Delete- The Sculpin
Some one forgot the duct tape for Muir. "As it relates to" continues to be as stupid as the man looks.
ReplyDelete"Tried and tested"'....what a joke!
DeleteBuuuuuurp!
Go Blakespear! First time I actually like what she is offering, fight this density nonsense and housing element can wait! Wake up council, you have someone with a brain on board.
ReplyDeleteHot air discovery! Main source comes from the Muir geyser.
ReplyDeleteWhen is Muir going to get a longer microphone so he can be heard without turning the volume up or him and then having to turn it down for all the other council members? He just cannot get close enough. Maybe a curve could be cut out of his desk so he could squeeze up to his microphone. I volunteer to cut it out for him but a longer microphone is the easiest solution.
ReplyDeleteOops Blakespear lets out the differences between CA and council.
ReplyDeleteTony Kranz, please don't cave in on the required safety equipment for the skateboarders at the Hall Park. The skater who showed up to represent all his buddies couldn't have been more wrong about requiring safety gear for the skaters. I implore him to consider all the younger skateboarders who naturally look up to you older experienced skaters and set a better example for all those up and coming riders. Think beyond yourself and consider all those coming up and set the best example you can for them.
ReplyDeleteOther issues such as skaters using the roadway is not permitted. If he is representing the users of this new skate park, he should be happy to impress upon them the importance following the few rules that are included with the use of this skate park.
Now to the smoking issue at this new skate park. This skater mentioned someone had put up a receptacle for all the cig butts and he complained that it was removed by the city. Well, no kidding guy. All of our parks and beaches are designated non smoking zones and you darn well know it. His response was that he sees people smoking all the time at parks and beaches. That is his justification for not impressing upon his fellow skaters to not smoke there. That does and will not fly. Is the risk of losing this wonderful skate park not worth a little effort to tell his buddies to please respect the gift they have been given by all of us the taxpayers.
He chose to show up tonight and good for him. Now show some responsibility and monitor your buddies behavior if you care about the gift you have been given.
Skating in the roadway ithat borders the skate area s not permitted and yet is all too common. You have the power to make a good impression on your friends to stay within the rules that comes with using the new skatepark. Own it or lose it.
Stop Jeff Murphy from sending the preliminary maps to HCD next week. There is no reason for those maps to go to HCD.
ReplyDeleteTony Kranz. PLEASE, Do not cave in on the required use of safety equipment for skaters at the new Hall Park skatepark. The skater who showed up to represent the users needs to show some responsibility for everyone, but especially all the younger up and coming skaters who naturally look up to you to set a good example. Think beyond yourself. You may find helmets unnecessary because you have achieved a level of competence where the risk of injury is reduced. There are many there that don't have the abilities you have. This is common sense and for you to discount the need for helmets is selfish and irresponsible for all those coming up.
ReplyDeleteYou also have the opportunity to impress upon your fellow skaters to skate within the skateboard section and not in the adjacent roadway which is not permitted. Set the example and step up.
You mentioned someone had created a cig butt container that the city had removed. Well guy, no sheet. Smoking is not permitted in any of our parks and beaches. Please impress upon your buddies to not smoke within the confines of the gift you have been given. There shouldn't be a need for any kind of butt container if you and your friends have any respect for the skate park that all of us taxpayers have given to you. Step up.
The power to set a good example is within you since you are the one who chose to appear before the council tonight. If the few simple and posted rules cannot be observed, is it really worth losing this fine gift the city has given to you? Now show some appreciation and help others to show they appreciate this gift. Step up dude.
Enshrine the epitome of non-motivation - the adult skater smoking during the work day at a park! Knarly!
DeleteConcerning the Council's hour and a half discussion at the end of the meeting, they can sure use a lot of words as a smokescreen to hide the influence of their developer friends. Someone there is destined for higher office, could even get into Congress and really accomplish nothing!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, you could hardly see the strings being pulled. Please. If you're so transfixed with the council simply doing the developers bidding then you need to run for council to break the developers hold as the one true independent voice.
DeleteHuh? Developer influence is hardly a news flash. Where have you been?
DeleteWC, let's withhold judgement on Joe Mosca until we have something to go on, other than a blogger from small town Sierra Madre who lost out in some city elections. We shouldn't be going off of sour grapes, let's see how he feels about the issues, if and when he decides to run for council.
ReplyDelete-MGJ
Joe Mosca on how to deal with annoying seniors -
Deletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJHhzjwX9ww
MGJ is apparently blind and tone deaf. There are videos of Mosca's official interactions and his standard modus operundi on YouTube. "Sour grapes"?? More like the smoking gun! It's like saying "let's see if the cobra really bites"....
DeleteMGJ : I hope that you and Joe are not affiliated in any way. Forgive me for being wary, but I've seen my share of out of town hacks come here (or sent here) to promote a particular agenda that is always money based.
DeleteNope, I merely say give the guy a chance. I've lived in SD county for 30 years. Judge him by his actions, not heresay and the fallout from a different town. I can't prejudge people in the way a lot of people on here seem to be comfortable doing.
DeleteDo a little research and/or let the guy put forth his ideas before you torpedo him. If you are aware of some certain positions or things he's done that you can back up with links, everyone on here would love the info.
It's easy to slam a guy when it's anonymous online. We just had the election, and he's not running for council. If he wants to be on Parks and Rec, he deserved a fair shake...
1:14 and 3:38, what are the context of the links? Without context on the discussion, there's not a lot of relevancy. Even Maggie got pissed at speakers occasionally. If we're going to play the "He's an out of town Carpet bagger" game just because he's moved a few times, count me out.
DeleteAnd if this is the guy from the SM Tattler, concentrate on your own town...
-MGJ
We are concentrating on our own town: what on earth makes you think Mosca's spots have changed between SM and here? We don't need more of what he did up there and folks are rightfully concerned.
DeleteJust as a speaker referred to Solana Beach's high-marks city manager, some have turned to SM's opinion of Mosca. Putting blinders on may work in your rainbow-teddy bear world, MGJ, but in the real one folks have a right to question motives, more so in Encinitas than most places. We have a terrible track record of appointing, hiring, and promoting some of the most self-serving people you can find. Oh, and electing them, too.
2:59,
DeletePlease provide a list of the declared policies or specific votes that "he did up there" that have you so upset.
I watched the YouTube videos, which are all posted by one person, and it's not clear to me what the hubbub is about.
I see people ranting at the dais, and him defending himself. But without knowing the underlying facts, it's not possible to draw conclusions about which side is being unreasonable.
To MGJ:
DeleteGo to the Sierra Madre Tattler and read through the relevant articles in the archive. WC has it linked. You'll find all the details you could wish for.
You need a better source. The guy from the Tattler has too much skin in that game. He's a former candidate for SM city council. He's not exactly a neutral party. It's like a former poster on this board bitching about the streetscape without admitting that they live near one of the potential roundabouts. I'm not buying it. The guy gets a chance. I'm not ruling him out based on one crank's blog posts.
DeleteI think this is kosher since he's a public figure. WC check me if you disagree.
Deletehttp://www.pasadenastarnews.com/government-and-politics/20140218/revealing-photos-of-sierra-madre-city-council-candidate-surface
-MGJ
And what I'm asking for is no more than your HS English Teacher would ask for, ie state your case with backup. If Joe Mosca is so bad, site the instances where you feel he screwed up and back up your theory with facts. Otherwise it's all innuendo.
DeleteIt's all been presented here, 10:37. Perhaps you just don't trust your eyes and ears. I know a Council member or two who have the same problem.
DeleteSo we got rid of a shitty City Manager. Lets cut some staff that are not needed so that more projects can be built.
ReplyDeleteA person's past behavior is most often quite telling about the character of the person. I don't see this person being any different in Encinitas than he was in SM.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Vina is sending him our way.
Sounds like a witchhunt to me. I've seen worse behavior from our longtime council people like Stocks, Bonds, Sheila, even Maggie. And those excerpts are all heavily edited and without context.
DeleteI'm giving the guy a chance, the rest of you can bad mouth someone you don't know if you like...
Everyone wants change - until it arrives.......
Delete11:22 - while your statement is technically accurate, I really don't know what kind of conclusions you can draw from a series of YouTube's strung together to make a point. Keep in mind that video is very difficult to use in court as a "smoking gun". It is not uncommon for a jury of your peers to look at video and come to a vastly different conclusion than the conclusions drawn by the general public. That's because the jury has been presented with all relevant context given by adversarial representatives in order to make a more informed decision. I have no clue who Mosca is, but I'll hear him out. My first question is the relative importance of maintaining equestrian trials.
- The Sculpin
Sculpin, Since when do we prosecute horses?
Delete12:37 I never referred to watching the You Tube video. I was commenting on past behavior alone. That usually is more telling than any video.
DeleteI'm for giving the guy a chance as well, but don't be surprised when what we suspect here will turn out to be true.
Right, but don't you have to question why you suspect something, in this case gossip and innuendo from an unverified and biased source. It's like watching Nancy Grace, where where she declares all defendants "guilty".
DeleteI say don't try the guy in the media, go meet the guy, ask him about his experience in SM if you like, but don't convict him on a series of edited Youtube Videos.
You owe yourself more than that.....
-MGJ
If people are talking about this man, there has to be something to it. Period. It doesn't matter if it is a few people or 100 people. Apparently, he did something that got attention.
DeleteI bet if we dig a little deeper, we will find much more. I'll start investigating myself and keep you tuned in.
12:37 If you never heard of this guy, why are you commenting? Do your research first, and then make your comments Mr. Know It All.
DeleteMGJ, if none of the comments or tone you heard in the videos put you on notice, then so be it. Some of us don't need to be hit over the head to get it...having observed your comments for some time now, you take a lot longer than most, if ever, to call a spade a spade.
DeleteAgain, I've listened to them and it's all been noted. Let me turn the tables and ask you, what is your pre-disposition to dislike this guy? Based on the fact that he's allegedly pro development? As for his tone, it just isn't nearly as bad as Stocks, but like I say, I've seen the canons fire from every single council member, from Gaspar to Chuck Duvivier. Even Maggie.
DeleteI grew up in that area, I know Sierra Madre, I have a little more background than most people here. They don't like outsiders there, period. Mosca was an outsider. He has a clean slate with me, but like you, I'll be watching his words and deeds, as I would anyone else.
I just don't believe in slandering someone while hiding behind a pen name like a lot of the people on here. Geez, the guy isn't even running for council yet. Must be slow season on the blog...
I will continue to post on the blog, but I refuse to be a hater...
Delete-MGJ
And not a word on this blog about the Coast news story about the Encinitas life guards harassing the sea lions. I guess you people don't care about our aquatic neighbors.
ReplyDelete1:23 - Agreed My bad - I read your comment too literally..."I don't see this person being.....".
ReplyDelete1:15 - I read somewhere (here?) that we was looking for a seat at Parks & Rec. As they oversee the trail network, I'm interested in his views on horse trails.
- The Sculpin
2:43 PM
DeleteStart worrying about more traffic on the trails. Lennar 112 acres development connects into the trails in Olivenhain.
I'm not sure any of that will be horse property, but who knows? I have yet to see anything that fully describes what they're putting in there - have you? Beautiful views, though. Besides, I'm not worried - they're aren't too many users of the trails back here so what's a few more that won't get up off the couch and have a look around......
Delete- The Sculpin
Sculp, you really truly need a nasty developer to move in next door to you and upzone the hell out of it. You really do.
DeleteEquestrian trails are used by walkers also. If one has such an asset in their neighborhood, it is a definite asset to protect. Why does Sculpin see them as some sort of liability? Probably a pro-concrete advocate.
ReplyDeleteI think The Sculpin owns horses. In any case, how you came to the conclusion that he is a pro-concrete advocate is beyond me.
Delete9:01 AM Quote: "The relative importance of maintaining equestrian trails"
ReplyDeleteHow do you interpret that?
7:42 & 9:28 - let me be clear. To me, the relative importance of equestrian trails is very high. I use them frequently, as do many others, and I would like them respected. Some of these trails run along sewer easements that cut through peoples property. It's not uncommon to have a new owner try and block access through the trail in order to "reclaim" their property. I'm all for property rights, but I am also all for respecting the easements that come with your property. These trails also provide access outside the city. One of my favorite rides is up to the various water towers and the Olivenhain dam. It would be really tough to do without those trails. In addition, the City has made it easy for riders outside of Encinitas to trailer their horses here and enjoy our trails. The City's commitment to trails throughout, and Olivenhain specifically are a special and unique asset. It represents a good chunk of our overall property values.
Delete- The Sculpin
New property owners cannot reclaim an easement that has a precedence of public use. You opinion is legitimate - this is a public benefit and needs to be maintained and respected.
DeleteThe John Upton murder in Olivenhain was over reclaiming an easement.
DeleteHad this been decided by the courts, which way would it have gone? Easements are created over certain periods of time, when the property owner doesn't legally enforce their rights. At issue here would have been how long this "access road" had been in use by the adjacent property inhabitants.
DeleteThe best neighbor is no neighbor.
Vilkin might have been exonerated had he said "Are you feeling lucky, punk?"
DeleteAm I correct in thinking that upton did not own the property he lived at? There's no way I go at it with some nutjob over a place I don't own. A total waste of a human life. Too bad they couldn't get a mediator...
Deletespeaking of easements...
