Drunk driver’s car hit by train at E Street

Patch:
A southbound Amtrak Train was traveling approximately 80 miles per hour when the train operator observed a vehicle stopped in the middle of the track. The train went into emergency braking but was unable to stop in time and collided with the car, the Sheriff's Department said.

The driver of the vehicle was safely removed from the vehicle by deputies on scene and arrested for suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.
UPDATE: Driver is Angel Milan-Sanchez, 21, of National City.

  1. The article mentioned "E" street near 101. There are just too many places along 101 for people to get drunk. Sadly the drunk is still alive and so can have another round. At least he got arrested. Perhaps he should have been stopped from driving by the bartender or the night patrol.

  2. Just another case for the vibrancy that has been allowed to prosper in our downtown.

Too bad for our community that this sell out continues unabated along the 101.

Those who have been here long enough know what has been lost.

Relying on bars to cut off their money sources will never work.

If serving establishments could be forced to monitor every drinkers intake and apply it, maybe some accidents could be prevented. That ain't about to happen as long as the income these morphed bars are allowed to carry on they do.

These patrons can simply move on to the next bar, if they are cut off. I doubt any bars cut anybody off, but the too many options allow those willing to walk a short way down the block.

Party on, in party town. Try to be safe out there tonight.

  3. I know lets ban alcohol and legalize marijuana.

  4. 1:30pm No one but you has suggested banning alcohol which makes you qualified to be a a troll.

There was no mention of interjecting the cannabis issue into the serving degradation that has become all too common along the 101.

You seek to create division and divert attention, as any troll like you does.

Any aware person can see this for themselves. You are not fooling anyone who chooses to pay attention.

The DAO must be having some affect and it is long overdue. I am sure you will have a money generating evening downtown tonight. Enjoy.

The shame is that most longtime residents are quite aware of what has been lost and avoid their own downtown because of this proliferation of serving establishments that has damaged our once unique atmosphere where a healthy offering was paramount.

The tax dollar generating, morphing bars, has won out over the once specialness that our community was known for world wide.

Those who have resisted should be revered, especially the downtown resident that are most directly affected.

The sad thing is, that our whole community is debased by the unending and always approved permits to extend serving licenses along the 101.

Troll all you want, and you will, to the unaware populace about your true purpose in attempting to sway the conversation away from the crucial issue of alcohol serving businesses along the 101.

The ABC approves every application to come before them, even when their own limitations of serving establishments are closer than 100'.

They are completely bought and sold. Unless a city directly objects, every application to serve is approved.

In my college years in another state, the ABC ruled supreme. If only that were true here. We need them, the ABC, to value residents quality of life over the nonstop proliferation of serving businesses along the 101.

    Dream on.

  5. You are an idiot. I'm 70 years old, lived here all my life. Downtown is vibrant and should be expanded. People like you want to live in a little cocoon and complain. GET A LIFE.

  6. Yeah, ya punk!! Get off my vomit and cigarette stained sidewalk. Encinitas rocks! (*hic*)

  7. No longer enjoy downtown or the beach, no longer feels safe. What is the point of living here anymore and why are we so excited to turn it into a dirty, loud urban cesspool that we don't even have the infrastructure to handle? And why is all the beautiful landscaping disappearing?

  8. more people killed on Encinitas streets as City leaders focus on trophy projects like the Moonlight bikini patrol headquarters. The streets suck and the city doesn't do anything about it.

  9. “Nobody goes there anymore. It’s too crowded.”

Yogi Berra logic is alive and well in Encinitown.

  10. Sabotaging a train is terroristic activity now (antifa, etc.), this person better be investigated for more than drunk driving.

  11. party on PB Norte. New year brings more bars and drinking opportunities so the City can bring in more revenue.

we need to change direction of this City this next election. Selling our city's character for bar and developer profits doesn't sit well with me. Time for a leadership and management change.

That may just be the stupidest thing I’ve ever read here.

  14. 10:23pm You may be right from your perspective, but over the long haul here with certain trolls, this is not an isolated occurrence. Sad, but true.

The transparency of certain posters comes through loud and clear even with the anonymity we all enjoy on EU.

Thanks to WC for giving this community an outlet to express itself without having to go Facebook and its kind.

  15. Classic. Our spastic city manager that is the sad joke of So Ca, sends out her own Press Release about getting a 30 year badge of service...... Ha.

She is a big part of the reason City Hall is so screwed up. She brags about, "A few of her recent efforts at City Hall include reorganizing and establishing the Development Services Department for better coordination and acceleration of projects; improving customer service by opening Parks & Recreation Customer Service Counter; adding service tools such as SeeClickFix; and implementing mobility projects. Karen is also known for her passion for instilling the values of empathy, responsiveness, and accountability in staff, and for developing high performance teams. "

Nothing could be further from the truth. Under her lack of leadership, City Hall now went from a D to an F for functionally.

Needed projects are further delayed because of the poor lack planning and her spastic daily changes in direction. Everything I hear at City Hall is she is a total spaz and delays the progress of high priority projects. Very few at city hall or in so California respect Karen.

Same ofd thing that happened under her lack of leadership in San Juan Capistrano.

I hold City Council responsible for placing a competent city manager at the helm of our City. Right now the city manager and hence the City Council are getting a big fat F.

If nothing changes in the near future, I will vote against every City Council member that doesn't do something to replace this incompetent City Manager.

Lets get Encinitas going in the right direction, hire a competent City Manager.

Encinitas, it is rewarded! Sabine is the prime example.

    2. She does as she is instructed by the council, but you know that, 6:33. As usual, you're blaming the messenger.

Settle a runnng debate for us, would you? Are you still somehow employed at the city, perhaps on probation, or did Karen fire your lazy, incompetent, scheming ass and you have a vendetta against her? Pick one.

    3. Try disappointed cytisine with a super low performance from City Hall . F basically .

Couldn’t get any worse. City managers are supposed be professional and provide professional recommendations to city Council.

City council members are pretty much Laypersons and elected office to be reasonable citizens to provide approvals on sound recommendations from professional city managers.

Unfortunately, our city manager is completely incompetent and the city quality of life and infrastructure is suffering because of it.

Either the city Council fire the incompetent city manager, or city Council does not get my vote in the next election.

Encinitas deserves a compliment to the manager.

    5. I get that your writing skills are subpar and you're likely paid as though you had a higher degree (or any at all), and that the low performance ratings go to a lineup of scheming and, at best, incompetent city workers who are being culled as I write.

Sucks to be asked to finally put in a real day of work, I suppose. Awesome for us taxpayers.
