the system is effective. no flooding… they really need to quit dumping the pollutants to Beacon Beach. Its illegal, non-permited and they could lose millions in a law suit if someones decides to sue. I don't think the Coastal Commission would appreciate it either.
7:48 city employee who is up early, the point is that funds designated to FIX this issue have been divereted and wasted on other city projects, city staff members, and city pensions.
As a business owner that has been flooded out in the past, I too am concerned. The city has not solved the flooding issues. Just look at the park and the monster pump to shoot water over the cliff that is directed to the park. City Funds that were drained to fund the sports park and Moonlight improvements. $963,090 from EL CAMINO REAL CHANNEL FUND $450,00 from STORM DRAIN REPAIR $288,569 from COTTTONWOOD CREEK DRAINAGE FUNDS $250,00 from 4th STREET STROM DRAIN FUND And maybe the $821,155 that was pulled from the Habitat/Open Space/Park Acquisition Fund could have been in play in the Pacific View saga. Well, it dose not rain much anymore.
7:48 Actually, Leucadia drains to a verdant basin near the lagoon and percalates. It neither goes directly into the lagoon nor the ocean. Hasn't come over the curb yet here on lower N 101, but they say around noon to be the worst part of the storm.
And 8:40, All $5 million plus addresses 101 drainage and funds were not diverted. There was however a discrepancy about WHO said a larger pipe could not have been installed. No one will stand by that statement now.
I saw Verdant Basin speak at the Optometrists convention. Either way we can all agree that something went wrong with the drainage project, especially after they had to trench out south of Ecke School many years ago to fix that one.

The Leucadia Club in a legally compliant non-profit social club that is invite only and not open to the public per state law. Is is not for profit and is similar to many clubs (e.g., yacht clubs, rod and reel clubs, etc.). We will not be publishing the membership lists or providing public access to our venue.
Most the vast majority of the members are in NC and many founders live in Leucadia. Other than a Del Mar resident named Barbara and one other resident who is upset at the flooding and loitering problems in the back alley my friends and Leucadia neighbors are supportive.
CA is in dire need of some creative energy and focus and we hope this will be a place to think freely and do some interesting things. At the very least there is one less vacant store front on Coast Hwy.

Have you done anything to sound proof the walls or windows?? Will you be good neighbors?? Answer these and other questions publicly.
The oleanders are dying from a bacterium called Xylella - it blocks the xylem and kills the plant. It is vectored by insects called sharpshooters, that feed off the plant. It is incurable and affects many other plants, including olive trees. Miles of oleanders in the freeway mediums are dying from this fatal disease. Nurseries still sell oleanders, but they will most likely get this disease, since the sharpshooters are everywhere. As I said, there is no cure. Most of the oleanders in Orange County and Riverside Counties are already gone - this disease has spread thru out Southern California.

Sounds good. No need for a liquor license if you're focused on creative thinking. Thanks for your efforts and thanks for the effort to reduce the amount of liquor licenses in leucadia...
If you want less storefronts vacant in leucadia, than support the implementation of the streetscape.
Charlie, you and your club have the right to meet, discuss, whatever, but you must understand that any group that has this much secrecy about it is bound to meet with concern and a certain level of fear, even. You've written a noble-sounding purpose that you should know is being met with a high level of cynicism.
Your count of just two concerned neighbors is a terrible underestimation of how many are concerned. It's not just a matter of where you'll all park or whether you'll get too loud at your meetings. Leucadia is large and there are big concerns beyond Leucadia over you folks thinking you know best, then going out and trying to implement your "interesting things."
Concur with the poster above. The following statement "We will not be publishing the membership lists or providing public access to our venue or prying into their personal lives - ask the NSA for those details" comes off as a bit draconian and melodramatic given the situation.
Leucadia is in a big transitional period, where concerns over traffic, alcohol serving establishments, parking, noise and public bad behavior are all on the table.
I have no idea what length of time you've spent in Encinitas, or Leucadia in general, but these are issues of great concern to nearby residents, both long term and recent arrivals.
I myself do no live in that immediate neighborhood, but can certainly understand the potential concerns, and more so the desire for some illumination on the club, not from a personal level, but more from a logistics level on sound, parking and other related matters.
I've seen your posts for the Encinitas Taxpayers Association, so you clearly have knowledge of Encinitas and its current issues. I applaud that effort and look forward to more.
I would urge you to join in the public discussion going on regarding the community by attending city council meetings, planning meetings and engaging in the discourse on this blog even.
I obviously have no clue on your goals and desires for the community, but I'll say it flat out, "CA is in dire need of some creative energy and focus and we hope this will be a place to think freely and do some interesting things" sounds flat out paternalistic in nature.
We need civic engagement, so if this is one of the aims of the group, I implore you to engage in the civic discourse publicly, without secrecy. If the club's goal is just as a hangout, meet with the neighbors and dialogue with them, assuage their fears.
I'm a big believer in the notion that we need to engage with each other, respectfully every day to move our city and state forward. Secrecy, or apparent secrecy does not build the bridge.
There are many private social and charitable clubs in San Diego County and as long as they are in compliance with all the laws of the city, county, and state and are in open dialogue with the local community about relevant concerns then the line should be drawn right there. There needs to be a balance between a right to know what is relevant to the public and people's personal privacy.
This is a social club so who we socialize with and what we talk about and do is private and personal as long as we are compliant with the law - public opinion or personal bias, or anterior agendas does not apply. I will not give on this point.
The LC has provided full detailed personal bios on the BOD of the club and a lengthy FAQ to the city, the press, and to neighbors - this dialogue started last summer. We also did a mass mailer and held an open house to answer questions as per the city.
All we are asking for is a reasonable amount of privacy and that is something that I hope everyone can agree to in this day and age.
And in that spirit I respect your right to post "Mr. Greenjeans".
Regards,
Charlie PS I was born and raised in SoCal and move to NC in 1994.
I apologize if I engendered or promoted any hostility in my post. I was just trying to create dialogue.
Right of the bat, I work in the web sphere locally in town, so posting with my real name is a tricky proposition. I greatly respect those on this blog who can post with their real names, but because of my work, I have to post anonymously.
Sad that I have to do so, but there it is. I respect your right to privacy, but I guess the intersection of public and private is where this whole debate, if you will lands. This isn't a knock, but I have not seen any of the information on the board, the open house, or any of the dialogue with the neighbors, and as full disclosure, I do have friends who live on Neptune, and they haven't seen it either.
Personally, I don't really care who's in the club, or your agenda, I was merely responding to what I perceived the platform was based on your comments. I still would welcome the energy of that group's thoughts in the community, but if that's not where it's at, that's cool too.
The other elephant in the room is the location. If there were no neighbors, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
Obviously there is concern over the neighborhood over volume of use, noise, parking, and potential drinking. I stated that in the post, that's the main thrust of concern in the community. I don't think most of us really want to know who's in the club, and what's going on in there.
That said, let's be honest, secrecy breeds interest or suspicion. That's just a fact. That was the basis of my suggestion to meet the neighborhood. Sounds like you may have done it, and if you so, bravo.
This will all go before the Planning Commission on March 6, so everyone can have their say.
I think there's been a lot of unfortunate heresay on this issue. Is it a surfing club, a drinking club etc..Sorry that has to be, but that's the information age. Add that to the cost of homes in this area and the recent proliferation of drinking places right in that neighborhood, and you have this situation where everyone wants to know what's going on.
P.S., wherever you're from, that's cool with me, I not pulling the local vs. non-local card.
The Lincoln Club comes to mind as a private club that will just as soon kill you if you get in their way. I don't like private and secret clubs. They scare me.
We are not a political action group, a for profit business, charity or government contractor. Thus we will not require our members to participate in city politics, give money to charities, or tackle civic projects or other local problems.
The LC reserves the right to socialize privately and freely; without outside pressure on time or financial obligations, or fear of reprisal by anyone for what is is discussed (e.g., long boarding vs short boarding vs SUP'ing - Russia vs Ukraine, etc.).
The LC is specifically designed as a low key escape from the chaos and demands of every day life. So if our members want to tackle resistant breast cancer, play pool, plan a surf trip, support a local charity, build a spear gun, invite a guest speaker or read a book they will be free to do so.
I will also not agree to limit our club's rights to exist and function any more than that of a yoga studio or spa.
And having lived in Leucadia for a long time I feel that there are far bigger issues in town than a small group of responsible group of people socializing and doing other productive things.
For instance, the last time I was at the Encinitas library with my son we heard a guy selling drugs on the balcony on his phone and then he made an exchange right in front of us with a creep who walked in.
Though there are no overt obligations on members, our members are deeply involved local schools, charities, innovation, technology, medicine, etc. - thus our definition of "interesting things" will be along those lines.
We have been spending a lot of time communicating with the community and city on relevant issues but are going to be firm when it comes to privacy, ideas, and, purpose.
The process of building the LC has been very rewarding and based on how well the team is functioning thus far I am excited about its future.
Sounds good as you explain above, Charlie. It's your group's considerable effort spent to describe its purpose and Longfellow references that protest overmuch. Suspicion naturally follows. Make less of a deal about the creative thinking you folks plan to engage in and I bet we'll all calm down. Be cool, man. No need to impress us with the light you'll bring to us cavemen.
If this club has been so forthright with the CIty, why, when I asked 3 council members about it, did they not know what it was about. Why is there nothing on the Internet about it?
Very simply put Dr. L is that the Leucadia Club can be closely \compared to the Lincoln Club in San Diego. They are very conservative, take no prisoners type of organization that is clothed in secrecy. They are responsible for the nasty flyers that went out regarding Alvarez in the San Diego mayor election. Jerome Stocks is a member. You should be afraid, very, very afraid.
Stocks a member?? Not hard to imagine the rest of the team, then. Hardly the best and the brightest and certainly not Harvard material, as they've compared themselves.
Need to confirm, though. A neighborhood watch should not be hard to set up and know for a fact who attends.
Charlie would no way support Jerome. Jerome is 100% RINO. No worthy fiscal conservative would ever vote in an unwarranted 35% windfall pension increase for Employees with no public discussion.
If you watch the video from that night, you can hear the employees actually cheering the motion. Jerome is pathetic!!!!
Give them a chance. Charlie came on the board, did some give and take, let's give the club a chance to be good neighbors before we pass totally judgment at this point.
Stocks and Muir behind 2010 Lincoln Club hit piece? During the 2010 election, we wrote about the curious hit piece by the (Republican) Lincoln Club of San Diego attacking reform candidates Teresa Barth and Tony Kranz and implicitly supporting union-backed, corrupt Democrat Dan Dalager (who has since pled guilty) and his neophyte ally Kristin Gaspar.
We wrote to Lincoln Club board members inquiring about the bizarre hit piece at the time, and received a response that perhaps they could use more help vetting candidates in the future. It still seemed very odd to us that the Lincoln Club would have dumped thousands of dollars into a hit piece in a small-town election about which they knew nothing.
Until now.
An Encinitas Undercover source sends along this gem. Right before the Lincoln Club hit piece came out, guess who donated to the Lincoln Club's mailer campaign.
Encinitas Firefighters Association PAC 10/27/2010 $3000.00 Prop 22 Jerome Stocks 10/27/2010 $4000.00 Prop A
So the Encinitas Firefighters Association PAC suddenly found an urgent need to support California Proposition 22, which was cruising to an easy 60-40 victory, right before the election.
And the same day, Jerome Stocks, who has made a political career out of supporting the unions and increasing their pension benefits, decided he wanted to personally contribute $4000 to the Lincoln Club for Proposition A against the unions?
And completely coincidentally, the Lincoln Club sent out a hit piece attacking Stocks' rivals Barth and Kranz just four days later?
I doubt there would be anything illegal about Jerome Stocks and Mark Muir's firefighter union's PAC donating directly to the anti-Barth and Kranz hit piece, so the sleight-of-hand subterfuge is probably just to avoid the tawdry appearance of tawdry reality.
And here who the Lincoln Club supported in 2012 Federal Elizabeth Emken, U.S. Senate Darrell Issa, 49th Congressional District, U.S. House of Representatives Duncan Hunter, 50th Congressional District, U.S. House of Representatives Brian Bilbray, 52nd Congressional District, U.S. House of Representatives State George Plescia, 39th District State Senate Brian Jones, 71st District State Assembly Diane Harkey, 73rd District State Assembly Marie Waldron, 75th District State Assembly Rocky Chavez, 76th District State Assembly Brian Maienschein, 77th District State Assembly Mary England, 79th District State Assembly County Steve Danon, County Board of Supervisors, District 3 Local City of Chula Vista Pamela Bensoussan, Seat 3 City of El Cajon Tony Ambrose, City Council Bob McClellan, City Council Bill Wells, City Council City of Encinitas Kevin Forrester, City Council Mark Muir, City Council Jerome Stocks, City Council City of Escondido Michael Morasco, City Council P.O. Box 12664, La Jolla, CA 92039 T 619.531.1971 F 858.630.3346 www.sdlincolnclub.org
I call Bullshit on Charlie. When anyone puts together a secret club there is an agenda. If they wanted to just sit around and shoot the shit they can do it in their own homes, no need for a private, exclusive club that one can only be invited to join. It will probably end up at the City Council and my guess is, they will say go for it. And, Sabine will sit their like the bobble head that he is, no matte how many laws they break.
the system is effective. no flooding… they really need to quit dumping the pollutants to Beacon Beach. Its illegal, non-permited and they could lose millions in a law suit if someones decides to sue. I don't think the Coastal Commission would appreciate it either.

Regards,
Charlie
PS I was born and raised in SoCal and move to NC in 1994.
Charlie, answer the questions of 6:24am.
DeleteCharlie,
DeleteI apologize if I engendered or promoted any hostility in my post.
-Mr Greenjeans
The Lincoln Club comes to mind as a private club that will just as soon kill you if you get in their way. I don't like private and secret clubs. They scare me.
DeleteSorry they scare you chickenshit…. don't walk near it, someone may runout and beat the crap out of you!

(I said in jest of course!)
DeleteHi All,
ReplyDeleteThis will be my last post for today.
Regards,
Charlie
Charlie,
DeleteIf you see that going down at the library, call the cops, that's totally uncool. Let the library guys know as well.
ReplyDeleteThat said, you can't unring a bell. ;)
If this club has been so forthright with the CIty, why, when I asked 3 council members about it, did they not know what it was about. Why is there nothing on the Internet about it?
ReplyDeleteVery simply put Dr.
ReplyDeleteStocks a member?? Not hard to imagine the rest of the team, then. Hardly the best and the brightest and certainly not Harvard material, as they've compared themselves.
DeleteNeed to confirm, though. A neighborhood watch should not be hard to set up and know for a fact who attends.
Dear All,
ReplyDeleteThe LC is a non-political club and is a place to escape such things and people with agendas, especially political agendas.
If it were a PAC then the charter, incorporation, membership and goals would be the opposite - planks, platform and membership drives.
And if Anonymous had the facts he/she would know that Jerome is not a member and that I was no a fan of his.
Regards,
Charlie McDermott
Kind of wondered about that...!
DeleteCharlie would no way support Jerome. Jerome is 100% RINO. No worthy fiscal conservative would ever vote in an unwarranted 35% windfall pension increase for Employees with no public discussion.
DeleteIf you watch the video from that night, you can hear the employees actually cheering the motion. Jerome is pathetic!!!!
He should be because his club is not what he says it is.
DeleteGuys,
DeleteGive them a chance. Charlie came on the board, did some give and take, let's give the club a chance to be good neighbors before we pass totally judgment at this point.

ReplyDeleteStocks and Muir behind 2010 Lincoln Club hit piece?
Encinitas Firefighters Association PAC 10/27/2010 $3000.00 Prop 22
Jerome Stocks 10/27/2010 $4000.00 Prop A
So the Encinitas Firefighters Association PAC suddenly found an urgent need to support California Proposition 22, which was cruising to an easy 60-40 victory, right before the election.
And here who the Lincoln Club supported in 2012

Why would the Lincoln Club support Jerome if he is a RINO? Check their website, and see what they are about.
ReplyDeleteThere was a saying back in the day "You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows" Bob Dylan
ReplyDeleteBut you do need a Chrysler.....
DeleteI call Bullshit on Charlie.
ReplyDeleteHi Charlie: When it's up and running can I join? I like to talk about real things with intelligent people. Thanks for considering my request.
