A craftsman for the ages, and for all ages to appreciate.
He is one tough old bird. I once saw him driving his 'Thing' the VW model, half way down Baja when I was enjoying my ac in comfort. He was in that open topped contraption with no shelter from the sun or the wind.
He would come out and surf the East Cape with Renny and Mickey and others while still shaping and riding his own shapes. Renny tried to get him on some modern longboards that would have been helpful, especially weight wise.
The last time I saw Pat a few years ago around here was in a parking lot waiting for his caretaker/partner/wife who was shopping while he waited in the car.
I reminded him of our shared times surfing and loving the East Cape life.
At the time, he might have had a stroke to deal with, so it is good to hear he is still with us. Happy 90th Pat.
There are many stories I had the privilege to listen to sitting on the beach between surf sessions while he and Renny and Mickey [Munoz] talked story. Talking story was such a thing for that generation and I took it all in when I had the chance.
Oh, for a recording of some of those adventures I heard him and them recall.
Pat used to have a shaping room on D ST. He glassed one of his famous big wave boards on the sidewalk. The resin drips left showed the profile template. Mike Doyle wanted the template but was afraid to ask Pat so he walked up to the Vons where city hall is now and bought some butcher paper and a pencil and transferred the template onto the paper. Pat came out and told him he could have asked for it. This story is from Mike's book Morning Glass.
I met Pat once, at the East Cape, epic hurricane swell. Between session, I asked Pat and Rennie to sign my longboard. Of course, it broke in half during the afternoon session, right between the two signatures.
WC ain't the admin anymore, but Admin is a bit slow these days. I think they must have a life.
So Stan was no show as predicted. I wonder if he just sat there last night chewing his bloody toenail-less toe ends or if he was scheming on ways to some how become Mayor. No Matter. Glad to see Stan😶 is done.
On other matters, the ocean needs preserves like at swamis to protect from all the damage from the overpopulated humans along the coast. COVID did nothing to lessen the herd and the humans are packed in like a rat outbreak and are destroying everything along the coast.
No matter to Kranz, He could care less if there is no water, or the existing humans are packed in like squashed sardines, he will continue to approve all developments to make the developers more money.
"Fuck all you residents in Leucadia that voted for me", Tony says. "You losers ain't getting the sweet kickbacks I get!"
"Yeah so what if kids are getting hit on Vulcan and there is no place to walk along my new free storage parking lot for contractors, boats, jetskis and the homeless. Who cares if I fenced off the coastline and now everyone has to drive to the shops on mainsttreet and the beach. Hell just look at me - I love the run down look. Its who I am."
If you see someone putting up a Kranz sign be sure to let them know you do not appreciate them continue to ruin Encinitas and make it more and more like LA every day.
Just watched the meeting from last night! Marco is using a his evidence a report that he said was not prepared in time for the appeal! He then goes on to attack residents while positioning himself as an expert.

ReplyDeletemost residents who spoke at the meeting were in favor of the project so not sure which residents were attacked
DeleteEver heard of Blakespear calling in favors to speak in support of an unpopular vote?? Familarize yourself with it.
DeleteYes., Practice with her fatal bike lane fiasco‘s

DeleteMargo has everything but the red light over the front door.
ReplyDeleteMargo was also wearing a Hawaiian shirt. Does she have the hula skirt to go with it?
DeleteYou would have to check his closet. Not interested. No telling what would be found there. More red lights?
ReplyDeleteMy skin crawls every time I see him. It has become an involuntary response after all the bs spewed from his pie hole.
