City council approved a grant application for state funds to deal with the homeless.
Days after the election, city staff withdrew the grant application without consulting the sitting city council.
The next day, the city manager resigned.
One of two things likely happened, and both are shitty, scandalous, and possibly illegal.
The first is that the incoming council members pressured staff to withdraw the grant application before they were sworn in without informing the sitting council members.
The second is that the old council didn’t trust the incoming council to use the grant funds properly, so they pressured city staff to 86 the grant application.
I guess the third option is city staff is doing whatever the f they want without consulting council, but I don’t see it. If they are that arrogant, then the CM wouldn’t resign.
Whatever went down, it’s pretty easy to imagine the outgoing CM tipping off the Coast News on her way out the door. Somebody did something shady, and we need to know who.
2:50, whether it was to sabotage the incoming council or because they didn’t trust the new council to use the funds properly, it would be a major scandal if the outgoing council pressured city staff to withdraw the application without any paper trail or official action in an open meeting. It’s would also be shady AF for the CM to follow that instruction without any formal communication from council or vote of council to do so in a proper public meeting.
Somebody needs to be held accountable. The public needs to demand an investigation.

Given the timing, there is no way this is on any currently sitting council member aside from Lyndes. Who knows how much/whether she was in the know and whether she supported the action or not if she was aware.
This is not about Instagram posts, this is about a city that holds itself accountable and is truly transparent with residents. This is our money whether it's grant or staff salaries, and we should have answers. City hall should put out a statement and yes, send it to the papers if that is how they choose to push it out.

City council approved a grant application for state funds to deal with the homeless.
Days after the election, city staff withdrew the grant application without consulting the sitting city council.
The next day, the city manager resigned.
One of two things likely happened, and both are shitty, scandalous, and possibly illegal.
The first is that the incoming council members pressured staff to withdraw the grant application before they were sworn in without informing the sitting council members.
The second is that the old council didn’t trust the incoming council to use the grant funds properly, so they pressured city staff to 86 the grant application.
I guess the third option is city staff is doing whatever the f they want without consulting council, but I don’t see it. If they are that arrogant, then the CM wouldn’t resign.
Either way, this is a big time scandal.

See the state wrote the grant language for a housing first policy, and that’s not going to align with council policy going forward. Now, we have the votes to overturn the previous decision. If someone pressured or directed her to do it, it needs to be exposed and there needs to be accountability. Doesn’t matter which “side” the direction came from.

DeleteWith the heavy shaming regarding homelessness coming from the Blakespear camp the voters should know what went down. Given the timing, there is no way this is on any currently sitting council member aside from Lyndes. Who knows how much/whether she was in the know and whether she supported the action or not if she was aware.
This is not about Instagram posts, this is about a city that holds itself accountable and is truly transparent with residents. This is our money whether it's grant or staff salaries, and we should have answers. City hall should put out a statement and yes, send it to the papers if that is how they choose to push it out.
