One of North County’s most unique restaurant chains, has closed its last, and original location, inside Cardiff by the Sea’s San Elijo State Beach campground.
“People drive up here everyday. They’re disappointed and heartbroken it’s gone,” said a park volunteer.
In 2009, when the Bull Taco restaurant took over the hamburger stand at the campground, it quickly attracted diners from throughout the area, not just campers.
First, they came for Taco Auctioneer, and I did not speak out . . .
ReplyDeleteAsada Tots está muerto.
Viva Los Asada Tots!
That little campground eatery won the Best of Cardiff restaurants at least once, if not twice. They are missed and it is a shame. They set a fine standard for delicious simple food presentation that cannot be denied.
ReplyDeleteSorry to see them go. I wonder if their other outlet has survived? I know the one next to Encinitas Surfboards is gone. What about Carlsbad?
They had some unique offerings at times that allowed me to sample things that I never would have had the chance to taste.
The restaurant business has a high failure and turnover rate and losing Bull Taco is part of the game. I hope they can find a way to come back to us somehow, someway.
Thanks for what you brought to our shores. Best wishes Greg and company.
Re-open Taco Auctioneers. Now that was a great eatery.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.latimes.com/politics/essential/la-pol-ca-essential-politics-updates-california-cities-say-worker-pension-1517521378-htmlstory.html
ReplyDeleteThis is such BS. So city employees all over CA gave themselves a 30% raise, pensions are 68% short of meeting futures obligations, tax payers get the shaft. Tax dollar thieves get paid, for the rest of their lives. Why cut city services? I say we cut city pay, 30% paycut or 30 days notice, take a pick. Savings in payroll go to future pension payout only. Thanks for nothing $tocks.
Ditch the train through the only part of CA that doesn’t have traffic too. We have the stupidest public transportation in the world right here in SD. Trains that don’t run often or late enough, that go miles away from anywhere you actually want to go. Downtown, fairgrounds, airport, beaches, wave as you pass them by and stop miles away. Those are the kind of services worthy of a 30% pension raise?
Will Santa Fe ever be finished or are they waiting to get sued like San Diego for trip and fall injuries? Every week there seems to be someone from staff apologizing for mistakes or asking for money to hire a real expert. Does it take an expert to hire an expert? Have we lost city hall to special interest?
Trying to start a convo here, the subjects on this blog are not exactly thought provoking anymore. Tacos only goes so far.
Roger Ogden (the racist poster) will be at the Border Park acting like the dickhead he is. I’m going to go get in his face again. You will remember me roger, you have video of my nostrils, you little weak POS. Maybe you can respond with something other than” duuuh, uh, uhhhhh, uh, I don’t know.” If you go just look for the weak little pot belly guy clutching a camera in fear, that’s roger. Don’t worry about his friends, they are old and fat and just stood there even though I was alone, pussies, they think beards and leather jackets make them look like bad assess. https://sandiegofreepress.org/2018/01/rightist-bordertown-patriot-provocateurs-plan-chicano-park-disruption/

ReplyDeleteJustin Parker plead guilty in the hit and run of a young woman in Encinitas.
DeleteWrong thread.
DeleteIt's called breaking news - no thread necessary.
DeleteM'okay...but there is a dedicated thread, dude.
Delete9:43 PM Be an investigative reporter - check the time lines.
DeleteStill off topic. Write wc with your news flash. Too many thread hijackers here.
Delete5:59pm whatever. Its a blog not the marines. Geez. Get a grip and breath homie.
ReplyDeleteAs usual, you make no sense. Your half-formed sentences and complete lack of punctuation make you a prime candidate for the "ignore it and move on, it can't be understood" club.
DeleteThis thread is about Bull Taco. Get a grip, indeed. Larry Parker and his pos son have their own dedicate thread.
ReplyDeleteBull Taco is missed. Their culinary offerings set a new local standard for food presentation.
Thank you Greg and company for your setting a standard that few others have been willing to approach.
You're a bit anal.
Deletethe place sucked and service was subpar. I'm sure transplants loved it.
ReplyDeleteI liked it. Moved here in ‘99. Try to be special for something other than where your parents had sex.
Delete7:52pm You obviously have an axe to grind, and it is not about their food or their service.
ReplyDeleteBull Taco won the best restaurant in Cardiff once, if not twice. With all those high buck restaurants competing, they must have had more going on than you were able to appreciate. Perhaps your taste buds have been altered by something other than food.
As a 45 year long transplant, Bull Taco was unique and special compared to any other in all those decades since the 70's.
Sorry you had to wait for their food to be cooked and served. Perhaps McDonalds fast food is more your style.
I never considered waiting for ten minutes to be an issue. It was always worth the wait. Every time.
You missed out.
They slipped off since winning those titles. Years and years ago - not bad at all. Last location next to Encinitas Surfboards sucked - except on the original Ramen night when Volk was the chef. Lose the chefs lose the touch. Hay otros tacos en este ciudad. Hasta La Vista
DeleteI have to agree with unpopular 9:08pm. Bull Taco was 'meh' at the campgrounds. Spotty service and average tasting Mexican food, though I give them credit for a few creative ingredient experiments. I liked them OK, but they never lived up to the buzz.
DeleteI guess it was so good and well run that they closed all their shops?
ReplyDeleteToo much $$$ for a taco! Food was good but way over priced
