Four years after spending $10 million for abandoned school, city proposes modest improvements

Coast News:
Plans to transform the shuttered Pacific View Elementary School site into an arts, culture and ecology center are headed to the Encinitas Planning Commission for approval this week, more than four years after the city purchased the old Pacific View Elementary School site and selected a group to steward its restoration.

[...]

Plans also call for the project to be completed in two phases: Phase 1 would include basic facility improvements, disabled access and restrooms that would allow the group behind the project to slowly begin programming.

Phase 2 would include the full implementation of programming, improvements to the parking lot area, new fencing and interior site landscaping.

  1. Where is the funding for the improvements coming from?

  2. Build the StreetScape in front of the Pacific View School. Maybe throw a roundabout or three in the courtyard. Some bike lanes in the parking lot. Run the raingutter downspouts over the hill and into the ocean. Four projects for the cost of one.

  3. Most people wanted the city to buy the property but certainly not at the price they paid. This was very poorly executed with no funds left to bring it up to standard.

  4. This is the biggest JOKE of Encinitas. Four years of letting a small group of activist play gardeners. Where is the money THEY promised us???

  5. The land should be sold. So far this 10 million dollar property has provided no return other than some finger painting classes for I don't know who. That is tax payer monies and these fools that aren't clear what planet they live on think this their money.
Notice how the city genius' never placed that property on the low income housing list. Gee....why not?
Sell the property....be done with it. The buildings are probably full of asbestos anyway.

    1. Because of Prop A?

    2. No, not because of Prop A. There are state restrictions on what can be done with school properties.

  6. Sell the property but first put green and yellow cones around it, and don't forget speed bumps. Gotta cover the streets with speed bumps.

Encinitas, the biggest failure in the county!!

  7. 5:44 AM the only asbestos was in the glue used to adhere the floor tile. Got that straight from the janitor who'd worked there for decades when Tim Baird took everyone on a little walking tour.

  8. Only in the glue....how would the janitor know?...check all ceiling tile, floor tiles and insulation around all heating vent ducting.
Insulation in walls as well if any. Sell it, that's our money, not a few sandal wearing greasy long gray haired hippies.
    The property generates NO revenue.

  9. Tim Baird took "everyone?" I seem to remember some photo ops that featured Teresa and Tony - back when they were "T n' T" - "Trust and Transparency." How'd that work out for us?

  10. Teresa Barth will go down as the worst council person we have ever had in our city, period!

    1. Teresa Barth was a govt secretary (with a tax payer funded pension for playing 'office' down at the Fairgrounds who married a cuckold and then let her true colors shine: hatred of men, traditional society and anything no Marxist in nature. She is a terrible, angry, evil, little women. - her poor 'partner.'
