The council unanimously voted in favor of the plan, which would provide housing and healthcare assistance to vulnerable residents, and agreed to bring on a housing manager to help coordinate and manage homeless services in Encinitas.
A Point-in-Time Count conducted in January 2020 reported a total of 80 homeless people living within city boundaries, 58% of whom live without shelter on the streets, beaches, parks canyons and in vehicles. These numbers include the neighboring areas of Solana Beach and Del Mar.
Roughly half of the homeless population are transition-aged youths between 18 and 24.

This should be the County's responsibility; the City is unnecessarily taking on another government agencies job. Once enacted, the City creates a transfer of obligation that will be permanent.

The heartlessness of some jumping all over teachers for expecting respect for their own lives during a pandemic is heartless.
Blaming others for them having to 'parent' until safety protocols are in place, is heartless. If these whiners could spend some time in teachers shoes, they might show some compassion.
In the current climate, it is so easy to criticize our educators for expecting a modicum of consideration until conditions are safe for them and their families to resume teaching that has driven their life choices.
Money, sadly, has never been in the equation. Commitment to our youth has been. Teachers deserve so much more. Their value to our youth is beyond measuring.
