Roundabouts for Olivenhain?

Encinitas Advocate:
The idea of installing two roundabouts along Rancho Santa Fe Road to keep heavily congested traffic moving, but not going too fast, seems like the right way to proceed, Encinitas city traffic commissioners said last week.

“I think this proposed solution is good,” Commission Chairman Brian Grover said, adding that he’s never understood why the one-mile, Olivenhain portion of the roadway has so many stop signs and roundabouts would be a nice improvement.

City Traffic Engineer Abe Bandegan presented the roundabout idea to the commissioners, asking them for their views and telling them he’s producing a report on the proposal for the City Council’s initial consideration. He stressed that the proposal is still in the early stages, with no funding yet identified and no engineering drawings done.

  1. The same Grover who's a favorite with the Encinitas Court so they will be having a close listen to him. Not enough to have his mitts in several high density projects, he's turning his construction talents to Olivenhain.

The same engineer Bandegan who gave us the cycle trap and had no end of excuses for how the the pileup of bodies was an "improvement."

The same cast of characters as usual will give us the same stupid results. The definition of insanity.

  2. Bravo! Bravo! Encinitas Guerrilla in finest form this week. https://yourencinitasguerrilla.blogspot.com/

    Please Cry for Me Encinitas

    It won’t be easy
    You’ll think I’m strange
When I try to explain how I feel
That I still need your love
    After all that I’ve done

    You won’t believe me
    All you will see
Is a gal you once knew
    Who failed to preserve paradise
As she always promised to do

I first had to betray you
    I had to lie
Couldn’t stay all my life in the law
    Looking out through the window
    Staying out of the sun

    So I chose council
    Ran for mayor
    Making everything pew
And nothing deterred me at all
    I never expected it to

    Please cry for me, Encinitas
The truth is I up and left you
    All through my lying days
    My bad existence
    I broke my promise
    Just keep your distance

    And as for fortune
    And as for fame
    I always invited them in
And I showed to the world

    They are all I desire
    They are ambitions
They are surely the brass rings
    They promised to be

The answer was here all the time
I love you and hope you love me
Although I have blood on my hands

    Please cry for me, Encinitas
The truth is I up and left you

    All through my lying days
    My bad existence
    I broke my promise
    Just keep your distance

    Have I lied too much?
    There’s nothing more
I can think of how to play you
But all you have to do
Is look at me to know
That my words are not true

    Please cry for me, Encinitas

  3. Don't any of you find it odd the clowns the fools voted fore can't seem to leave anything alone? Now they are attempting to ruin Olivenhain with roundabouts and GHETTO APARTMENTS?
What the hell is wrong with these people?
And yet, these buffoons want to put money into an old school downtown for finger painting classes...
    These baboons are batsheet crazy

  5. There's not enough space along RSF Road for roundabouts big enough to work. Little ones like on Leucadia Blvd and Santa FE Drive would be worse than the stop signs that are there now.

The city keeps crowing about the coming Streetscape roundabouts. There are four, and they all too small. Three are within a half mile at the north end, and the fourth is 1.2 miles south.

Their size and placement defeat what they're supposed to achieve.

    1. There's plenty of room if you eminent domain. Anyone who thinks this isn't already in the works is a fool. Grover didn't just cook this up overnight.

    2. "If" eminent domain occurs, sue the holy hell out of the City of Encinitas. If and when these leftists try that, they could be coming after anyone.
I am hoping it doesn't happen but ruining Encinitas seems to be on the menu. Once ruined...it can't go back.
Remember newsom and what he has done and what he believes.

    3. Eminent domain requires the city to buy the property from the private owners. That's what the city is doing at several locations along 101 in Leucadia for Streetscape.

With the $11 million settlement and others coming due to the precedent set, how much do you think the city wants to spend for private property in Olivenhain?

    4. After the $11 MUSD pay-out for presenting shared lanes as guaranteed safe-spaces for bicyclists, why is the City moving forward with roundabouts and the insane idea that bicyclists can and must "take the lane" when entering the circle? Every crash in a Streetscape or other roundabout is going to cost the City millions. With the Walker precedent, roundabouts are crazy and unnecessary liabilities.

  6. no need for eminant domain. The ones on Leucadia Blvd and Santa Fe Drive work great for carrying around 20,000 vehicles a day, plus bikes, peds, skateboards, dog walkers, and kids.

The only ones that seem to not like them are old out of sorts folks who should probably not be driving anyway.

Lets face it, there comes a time when some people should not drive.

    -Peace

    1. Catch up 8:35, eminent domain is in the works. It is legal and you can bet your bippy that Grover and Blakespear already know who will sell.

Remember, you are dealing with a mayor who thinks pensions work like home mortgages and that our "finances are in fine shape" while lying about the cost of infrastructure repairs. She'll get the money.

    2. It's not eminent domain upfront. The city identifies the owners whose property it wants and offers them a price. If an owner doesn't accept the buyout, then the city takes the property by eminent domain. The threat of eminent domain is behind the buyout offer.

    3. 8:35 when you learn to operate a tape measure you will notice the road in Olivenhain is much narrower than Leucadia Blvd. So it is just fine with you if peoples property is force purchased for pennies on the dollar? Apparently you are not a property owner. And if you are then you aren't a smart property owner.

    4. 5:16 Pennies on the dollar? Eminent domain requires payment of fair market value, based on an appraisal. Maybe you're the less smart one?

  8. For all you bitching about Eminent Domain, the Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution states “nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation”.

Why do you hate our Constitution?
