Barth gives council benefit of doubt on $11 million crony payout; doesn't want to know any facts

Former councilwoman Teresa Barth's newsletter on the injury payout to a personal friend of the city council:

My experience, while on city council, with these personal injury cases rarely had little to do with who was at fault but an analysis of potential costs. What are the expected legal costs of a trial, potential settlement amount (juries usually side with the victim) and is it covered by insurance? Not knowing all the specifics of this case, I am still confident that the council made a prudent decision.

The Sheriff's Department has a detailed accident reports on this case. What possible justification is there for our City Council to continue to hide this report from the public while giving away $11 million of the public's money?

Anyone remember "Transparency and Trust?"

  1. Dear Teresa,
The book knocked me out, but this woke me back up.

How can you "know" it is prudent? What would it look like if it were not prudent? More important, given the amount and that fact that council members are personally connected to the recipient and widely circulated story that emerged immediately after the incident that it was the recipient that was negligent, and then the Mayor made statements pointing to city culpability without having resolved facts at the time (unless there was some super special circumstances). Even without this, why shouldn't the public get to know why an $11 million check is being cut? Based on trust? The council has earned mistrust. Would you (Teresa) please correct all of my misunderstandings?

    1. Don't expect the thought process to interfere with being a good foot soldier for the mayor.

  2. Yep! "T n' T" - "Teresa and Tony, Transparency and Trust." Between them what a farce they made of their campaign promises and the offices to which they were elected.

Kranz is always the first to "take it into closed session" and Barth has become a caricature of herself. Like Shaffer, she yearns for relevance. Just another tool in Blakespear's "toolkit."

  3. File a suit against the city related to the accident and subpoena the sheriff's report.

  4. Teresa is famous for fighting for what she sees as the underdog at the expense of taxpayers. Remember how she fought to keep Gus Vina on because he,"hasn't been given a chance!" The result of that decision is that we bought the Pacific View School with Lease Revenue Bonds, and taxpayers have paid more than $5 million from the General Fund for an empty building. Gus also messed up on a deal with a City-owned ball field that cost us dearly. She also has fought hard to make John DeWalt the manger of the failed Pacific View School project and helped him get a large sum of money to finish up Pacific Station when he had financial problems. Lawsuits against him are public record at the County. Does this sound like the best person to be managing a project that was already a financial disaster? There is nothing that Teresa loves more than a failure. Then she turns on citizens and points out how unfairly they treat her. I can't believe I voted for her. I am so ashamed.

    1. Same here. Voted for her and guilty too. She told several people that she liked Vina's eyeglasses. Is that a reason to hire a weasel?

Speaking of Pacific View School how did E4E newcomer Mali Woods Drake end up recently appointed as VP of the school board? Did Barth have a hand in this sly move to infiltrate that the mayor hopes no one notices?

    2. Don't get me started on the Pacific View School. These fools have yet to sell it as they should. Now it is a finger painting building, or, build low income housing as these leftist are always screaming about. How about a 10 story building of free rent for all the covid infected illegals the left is letting into the country? Cheeseus...Do something

  5. Barth appears tight with Gonzalez, often thanking him for his "insight" on posts he makes on Verdu's sites. Talk about buying Kool-Aid by the barrel full.

  6. Barth got a lot of sympathy when she was in the minority of two on the City Council. Things got worse when she became the minority of one. The other four shit all over her. That led people to believe that when she later was in the majority, she would do good things for the residents of Encinitas. That turned out to be wrong.

  7. From what I have seen, Barth brought a lot of the dislike from her colleauges onto herself. It could be that she is a shitty person. I made my spouse vote for her and was told by him that he didn't like her. Truth be told, I didn't like her either but thought erroniously that she was the better of two evils. Boy, I wish there were a redo on that one!

    1. Yea, Barth pulled the wool over alot of peoples' eyes. I guess the stench of Stocks' presence on the council masked that of Barth's; until he lost.

  8. Barth's comments are pure speculation. Without the accident report fault in the accident is unproven. The fact that the city has refused to release the report suggests that it was not the fault of the driver, who was not cited, but the bike rider. Barth is a Blakespear loyalist and misses the influence that comes from being in office. The payment to the bike rider needs to be publicly justified regardless of any insurance policy. Insurance is never free.
