“As a father of a child who was killed crossing a green (lit) intersection, it cuts deep to see no action. (Also) as a father of a 9-year-old who uses his feet and his … bike to go to school, it leaves me frightened and concerned and angry,” he said, later adding, “Safety is not a privilege. It’s a right. Please, please, perform some actions quickly for the rest of this community and my 9-year-old son.”
City Hall, “ death, death death that’s all we hear. Can you please think about us and when we’re gonna get our next raise and how is our pension looking?
The bigger question is when is the rotation of the fire chief going to happen and when will the next chicken little be promoted to chief so they can complete their eternal cycle of spiking pensions?”

The city council then replied that everyone knows they don’t run City Hall. It’s the city manager’s responsibility..

He added that he was deeply troubled by one resident’s comment that city traffic engineer Abe Bandegan said two lanes would be safer than three for pedestrians and cyclists on Encinitas Boulevard. “I want to caution staff to know that when you say things without a back study, without the report, without the information, you frighten people,” he said. “So, be really careful of that. Be aware of what you say.”
The city manager, then replied, “ Pipe down.. You know the rules. We run City Hall. You don’t. We follow direction from those that hired us, Catherine Blakespear, BIA, and the Kranzinitas team”
Re “Encinitas evaluates traffic safety, driver behavior after 12-year-old’s death” (June 21) : The city of Encinitas has its heart in the right place, but its proposed solutions are not enough. The story references a recurring problem of drivers disobeying stop signs. Instead of installing countermeasures which are shown to slow drivers down at conflict points, like raised crosswalks or raised intersections, the suggested solution is to pay more deputies to sit at intersections and ticket anyone who rolls the stop, or just teach drivers not to do that.
When you have a traffic system where almost everyone is breaking the law, as is the case with rolling stops, the issue is not the people, it’s the system. Let design do the enforcement so deputies can concentrate their efforts on other issues.
And over on Encinitas Enraged they are vilifying O'Hara for asking questions. Can't have that, gotta keep their Beauchamp3M insider access so they can pull staff strings. Shindler was dethroned from her Lyndes-appointed seat at the table with the electeds on the school liaison commission. O'Hara had her move back into the audience where she belonged.
