In those days the "developer whores" on council were of a different political persuasion than those currently being blamed for development.

This isn't pro or counter the current majority, but by law they have to approve those projects if they meet legal standards for the area, so I can't fault them for that. If people think they were promised a chance at slowing development based on gov. powers, then you A.) didn't do your homework and B.) got snookered by a political promise.
