Do as I say, not as I do

With extensive street striping makeovers taking place citywide and Blakespear's near-hyper campaign for bike safety in the wake of the Walker accident, why are they all bareheaded?

  1. Encinitas is not bike friendly, in terms of traffic safety. Now the electric bikes are appearing and they move at a much quicker speed. The disregard for traffic rules when on a bike is common; but the consequences are grave with the added speed and reduction of reaction time. Common sense is not so common anymore.

This requirement also applies to a person who rides upon a bicycle while in a restraining seat that is attached to the bicycle or in a trailer towed by the bicycle.

  3. This seems very petty. The photo is at the park, and was obviously part of a photo shoot. Should they be wearing helmets? Sure. But you are acting like the Paparazzi got a photo of them riding down Highway 1 with beers and no helmets.

    2. You would think the way Blakespear and Hinze force their cycling-centric worldview on us they'd be walking the talk, but no.

Appears photo ops to use now and for 2020 elections mean they get a pass. 2:37 may not have an issue with that, but others say it points to a lack of judgment at best and arrogance at worst.

  4. This bike fantasy reminds me of the made up lie of "man made global warming". If they say it enough, they will believe it.
If she thinks people are going to start riding bicycles all over Encinitas she is sadly confused. She has convinced herself of the bike riding and of the fake science of man made global warming. Ohhh' GAWD.

    1. 3:19 has it half right. Bicycling and walking are not going to become popular enough to relieve traffic congestion or reduce GHG.

But global warming is man made as virtually every scientist on Earth says.

    2. 5:46 Nope. NOT every scientist on Earth states that man made global warming is a fact. First off, follow the grant money, find the lies. Let me provide you just few.

    5. 6:21 - Acid rain didn't just disappear. The clean Air Act of the early 70's (signed by Nixon!) required the removal of sulfur from raw coal before burning it in power plants, or scrubbing it from the exhaust. Thus the sulfur would no longer convert to sulfuric acid and mix with rainfall.

Simple facts and science. Now go back to your Russian troll hole.

    7. When the term "man made global warming" didn't catch on, the greedy creeps announced it was now "global warming".
When that that also failed, it was again change to
"climate change". That way even simple people could understand. "Ohhh' it's the climate, it has to be true".
Al Gore made millions while the believers peed their pants.
And yet, the believers blame their own country for the so called problems. Never China or India, only America.
In a recent interview with electric vehicle owners they were asked where electricity comes from to power their cars. Most stated solar or wind turbines without a clue how electricity is generated. Perhaps it is bliss to live in the world of ignorance.

    16. 1:57 can’t comprehend that we also still use air conditioners and aerosol spray cans without harming the ozone layer because we had global systematic changes resulting in new refrigerants and aerosol propellants. Back in the 80s, he would have argued that catalytic converters, smokestack scrubbers, and the end of leaded gasoline were going to kill the economy and human progress.

They didn’t. Science is science, whether you believe it or not. And history shows that we can rise to environmental challenges and thrive.

    1. You keep repeating that stat like a badge of honor. And again you'll be reminded, much as you like to dismiss the reasons she won, she was "challenged" by a latecomer who lives here (maybe), had a dog for a running mate, had no clue about local issues, and whose standard attire was farm laborer hat, Hawaiian shirt, and flip flops...'nuff said.

Every time one of her minion quote that number as a sign of her greatness/popularity/whatever fantasy they want to assign to it, the rest of us think that that 15% should have been less than 1%.

    2. No credible candidate would run, in order to avoid being branded a loser and harming future election prospects.

The mayor is doing a great job, and has strong support. 2020 will be no different.

      Delete
    3. Consider the possibility that he does not care about blakespear branding him a loser, which is exactly what she did with her boastful win report. And that he doesn't care what her followers think, either.

Doing a great job is not highly debatable, it's laughable. Just curious: what is your favorite Kool-Aid flavor?

      Delete
    4. It’s not any candidate branding someone a loser, it’s the donor class. The more losses on your record, the harder it is to raise money for a run. Donating money to a loser is like flushing it down the toilet. This is why strong candidates take a pass on running against incumbents with strong support of the electorate.

Politicians who are doing a bad job don’t get the luxury of running against a nut case and his dog. And they sure as hell don’t pull in 85% of the vote.

So, we know as a matter of fact that prior to November 2018, Mayor Blakespear was seen by voters and prospective candidates as doing a good job and enjoying broad support.

So the question becomes, has anything changed in the last eight months? Has she done something different? Changed positions? Had a major scandal? It would have to be something big to move the needle from 85% support to less than 50%.

      Delete
    5. Your "matter of fact" and "strong support of the electorate" cannot be tested because, let's face it, JP was completely unviable. I wouldn't spend time worrying about his money and the toilet. That's his problem and anyway, it's doubtful he'll be back.

Nothing has changed in the past eight months, that's the problem and you just don't know it. blakespear is still forcing the public to swallow her vision for Encinitas on a variety of unpopular projects and she's still relying on her expert staff to inform her decisions.

So by all means, hang on to your 85% like a security blanket - for what it's worth.

She is paid at max salary.
From the salary list the council will approve tonight - Classification 89 - Development Services Director with 10 steps in the classification - step 10 salary =
$191,954(without benefits). A "good" city manager takes care of her employees and herself. A dumb city council pays and pays taxpayer money. Gush, gush, and more gush from the council on what a great job the planners and engineers above $100,000 salary are doing for the council. Encinitas, another city of Bell or Inglewood.
