  3. Remember when gay meant happy? Hey fakespear, What's next?
Black Panther flags? You people are correct, these clowns need to be recalled or at least voted out. This is unacceptable.

  4. I believe Joe Mosca talked the Mayor into putting the gay flag up (not that there's anything wrong with the gay flag and what it stands for). Blakespear supported the commissioner that did not stand for allegance to our flag and is now encouraging adding another flag to the flag pole. I hope she as least doesn't replace the American Flag with the Rainbow Flag, that wouldn't be cool!

  5. The gay flag stands for a sexual preference.

  7. Instead of the Black Panther Flag let's hoist the Pink Panther Flag. Flakesphere and Moscow, that is the peoples flagpole not your personal agenda pole you leftist hacks. Quit trying to poison our childrens minds with your 4.5 percent of the population bee ess.
I don't care what you put in your mouth but stop trying to jam it into ours. Why is it that everything the left does fails?

  8. I think it was 1940 when gay meant happy, before the integration of the armed forces, before equal rights, before stonewall, before 18 year olds could vote.

  9. I’m glad you old bigots will be dead soon. The world is becoming a better place, as young people know that the historical discrimination and violence against the LGBTQ community was a stain on our country.

The flying of this flag simply means such discrimination and violence will no longer be tolerated, and that all people are welcome here.

If it upsets you, then you are an anachronism. Soon you’ll be gone already by with your hatred, and the world will be a better place.

    1. There is something odd about centering one's identity around their sexaul preferences. That is but a fraction of what comprises the human personality composite. Let's also fly the heterosexual flag then, if that is now the norm.

      Delete
    2. I am neither old, nor a bigot, yet I believe that the
American and California flag represent 100% of us while the pride flag clearly does not. If wishing people who don't agree with you dead is the answer then I would argue you are the one with intolerance and hatred in your heart, not those whom disagree with the flag being raised because it does not represent them.

The issue becomes if that flag is to be flown during pride month, where is our community expected to draw the line? Should we be flying a confederate flag to help represent that faction of our community or the Mexican flag to represent the Mexican nationals living in our community?

This really is nothing more than a publicity stunt to garnish attention from the media from those in office

      Delete
    3. I'm surprised they didn't put it above the American flag.

12:42, this has nothing to do with bigotry as that is always the go to move of the America hating left, name calling.
This has to do with a knucklehead/s using publicly owned property to further the homosexual agenda. They don't have the right. The tax payers own that flagpole, that is not the personal flagpole of people in office, GET IT?. Where is the U.S Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine flags????
Ya', I thought so. The left, always on the wrong side

      Delete
    4. I didn’t wish anyone dead. I merely observed that the world will be better when the old bigots stop breathing and young people who have a better world view stay on.

2:43, perhaps one’s sexual orientation should be less important as a defining characteristic, but when it’s the characteristic that others can still legally use to take away your job or your home, then it’s pretty important. Someday when it can no longer be used to deny a person services, medical care, the right to serve one’s country, or the ability to adopt children, then maybe you have a point.

But as long as it’s a characteristic that can get you physically beaten or killed, then you are still full of shit.

  10. A 2017 Gallup pole concluded 4.5% of adult Americans identify as LGBT. You have been discriminated against, we get it. But being a member of a protected class does not give you the right to represent your class on a taxpayer owned flagpole. It's the wrong venue and it is divisive. As usual in Encinitas, follow the money to the hidden agenda.

    1. 5:24, you are mistaken. LGBTQ is not a federally protected class.

You can be sued for discriminating against people on the basis of sex, race, age or religious beliefs. But in many states you can legally fire a gay person or kick them out of housing because they are gay.

Even here in Southern California a child can be denied admittance to a school because the child’s parents are gay. The child isn’t gay, and has no control over that. This recently happened to an Encinitas City Council member’s kid.

The flag is a symbol that there is more work to do to achieve equality, and that everyone is welcome here.

I’m not LGBTQ, but have family members who are, and fully support the symbolic gesture. And there are far more people in this town who agree with me, than old angry bigots waiting for death.

    2. Funny how you forgot to mention that was a Christian school. Christians schools have a right to follow the scriptures and disallow two men who sodomize each other's anuses to not be included in their school. You also forgot to mention that the article was written by an Asian woman that along with these two sodomizers, despises traditinal Christian culture and you also forgot to mention that Mosca's sodomizer partner is an evil sociopath he'll bent on doing everything in his power to undermine and destroy traditinal Christian institutions...like Santa Fe Christian, the school that you conveniently left out of your 'hit piece comment. I feel for you and your likely poor relationship with your dad (often the culprit in gayness). Seek a higher powe in order to heal and to love yourself. All gays learn to hate themselves and others but a lord can help.

  11. How tall a flagpole would we need to fly a flag representing every minority or special interest group? There is far, far too much attention paid to the LGBTQ "community." It's the cause du jour. The attention will fade, then there will be a new cause du jour and so on and so on.

    1. The reason there are "communities" of gay, black brown, etc, is because of historic marginalization of these groups. Cops used to go into gay bars just to let off a little steam by randomly beating the crap out of people. This did not change until groups were formed to combat this crap. It's still happening ,particularly to black people. As a straight white man I have no problem with the city showing any of these groups some gravitas. It is a gesture of respect from those of us that have become civilized.

    2. The bible is very clear and the American psychiatric association until 1980 are both very clear,
sex with another mans anus is an emotional illness. There's a reason that less than 2% of the population practices these degenerate and sinful acts that belong in the closet where they has always belonged. What Americans do not seem to understand as the very people that despise Jesus Christ have forced gay marriage on our traditional culture by working overtime to normalize it with their owned media, political and judicial control. These are the same people that bring us degenerate anal pornography to further undermine our culure and gain complete control over those that fall prey. These people are all over Encinitas and represent less than 2% of the US population and made Encinitas remove the name of 'Christmas' and 'Easter' from our parade and egg hunt (because they despise Jesus Christ and Christians).

  16. 1:56PM Oh you are so right. Cops just don't pick on black people, they do stuff that is a lot more fun. I played in a lot of Orange County bars in the 70s', especially the dyke bars because I was in an all woman band. The police would routinely march into the bar, strut up and down the place looking for someone to mess with. They'd go out in the parking lot and write down all the license numbers. Then, after hours, they would target women driving alone, and pull them over and without fail threaten a DUI unless they got a blow job. I heard about this dozens of times and watched as women wept while telling the story. This is why gay people need a flag. And there will always be people like you, 1:56 PM, that thrive on hate. Especially when that closet door is a little too tight to open. BTW blacks still have lousy voting rights. Why do you think people in black communities had to stand in line for up to 8 hours to vote in the last 2 elections. Oh that's right, you didn't hear it on Fox News.

  18. I don't recall seeing a separate flag being flown at city hall during the month of February which is black history month, should we expect to see one next year? How many people in this country still live at poverty level? How many kids are being trafficked through the foster care system or go to bed hungry every night? How many people go decades without healthcare because they can't afford it? Why are so many or our vets homeless and committing suicide at an average of 22/day? Why are we always flooded with news about LGBTQ rights despite the fact this group only represents a tiny fraction of the US population?

    ReplyDelete
  19. The LGBTQ is always all about "adversity" until they get into a position of power or authority at which point they show their true colors which is straight up fascism. I have been discriminated against by gay and straight males just for the fact that I am female, so please don't act like everyone who belongs to the LGBTQ community has the attitude of "equality and all are welcome". I have noticed there are men who are gay because they love men and others because they hate women.

    ReplyDelete

    1. 3:34,

Even if we take your story at face value, your argument boils down to: “one gay person discriminated against me, therefore I oppose equal rights for all LGBTQ people.”

Does that make sense to you?

It’s like opposing civil rights for African Americans because a black person was mean to you.

As a woman who has felt the sting of discrimination, surely you can agree that the negative actions of any one woman can’t discredit the need for equal pay for all women. Both women and LGBTQ have also had a raw deal generally in America. But support for equality for one group does nothing to diminish the struggle of another.

Speaking as one who supports the LGBTQ community, there are many other issues that most Encinitas residents agree with such as protecting open space, following the spirit of Prop A, and our city council and city staff listening to and respecting residents who live here. We pay their wages. I wish that they would focus on their obligations to resident taxpayers instead of looking for photo ops.

    1. I can't disagree with you 8:18. Marginalizing our residents' voices by gutting the Citizen Participation Program to make it easier for developers and staff to work in secret is an example of this. So since they are getting rid of staff duties, they are going to eliminate planning jobs, right? In a functioning organization, this is what would happen.

I know that these opinions are not representative of the majority of residents of this town that I love... but it's very disappointing nonetheless.

For those that lurk on this blog: Many of the truly toxic comments on other topics are coming from this same group. So many nasty or hateful zingers about the city council and other local leaders giving their lives to public service being "on the take" or engaged in conspiracies or lazy or stupid or puppets of developers... there is a tendency to assume the absolute worst in people. Couple this with the closing of city hall From Dec. 24 through Jan. 1, and residents are left without means to immediately contact departments and city officials.

The schedule is 7 am to 6 pm now. It will be 7:30 am to 5:30 pm M-Th and closing at 4:30 pm on the alternate Fridays beginning July 1.

    Here is the city notice:
The new City Hall customer service hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every Friday. “I think it is important that we take a moment to celebrate June and LGBTQ+ pride month,” said Councilman Joe Mosca, who approached the city with the idea of waving the flag. Mosca is the city’s first openly gay councilman.

“Part of this is personal — as a gay man with adopted kids, I benefited in a big way from the leadership in the past and am keenly aware of that and my responsibility to continue the advancement of equality,” Mosca said.
