Crista Curtis on Coronabullies

Union-Tribune commentary:
I was personally characterized as a selfish, shallow person, impatient to return to beach sunbathing, and angry about the inability to get my hair and nails done — nothing could be further from the truth. Some of these “virtue signalers” even contacted former employers and my church fellowship in an attempt to destroy my livelihood and reputation.

My closest friends own salons and are hairdressers, estheticians and personal fitness trainers, and they have been the most severely impacted and the focus of the news today. They and many of the local business owners I have talked with are afraid to speak out for fear of similar retaliation by people attempting to destroy their livelihood or governmental regulatory agencies punishing their businesses.

These people have families and bills, and can’t risk arrest. It’s distressing to think some may not have a place to go back to work. This should spur every American into action. Join a rally and demand the reopening of our state.

  1. Ms. Curtis has the right to risk her life and well-being, but she does not have the right to spread the risk to others.

    1. How about those who go to a bar and have a few drinks, smoke or vape next to you, drive over the speed limit, etc. Do they have the right to spread risk to others? Get real! It's easy for you to tell others what to do when your living in your fancy home. It's somewhat distrubing to see who are rick (who are very rich and not going paycheck to paycheck) to tell others what to do.

    4. Well, no, 2:30 AM. People who have too many drinks, smoke or vape next to others, drive over the speed limit, etc. don't have the right to spread risk to others. That's why there and laws against those acts and punishments for committing them.

Do you really not understand the problem with endangering others?

  2. Take your complaints to the Orange Moron Trump. In 2017, he cut the taxes of corporations and the wealthiest people in the USA - by trillions! Now the Republicans claim they can't afford to support the common man - not enough money. and Lindsay Graham says handouts will make the peasants lazy. This chaos is a manifestation of the greed, ignorance and indifference of the selfish people at the top. The bail outs should have started at the bottom and worked up, not the other way around.

    2. I do not care for the orange man or newsome, but I do agree with you. There should be no bailouts.

and if they do, The bail outs should have started at the bottom and worked up, not the other way around.

The biggest threat currently is the collapse of the US dollar which is screaming to a year near you. If they print and give everyone $2,500 in their bank accounts why not just add two zeros and make it $25,000 to each resident. its only one digit. Mexico does it all the time.

Get ready for sky high inflation and the collapse of the US dollar. My prediction is US dollar complete fail by 2015. You better get your house in order.

  3. Crista,

I agree with you that no one should be contacting your church or your employers. Not cool. Really not cool.

But you can't blame others for what **you** have chosen to do to your own reputation through your own actions. You are ignoring the recommendations of epidemiologists so that a few of your friends can get back to work sooner. It really does come across as selfish....

And, as 3:13 PM reminds us, a great deal of money that could have benefitted people whose businesses are now suffering was given away to the wealthiest among us via the TCJA tax cuts. If you support Trump, then what is happening to your friends is kind of on you. And, if you are the ardent capitalist that so many of Trump's supporters proudly and simplistically claim to be, then you should have no trouble with your friends' businesses going bust--just the free market in action....

  4. I agree with 9:15 PM that no one should bother Crista's employer, church, etc. Unfortunately, that does not change my opinion that Crista and the rest of the folks at Free Encinitas are selfish, whiny, and, quite frankly, not that bright. Their understanding of protest, history, the Constitution, law, etc., is (and I am being generous here) at about a fifth-grade level, but they appear to be too dim to even know how little they know and understand. No subtlety or contextualization. Just simplistic grandstanding. Sort of like Trump in that regard....

  7. Crista for City Council!!!!

BlaKespear supports more homeless, crime, higher density, more crowded beaches, more like OC and less like Encinitas. She loves her leaders Newsom's great story to control people to stay home, even though real studies show that staying home increases odds of death by viruses and being out in the sun and fresh area are the best way to help individual's immune system.

She was a big part of all these Encinintas residents and businesses failing and she needs to be held accountable. this if all the harm she did to Encinita's public health. Shame on Blakespear. Her bad decisions costs lives and millions to our citizens.

Get ready for sky high inflation and the collapse of the US dollar. My prediction is US dollar complete fail by 2025. In five years, TP will be worth more than the US dollar.

In 2023, Milk $10/ gallon, gas- $25/gallon, Ave home in Encinitas $30,000,000. Car Wash - $100, Taco from Juanitas - $ 30. Minimum wage - $40 per hour.

You better get your house in order.

    1. You may be right.

Unfortunately, if the dollar crashes, then the Republicans will have gotten exactly what they wanted. Their crazy “Starve the Beast” strategy to cut taxes without any agreement on spending reforms has put the country on rails toward a spiral of unmanageable debt, and inflationary money printing. They’ve been doing it for decades, hoping that the big ugly doesn’t happen until they leave office and someone else can be blamed.

If you don’t pay your bills for decades, bad things happen.

  9. Freedom of speech isn’t freedom from consequences.

I hope everyone keeps finding and contacting her church, her employer, her family. If she’s a real estate agent, as the newspaper said, then I hope her potential future clients google her and ask themselves if they would trust her to follow the standards, ethics, and laws regarding real estate transactions, or if she’s likely to put her own selfish interests before her clients’. I hope every future job interviewer asks if they want the attention-seeking drama, and disrespect for authority in their company.

The first amendment isn’t a shield from the private consequences of speech. It means you have a right to say things, and I have the right not to hire you because your speech reveals things about your character.

  11. Wow !!

It's quite comical reading some of the very conflicted virtue signaling leftists on this here blogosphere.

When you're dealing with fear merchant leftist ideology there is such a large chasm between truth and what they perpetuate it truly is a mental disorder beyond any orders of magnitude that could ever be remedied.

    Pity the fools
