Mayor Blakespear seems to be taking a page from her friend, developer attorney Marco Gonzalez, who famously labeled his political opponents racists.

Thanks for giving me the chance to respond. Narima is exactly right in her summarization.
The city is trying to provide some additional affordable housing. It’s being portrayed as a massive upzoning but it’s really not. It’s about 1800 housing units across 15 sites citywide and we have a total of 25,000 housing units in the city already. As you may recall this plan was ordered by the court after two failed ballot measures and years of litigation. The city literally had absolutely no option. We were given 120 days to adopt a housing plan by the judge. The residents had a lot of input with years of housing meetings and community meetings. The Fox Point farms decision was made by the entire city council, not just me, and that project isn’t even using density bonus. The community seemed to prefer housing to marijuana when both proposals were options.
The reality is that it’s not possible to say no to housing. The question is how to add housing in a way that respects the community character and provides options for lower income, middle income and upper income people. My opponents are anti-homeless, anti-immigrant, anti-BLM, and they are trying to paint me as a radical pro-growth extremist. This is simply not true. We are adding no more, and no less housing than is legally required.
Please feel free to reach out to me directly to talk more if you’d like to. My opponent is a life long Republican who changed her party affiliation in preparation for running for office. Just today I saw that the local pro-gun group was thinking of endorsing her. She’s not in line with any of the progressive values that this party stands for.
I understand how difficult it can be to accept changes that hit so close to home, but I believe that providing some additional housing that helps lower income people have a place to live in the city they call home is the right thing to do.

The developers shrug and say that they don't know anything about it. Why is the Mayor allowed to keep her law license with this type of intentionally misleading information? ReplyDeleteThe new article in the Encinitas Advocate talks about the E4E group as a "grassroots" organization. That information doesn't seem correct when the City Council gave them $10,000 to start the program and another $10,000 for a bus or money to market a bus. Grassroots organizations never have money to start with, but this one is using Encinitas taxfunds and appears to be another taxpayer-funded support group for Blakespear. They can echo her accusations of racism, anti-homeless and elitist Encinitas residents who only use environmentalism as an excuse. Voters in other cities, beware when so many people in her own town dislike her this much. If you disagree with any of her positions or call her on her lies, you may find yourselves accused of being racists, too.

For the mRNA vaccines, 94-95% of vaccinated people will not be hospitalized for severe disease (and thus not die); it's 68-ish % for J&J. That's why the unvaccinated make up over 99% of hospitalized COVID patients. And if vaccinated people didn't wear masks, they could pick up COVID from one idiot anti-vaxxer and spread to another idiot ant-vaxxer...without getting ill themselves. Don't know when the anti-vaxxer/anti-masker crowd will wake up to the fact that THEY are the ones responsible for the deaths, variants, and mandates.
