Decrepit Pacific View will require millions of dollars to fix

 Union-Tribune:

The aging, former elementary school that city officials have talked for years about transforming into an arts, culture and ecology center is going to require a multimillion-dollar renovation before it can be put to use, a city-hired consultant has found.

And, there’s no money immediately available to fund even the cheapest of the four renovation options suggested by the consultant, the city manager told the Encinitas City Council during a special meeting last week.

“Right now, we don’t have a path for funding for this project,” City Manager Pamela Antil stressed.
The City Council, led by Tony Kranz and Lisa Shaffer, borrowed $10 million to buy the abandoned facility in 2014 with the hope that a volunteer group of aging hippies would fix it up for free. The fiasco won Encinitas a Golden Fleece nomination, and the property remains an eyesore more than seven years later.

  3. It actually was a good investment; it is worth much more than the initial purchase price. In addition, the original owner of the land bequeathed it to the children of Encinitas. It's fate should be determined by a public vote.

  4. Thank you Kranz, Barth, Shaffer! All shirked their responsibilities and let the crooked city manager make the deal. Barth seemed to have a thing for the guy and thought walked on water. Whoops!

    1. She sure did have a thing for him! People were urging them to get rid of him the first year, but Barth said he hadn't been given a chance. He was given the chance to buy this property at twice its value using revenue bonds and then lost the ball field to the YMCA. He would edit staff reports to make himself look good, yet his stupidity and council's cost us millions of dollars.

  5. Developer DeWald is prez and "everyone's racist" Mali Woods-Drake is vice prez of the school's board. What could possibly go wrong?

    1. Well, they both seem to have a talent for getting money for themselves. DeWald ran out of money building his Pacific Station and actually has lawsuits on record for not paying people. Barth and the council gave him money out of the affordable housing fund to finish up. Mali seems to be getting money for the Equity Committee and also is getting money for a van to transport people from Foxpoint farms, which has not been built. They seem to have a lot in common since they are both on the take and pose as volunteers for the school.

who think drug addiction is a disease or classes in America hating leftism where buffoons think biden isn't a walking cadaver.
Thast's right...fix it up. What could possibly go wrong
