Blakespear's sudden appreciation for democracy

Coast News op-ed:

Mayor Catherine Blakespear stated in her Jan. 6, 2022, newsletter: “The foundation of democracy is this: eligible people must be able to vote, the votes must be counted and the results must be respected.”

Has anyone noticed the hypocrisy of our mayor? Has Mayor Blakespear “respected” the results of our local elections? (Quoted text below is from her newsletter.)

1. She promoted Measure T that contained clear language that would have removed our Proposition A right to vote on all increases in zoning density and building height that exceeds 30 feet. When Measure T was voted down by the electorate of Encinitas, she doubled down with Measure U.

2. “Our precious democracy is at a tipping point.” The mayor formed a Housing Task Force to develop a new ballot measure. Several citizens put forth ideas that residents of Encinitas would accept. None of those ideas were included. The mayor arbitrarily overrode the Planning Commission’s lower height plan. The new measure contained language that would remove our Prop A rights. Measure U did not pass.

3.“And no matter who wins, we must agree to let the winner hold the seat of power until the next election.” When Measure U failed to pass, it went to the courts. During the trial, the city argued that the citizens of Encinitas would never pass a Housing Element no matter what was presented.

4.“The delegitimizing of our elections leads people to think that violence and physically thwarting the certification process is justifiable in the name of patriotism.” The city failed to defend prop A in court, siding instead with developers in its attempt to help delegitimize Prop A. The judge gave the city council 180 days to put forth a housing plan that would satisfy state requirements, allowing the mayor to set aside our Prop A voting right for one housing cycle. Instead of creating a voter-acceptable plan, she overstepped “the seat of power” (the people) and submitted the failed Measure U to the Housing and Community Development Agency (HCD).

5. “I call on each of us to speak out and demand that our elected officials participate in our democracy with faith to the Constitution.” Has she? The mayor did not stop at just “delegitimizing” two elections. She sued her citizens to permanently remove their voting rights. The mayor claims that she was seeking clarification. But I received notice that the city had filed a suit against the supporters of Prop A, asking the court to permanently set aside our voting right. The mayor later amended that suit to replace us with HCD, a friendlier defendant. The intent was the same: remove our voting rights. Prop A supporters filed as interveners which allowed us to defend our voting rights from this “delegitimizing” attack by the mayor. The decision sided with the citizens, upholding our constitutional right to vote on all up zoning.

6. “My biggest concern is that the delegitimizing of elections that led to this attack will become more coordinated and infiltrate deeper down into our system.” Mayor Blakespear used the word “democracy” 17 times in her newsletter. Either the mayor doesn’t understand the meaning or she has revised its definition. The greatest threat to local democracy, “delegitimizing” our local elections, and restricting voter rights, is Catherine Blakespear.

  3. What's new. We all know BIAspear is 100% virtual signaler nothing more.

Our bleached white virtual signaler- Raised in the whitest of Cardiff's neighborhoods who then went to the heart of Puritan whiteness Salt Lake City Utah to find her perfectly white husband who would take orders from not only her but her amazingly white mommy while living under their wing for the rest of his life.

They had the support to live anywhere with much more diversity and culture, but where did they choose to live and raise their kids? You guessed it, a neighborhood with 100% pure anglo-saxon blood line with whiff's of bleeding heart jews on neighboring streets.

What was their first step? To move in to Mommy's compound on the whitest street in Cardiff where they talk to all their white friends about how terrible it is that people did not mix and have multicultural family, friends, schoolmate, and working mates. All while their brown landscapers, maids, and other servants cared for all their compounds needs.

Do actions speak louder than words?

    Not in BIA's world.

  4. Blakespear is one of the worst people ever to be in City government. She'll do anything to forward the interests of her special interest patrons - the developers. Her mark will stain this city for years to come, if not decades. She needs to be stopped on her quest for higher office - the citizens deserve politicians with integrity, not double-faced hypocrisy.

  5. She has a team of followers from outside of Encinitas who support her lies. Besides all of the developers who fund her, she has attack dogs from other cities who claim that Encinitas residents are anti-homeless because we don't want to become the regional homeless parking lot for homeless from other North County cities. Why don't they volunteer to become the regional homeless parking lot hosts in their own cities? We have Carlsbad residents who claim that people in Encinitas are racists. Do we claim that Carlsbad residents are racists? God, I hope not. Her biggest "achievement" has been to turn neighbor against neighbor and split our city.

  6. She has a team inside Encinitas too. One guy posted on Facebook that residents asked to be sued over Prop A. Imagine handing out that kind of garbage and worse yet having a ready army of useful idiots to repeat it. That's our mayor.

Gonzalez probably invented the story. Not hard to imagine her following Gonzalez off a cliff.

Encinitas Mayor Blakespear Vows to Become the Queen of Spin

“If anybody thinks my recent touting of our city’s Top 10 for 2021 was good spin,” said Encinitas Mayor Catherine Blakespear, “you ain’t seen nuthin’ yet!

“As the District 38 state Senate race heats up, I promise to take credit for not only city events but county too. My unique position as mayor of Encinitas and chairperson of SANDAG lets me grab any event and spin it to pile glory on myself.

“I promise to become the queen of spin. With my many years in government, I’ve honed my spin skills. And now with the help of a professional campaign manager, I’ll be able to take the most gloomy and grim events and spin them into community benefits.

“To be honest and frank for a moment, I thought my Senate run would be tougher. For a while there, it looked as if Lisa Bartlett would be my principal opponent. She’s an experienced politician and skilled at spin. But fate pushed her out of new District 38. So far, my only opponent is Republican Matt Gunderson. He’s a political neophyte and, well, a car salesman! How much luckier could I get?

“Traditionally, Republicans have been the masters of spin. They can convince voters that milk is black and the sky is green. I refuse to yield the field of spin to Republicans. That’s why I’m committed to becoming the queen of spin.

“Watch my newsletters, social media posts, website and planted press releases for my increasingly masterful spin.”

  17. 1:25 - Yup. Hinze is the new NCTD rep. Kranz lead the board to approve blocking coastal access and set the taxpayers up for a totally unnecessary legal fight amongst agencies funded by your tax dollars.

Kranz's legacy is blocking coastal access and paving over paradise.

In the end, after millions of dollars of legal fees paid by you the taxpayer and years of senseless debate and written documents, the Ca Coastal Commission, Del Mar and the citizens of San Diego County will prevail because coastal access is a greater value to the public than a failed old rail road alignment.

  18. OMG! Hinze now presents us with NCTD? Say it isn't so, Joe.

From worst to even more worse. The choices were limited to begin with.

There is not a keeper in the whole bunch.

If there is one effective thing we all can do is sign the petition to align ourselves with other city's fighting the state mandates on density infill.

Our electeds' have repeatedly proven to be compromised and ineffective at defending our community.

I cannot for the life of me imagine what Hinze brings to this appointed position.

There was little real choice to begin with among this bunch of pretenders.

Minimum Wage Workers Can Afford Electric Bike Rides

There’s good news for California minimum wage workers who visit or live in Encinitas!

Encinitas BCycle bike rides cost only $14 per hour. Correspondingly, minimum wage workers earn $14 an hour where there are 25 or fewer employees. Minimum wage is $15 an hour otherwise. With one hour’s pay, members of either group can ride an electric bike for a whole hour. Not only that, those who earn $15 an hour will have a dollar left over!

It’s like manna from heaven. Taxes and other payroll deductions not considered, of course.

The city launched Encinitas BCycle on January 5. There will be 100 docking stations placed in key areas around the city. That means easy access wherever minimum wage earners work.

“We are excited about the launch of Encinitas BCycle – we know a bikeshare program is a great way to provide bikes to more people in an easy and affordable way,” said Crystal Najera, Sustainability Manager for the city of Encinitas. “We see this as an opportunity to allow more Encinitas residents and visitors to try an e-bike, avoid emitting transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions, and help the city meet its Climate Action Plan goals.”

Surely, every Encinitas visitor and resident wants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The BCycle program gives minimum wage workers an affordable way to help.

Cue the mayor's attorney bff calling EG a "keyboard warrior." Oh wait, hasn't his keyboard been taken away?

More poorly thought thru rubbish from the virtue signaling mayor, her mini me Hinze, and council yes-members.

  21. Electric Bikes for clean air...this is a joke...right?
Let me explain. For those of us that live in Encinitas, Don't Look up. On a daily schedule, private planes fly 20 miles up the coast to fly in circles over Encinitas. Over and over and over, pouring toxic waste from their engines over our area.
Call the FAA, they couldn't care less, talk to the Sheriffs Department...sorry. Unsafe as these planes not only pour waste over our heads but it is unsafe. Don't think so?
More to come as flying schools out of Montgomery Field is the base for these flight schools. They make money and put your family at risk flying over and over in circles over 10's of thousands of people and their homes.
By the way, on average, a 1000 private planes crash in the U.S every year. Tic Toc.

    1. Do you know aviation fuel contains lead? The same lead removed from automotive fuel because it can cause cancers.
The same lead coming out of small plane exhausts over tens of thousands of people as these planes circle over and over Encinitas.

    2. The first name of jerks flying around in circles over and over and over Encintias is Sorbi Aviation out of Montgomery Field. Six times this morning in tight circles over my neighbors house full of kids then they fly back to the are they hide out at, Mongomery Field.
They flew 20 miles up here at 10:00 a.m, poisoning the air and putting the public at risk. Tic Toc
More names coming. They have picked a fight with the wrong Vet.
