New development plans for Captain Keno's, Portofino Crack House

Coast News
At first glance, a boarded-up hotel covered in graffiti along Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas has deteriorated into blight, illicit drug activity and a homeless crash pad since its closure several years ago.

But behind the scenes, an Encinitas developer has purchased Portofino Beach Inn and neighboring Captain Keno’s Restaurant to transform the properties into residential units, office spaces, a restaurant and bar, the latter of which will be named after the longtime Leucadia eatery.

  1. Sounds good and the guy knows how to color inside the lines! No help needed from professional $taff to push bad plans over the finish line.

  2. Captain Keno's was a symbol of the earlier era, where the surf town was quaint and people knew each other. The owner helped many charities and kept his prices low. Sad to see it come to an end.

Its real news not like the paid for shit you get in the other publications that have to pander for Advertising $$$ to Cities and special interests.

Ask $tock$ if anyone reads this blog! Ha! Ah Haaa ha ha!!

    7. Almost all the comments posted here are ignorant and stupid. They're uninformed reactionary opinions. That especially includes you, 7:15. You're too ignorant and stupid to realize how ignorant and stupid you are. On top of that, you're a broken-record, one-trick pony. You post the same stupid shit over and over again. You have little knowledge and no imagination. You sully this blog. Get a brain, you moron!

  5. Eric Gilmer and his Swell Properties were an absolute failure in managing the Portofino property.

They let it become a shooting gallery and crash pad for the homeless and drug addicts.

The neighbors had to deal with this condition, while Swell did nada and allowed it become what we all saw in some of the latest photos. Put the blame where it belongs.

Another point is that Eric/Swell had plenty of money to keep on buying properties all around our town, and yet, did nothing to consider the neighbors who were most affected by their lack of responsibility over managing the Portofino Property.

Nice work Eric. Screw them for screwing over the neighbors.

Hopefully the new owner will show some responsibility over the properties he now owns. Good damn riddance to you Eric and your moneyed partners, at least with this one mismanaged property.
