U-T endorses Joe Kerr over Blakespear

 Union-Tribune:
As vice chair of the Santa Ana Regional Water Quality Control Board and a retired Orange County firefighter, Kerr understands drought and fire fears and conditions better than his opponents, fellow Democrat Encinitas Mayor Catherine Blakespear and Republican small business owner Matt Gunderson. In a district that runs down the coast from Southern Orange County to Mission Beach, Kerr's resume and grasp of the issues is at least the equal of Blakespear's -- and better than Gunderson's.

But Blakespear has three strikes against her. Her vote against a local housing project drew a rare rebuke from the state Attorney General's office, which dinged Encinitas for not following state law on housing construction at a time when it is surely needed in the city. Her term as chair of the San Diego Association of Governmentshas seen the agency plunge into fresh scandal as it pursues ambitious transit plans with unrealistic business plans. And her disdain for critics she illegally blocked on her public Facebook accounts is troubling: it led to a lawsuit and a formal apology. We see these as warning signs when a fire captain could offer more.

  1. BIA better start printing more propaganda mailers for their failing sycophant Blakespear. Her arrogance, conceit and amateur approach to the political process clearly indicates the Peter Principle is in effect - she can barely pull off her tyrannical approach to City affairs. She surrounds herself with self-appointed cohorts, who distract and distort the real issues facing this community. Now, she is floundering badly and will try anything to salvage her sinking fortunes. Maybe another glossy mailer with Blakespear in her Noah's Ark saving the earth again! It will be refreshing to see her disappear into obscurity,
Vote for Joe Kerr - experienced, balanced and ready to serve the community and not the BIA.

  2. Maybe Blakespear can use the SANDAG credit card to fund a big beer bust to enhance her popularity?

  3. Notice on kerrs website it doesn't show he is a democrat.
Why...what are they ashamed of...never mind, I think I know.
Interesting why anyone would be in that party considering what they have done to America. They hate their own country.

    1. And Blakespear is better? Call it the lesser of 2 evils, if that appeals to your odd logic.

    2. The issue is that Kerr isn't a dem. He's a guy that isn't really committing either way, as long as he can get away with it.

    3. And you're somehow good with Blakespear, 12:12.

    4. I repeat, Kerr isnt a dem. He's coasting, saying as little as possible. I'm not voting for someone with zero political record (other than being a registered as a republican), that has done close to zero campaigning and will voice no position on issues. He isn't a candidate, he's a guy that feels he can squeeze into a middle space by saying nothing.

    5. You are clearly someone who isn’t paying attention. He has come out for local control and against SB9 and SB10. He has worked with state legislatures to get initiatives passed. He points to better control and prevention of wildfires as perhaps the best immediate approach to reducing carbon emissions. Coast news published an excellent and comprehensive interview with him. Check it out.

    7. 12:12...he is a democrat, it reads so in the UT and voting ballot.
Once again, why doesn't he have that intel on his website. Secondly...who in their right mind admits to being a leftist? And no, no blakespear

  4. Anybody with brains knows BIAspear is the worst candidate period. I would vote for the small dog from IE and its master before ever voting for the proven failure of Blakespear. She can take her boy toy with her and her fembot hubby, dictator mommy, and get the hell out of Encinitas.

  5. Blakespear likes to pull up the Cardiff School Deed from 90 years ago that would deprive children of other races attending school. However, what she doesn't tell anyone is that her mother Trisha Smith and Eleanor Musick sued the Cardiff School District which deprived Cardiff children the opportunity to attend school and made money off of harming families to boot. By the way, Catherine lives with her mother some have reported that her mother has transferred the ownership of the property to Catherine. Please don't believe Blakespear when she speaks of compassion. What kind of people sue a grade school and make money at the expense of children. She is 100% out for herself, and she can afford to send her own children to private schools to avoid facing parents who are still upset about the Cardiff school or the Overnight Parking Lot in the Senior Center and next to a middle school.

    1. Her self-centered and tyrannical view of local politics shows a selfish, spoiled attitude that her opinion is the only one that matters. Lying, avoiding or trying to crush critics, and her association with other hypocrites (Gonzales, Mali) clearly indicates she is not fit for higher office. Her constituency is the BIA and her goals are power accumulation.
      Vote for Joe Kerr.

    2. So Blakespear highlights the minority children who may have been denied access to Cardiff Schools 90 years ago, who would have experienced the same treatment in any predominantly white community in our country at that time. However, she will not address the harm that her mother caused ALL Cardiff children and Cardiff taxpayers who suffered so that her mother Tricia Smith and Eleanor Musick could make money off the various lawsuits. No wonder they are all tight friends with Marco! Don't they have sufficient legal skills to make money in other ways?

  7. 7:14am wtf. You obviously support the destruction of our democracy. Autocracy is your party's mantra. Spineless adherence to the most corrupt to ever hold the office of president. Shame on you and anyone who supports republicans until... wait for it... your party's leaders divest themselves entirely from the former daily disgracer in chief. Maybe then you will have some legitimacy.

  10. I'm baffled. Why would anyone admit to being a leftist considering what the left has done to the United States in the last 17 months. And please, do not look behind the curtain of the invasion of illegals (2million) since Alzheimers joey and the fake black took office. What a cluster ----

  11. So another weekend that should’ve been peaceful and enjoyable at a former prime beach community.

    But not in Encinitas.

Fenced off coastal access by councilmember Tony Kranz.

Increased empty polluting trains blaring deafening blasts hundreds of times throughout the day keeping everybody’s nerves on edge and totally eliminating a peaceful sleep every night. Family members looking extremely tired, kids dazed, elderly parents look well affected by their lack of sleep and trying to fight dementia, all family members on edge and fighting with each other with increased domestic violence Cancer sure to increase with this continued stressful status.

Do you want to go to the beach and try and relax?

No. Tony Kranz didn’t do anything to prevent the Beacon speech closure. In fact now it’s closed for no reason. Open up the damn beach.

Wanna take a nice walk along streets. Not in Encinitas . Walk along Vulcan and you’re taking your life in your hands. And don’t think about driving unless if you wanna ruin your cars suspensions and alignment. We used to have nice roads and now they’re the worst in San Diego.

But hey there’s all kinds of ghetto apartments sprouting up around town. I guess that’s a win. Maybe will get the pay higher taxes so that we can attract more homeless from around the world.

Tony Kranz please resign. Voters of Encinitas please let’s get the recall underway.

Tony is by far no way qualified to even be a candidate for Mayor.

TONY is not qualified to be a council member.

    Tony is ruining Encinitas.

    Recall Tony Kranz immediately!!!

  12. I don't live in Leucadia but we had breakfast there yesterday and heard the nosy trains go by. It is indeed terrible and a complete waste to see these mostly empty trains running back and forth wasting fuel and wearing out the trains with no passengers. I get it 8:12

    5. Lorri, you blocked me after you kicked me and my wife off of EV with no explanation or reason. You admitted you had no reason to block me and said you'd reinstate me if I could get the ENow admin to let you back on there. To this day I have no idea who administers that page and have no power to get anything done there. Your blocking of contrary voices on EV has turned it into the useless echo chamber it has now become.

  14. " So Blakespear highlights the minority children who may have been denied access to Cardiff Schools 90 years ago "

The above is very Nina Junkowicz-esque.

The folks have no idea how downright stupid they look to about 95% of the clear thinking planet.

These are the same folks who tell struggling families to go buy an 80K electric vehicle when they cannot feed their families.

Amount of self awareness = zero point zero

They have no idea what ios coming in Nov which is why they're trying to gin up another reason to cheat by mail with 3 trillion mules.

Probably a good idea to get about 1000 people to go take a shit on their porches.

  15. Blakespear is always out for number one and wraps her selfishness abuse of others in the cloak of a person who cares about others. One example is the recent trip she and her husband took to Japan. She released pictures of her and Mr. Blakespear dining with Japanese dignitaries, yet what did Blakespear provide in return? These cultural exchanges are supposed to be about reciprocity. Did she do anything like providing educational opportunities for Japanese students like the former program did? It looked more like another Encinitas taxpayer vacation opportunity so that people who don't know her like we do could kiss her ass. She is vile, and I am ashamed that this is the impression of Americans that they received. Their trip more than likely set Japanese/US relations back for years.

  16. Blakespear shows how pathetically unfit she is for higher office. Disappointed in Levine for giving her a token endorsement. Makes me reconsider voting for him too.

  17. In the same vein, when Notre Dame in Paris had the fire, Blakespear released a photo of her, her husband and their two young children standing in front of this historic site. She expressed sympathy and gratitude that they got to see it before it burnt. What is the real message? Look where we are? Look at what we got to do! You aren't with us. This is the stuff of teenage girl cyber bullying, but the question is if perhaps this one was funded courtesy the Cardiff School District and Cardiff taxpayers who had to pay for her mother's lawsuit against the elementary school. After the lawsuit, Blakespear, investigated getting her kids transferred to the Encinitas Union School District her mother does not pay property tax, and now her kids go to private schools, so they don't have to deal with the stress of the overnight parking lot, which many parents of students at Saint John's and Oakcrest. She is very protective of her own children and is quick to call out her own suffering, but what about other children and their parents who have to deal with the situation that she has created and may not be able to afford private schools like Blakespear's kids.

    1. Add to the list her evasion of property taxes by the transfer of family property to Blakespear's name just in time to avoid Prop 19 inheritance impacts.

At the same time she parrots Mali Woods Drake's E4E wish to get rid of Prop 13 because it's "racist." Could they be more ignorant? No.

    4. ...who gives two sh!ts about a family trip - we should be more concerned that Julie supports the idea of the city paying for a homeless lot in perpetuity as long as it's in any district but her own! Could be yours next! BTW, that was Blakespear's idea.

  19. schools, bars, restaurants, churches, parks, movie theaters, massages, hair salons, stores are all open with no mask requirement or open window requirements or anything.

Everyones is vaccinated with numerous jabbs yet, the horrenous COVID still reigns and shuts down public meeting at City Hall. All while life everywhere else is apparently not effected. Hugh. Interesting?

Our City Hall, closed to public meetings because one thing BIAspear and Kranz hate more than anything is public feedback.

They hate it when people tell them they should not sell out to every developer over residents interests, They hate it went people tell them it makes no sense to allow thousands of new residents and new water meters in Encinitas when the whole southwest is over developed and water is a scarce resource, they hate it when people get pissed that Tony is focused on taking trips overseas with his developer "friends" and then provides free parking to his developer buddies along Vulcan Avenue for their apartments where there should be a nice trail like BIAspear recevied in Cardiff, they hate it when people say their family members are getting ill from all. the senseless noise and pollution from the empty polluting trains spraying spent diesel and dust clouds over our children and neighboring communities and breaking ear drums and causing dementia throughout the City, they hate it when people ask for money to be budgeted for repairing primary beach access over about 20 Karen water coloring club that wants a new $30 million dollar beach front new City Community Center that will sink the City iinto further debt due to the huge long term operational and maintenance costs. But most of all they hate:

    1. People requesting that they address the hazardous conditions they created by removing perfectly good bike lanes on high speed roadways and puttin in more sharrows guaranteeing more law suits. People are pleading for their lives and BIAspear and Kranz do not want to hear it.

So there we have it. BIAspear and Kranz in an election year when primary votes are being cast, these two losers shut down public comments at City Hall.

    Criminal? maybe- pathetic clearly!
