Resort hotel wins approval for new development next door

 Union-Trib:

The developer of the luxury Alila Marea Beach Resort won Encinitas Planning Commission approval Thursday for a project next door that will include apartments, hotel rooms and restaurants.

[...]

The 3.79-acre project site, which is just south of the hotel on N. Coast Highway, is proposed to contain 94 apartments, of which 19 will be set aside for low-income people. There’s also a 34-unit hotel that will be connected via bridge to the existing Alila Marea Resort. Some of the apartments will be built over a parking structure, others will be above commercial space. Jackel said the commercial areas could contain everything from an ice cream shop to high-end restaurants.

  1. Where are the hypocritical SurfRiders Association? Apparently mega-development along the coast is A-OK. They have conniption fits over sea walls for private property, but corporate cluttering of the beach is acceptable. Phony organization!

  3. 1058 – yes. Yeah surf riders get against opposing privacy walls but they support and CTD and SANDAG completely building a seawall along all of the Delmar coastline and don’t say anything about NCTD fencing complete coastal access through Lucadia.

Total hypocrites and Tony Kranz sucks!!!

Tony Kranz lead NCTD’s effort defense the entire coastline. He was so bad that he fired himself last December as NCTD chair. Pathetic!!

  4. Now I see a bunch of old people and young people having to climb over the fence to get through Leucadia. Injuries are going to be on the major upswing and I hope people sue the shit out of Tony Kranz.

People oppose about building fences along our border yet Tony Kranz builds fences within our own city blocking us from the coastline. WTF?

    2. Illegally?. That’s a stretch. NCTD is an authority that’s managed by a public agency. Public is the keyword. Public rights should be maintained. This is the first time in thousands of years that pedestrian pathways to the beach have been blocked due to a human decision to block these historical pathways from our ancestors.

In the end the fools at NCTD will relinquish to the public good.

The benefits of historical access to the beach far outweigh any perceived benefit of the empty diesel burning pollution human mower with low ridership other than the Grim Reaper.

He was supposed to implement a grade seperated crossing at Leucadia blvd. well before a thousand train blast started killing everyone near the rail alignment.

  12. The high density housing element is nothing more than a successful conclusion by the developers' political lobbies to overrule local growth control. The lackeys like Blakespear do the clean up work by suing the citizens' that dare put initiatives on the ballot to control growth and maintain the livability of their communities. Despite resource shhortages and infrastructure overload, the developers then jam in mega high rise dumps that permanently alter the landscape. Notice that Speedy G is representing the hotel development - the humble man of the people. Now he is fighting with local tradesmen for job access to the hotel mega mess on the beach.

  14. Environmental issues might be able to slow the growth on health and welfare issues. Given a mega drought, how can massive development be rationalized? There then should be no water rate increases or rationing of water - that should be written into the development permits. Traffic mitigation is a consideration - cars idling for 45 minutes to go 3 blocks to the freeway adds to air pollution, not to mention the mental and economic welfare of those stuck in line. The development where Sunshine Gardens was is a natural water courseway - it will require consideralbe alteration for flood control. The impact on the natural balance of the ecosystem, no matter how slight, must be examined. It empties out at Moonlight Beach, a source of recreation for a huge segement of the population.
Where's Mr. Environment - Speedy G? He sued La Jolla for shooting fireworks over the ocean. I guess there's not a buck to be had here. He's too busy fighting the carpenter's union.

  22. 11:39- you’re the exact type of idiot that the health industries focused on. Clearly you don’t understand the referenced video.

Those referenced 1 million US and 6.3 million We’re gonna die from something that was not reported. People die every day all around the world.

The point is is the US was paying hospitals and saying that if any test showed someone had Covid which The test results were very questionable to begin with, than that person was listed with Covid and the cause of death was COVID.

So if you look at the related other causes of death during Covid. You have a tremendous reduction in all the other causes of deaths. Heart attacks were down, cancer is down, everything but Cove was down.

The net result was no increased deaths around the world. Instead the world population dramatically increased.

During Europe’s Spanish flue/ plague One and three people died. 1/3 or 33.333%

During our Covid pandemic- with all of the other deadly causes of death with Covid the fatality rate is 300/100,00 or 00.30%

    https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/mortality

Yeah. I would call that a hoax. If you don’t you’ve cut your head up your ass!

  25. This says it all-

It is unknown how many people were infected during the Black Death and 1520s smallpox outbreaks. An estimated 500 million people (1 in 3 worldwide) were infected with Spanish flu and 1–3% of the global population died from the disease (5). Thus far, 75.1 million people have been confirmed to have COVID-19 (~1 in 104), killing 0.02% of the global population (7).

Disease susceptibility and immunological naivety influence the outcome of pandemic disease events. Both plague and smallpox are highly infectious and affect people of all ages, though smallpox exhibits a significantly higher mortality rate amongst children compared to adults (9). Spanish flu had severe impacts amongst the otherwise healthy 15–40 age group while also affecting typically high-risk groups (23). COVID-19 is different; it has a low attack rate (29) and severe clinical disease occurs mainly in the old and those with pre-existing health conditions (11).

If by "shows up to meet with people" you mean pushing his wife out in front to work the room and hand out her business cards then that doesn't count. Neither does drinking with a patron or two at our local dives.

  50. It’s true that Mali and Garvin are newcomers on the scene. Ohh, and you forgot to mention New Yorker Newcomer Cindy Cremona who somehow thinks she’s equipped to be Mayor. As if Cindy can handle Mali, Marco, Garvin, etc. Not! As far as Jeff Morris goes, you’re sadly misinformed. He’s the only long time resident of the bunch. He’s also raised his family here. His three children have all grown up to be fine human beings. He’s also the only one with pure motives of Saving Encinitas.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Regarding the people above you enquired about as to who is paying their bills: With the exception of Mali, they are all retirement or close to retirement age. So I don’t expect they need anyone to pay their bills. Mali is the only youngster of the group. Despite her whining at a city counsel meeting a while back about how we need affordable housing and she and her boyfriend would never be able to own a home in Encinitas, they bought one in Fox Pt Farms only a few mnths after her infamous fake sob story. Turns out her shackup boyfriend is a well paid L.A. Fireman. And I’m sure you’re aware that organizations like BLM and SEIU both of which Mali was working for when she arrived send volatile people like her around the country to create problems like she did w/her protests in Encinitas, Csbd and the San Dieguito school board meetings. Mali colluded w/now fired Superintendent Dr Ward in pushing to get CRT in the schools. Garvin divorced his E.Coast wife before he moved out here, but has a gf now. Garvin though volatile like Mali doesn’t come close to her frequent outbursts. His big claim to fame for volatile behavior is the assault charge against him by his daughter resulting in a court case. This could explain in part why he left the E.Coast for a new start. But perhaps there’s a business angle involved too? Just as Mali was sent to Encinitas by organization/s, perhaps an organization sent Garvin here to mess w/Encinitas and to campaign for Tony? Garvin seems all too invested in local politics for someone who just moved here. Cindy is so silent and sneaky that she doesn’t seem like she can be trusted. No one including Cindy seems to have a good answer as to why Cindy moved here including Cindy. Tony is a weak befuddled follower who almost seems apologetic for it, but at least we all know what he’s up to. Whereas New arrival New Yorker Cindy is a complete enigma who like Mali is also living w/a shack up boyfriend. Not too much in the way of stability going on w/any of these people who are lacking the solid foundation of a family. And if Cindy can’t even show up for a low key debate with the other 3 candidates, how can we count on her for any heavy lifting. Silent Cindy reminds me of Hide-in Biden when he was afraid to come out of his basement and talk. And w/good reason. Look at him when he does talk. If Cindy can’t handle things this far, she’ll surely hide if Marco is anywhere. And he is! He has his hands in every big building project around town. Jeff Morris is a long time resident and family man who has stood the test of time and stayed the course in his mission to protect Encinitas. He’s looking better all the time next to these deceptive, unstable, newcomers on the scene.
