A 44-year-old man was killed Friday afternoon while lying near some bushes in an Encinitas parking lot when the driver of an SUV plowed through the shrubbery and struck him, authorities said.
It happened just before 3:45 p.m. in the parking lot of Enterprise Bank & Trust on North El Camino Real about a half-mile north of Encinitas Boulevard, according to San Diego sheriff’s Lt. David Collins.
Sheriff’s officials said the victim was lying on some grass on an embankment that was below and out of sight of the parking lot when he was struck. He died at the scene.
It was unclear why the SUV’s driver, a 61-year-old woman, drove over the curb and through the bushes.
Sheriff’s officials initially said deputies arrested her on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. But a news release several hours after the crash said investigators had not “yet determined if alcohol or drugs were a factor.”

The San Diego Coaster train is at a major crossroads due to the requirement that the train be moved off a 2 mile stretch of track on the Del Mar bluffs that are unstable due to accelerating cliff erosion. The proposed rerouting of the train via a tunnel under Del Mar is a massive multibillion dollar risk that is unwarranted given the train's small ridership and the disruptive transportation technologies that are set to make the train even more obsolete in the near future.

DeleteGoing back to local candidates, there is only 1 candidate I would vote for regarding the Mayor position. And that is Cindy Cremona. She has stayed out of the fray deliberately, as all of us know how FB can get. Instead she is going out and about to different organizations, people, and places that affect Encinitas. She does have a campaign page so she is on FB, but she was not willing to go to the American Legion function, as it was run by people who want Kranz. Yes, they had Morris, who has no ideas about much of anything except there is a homeless problem (which anyone who lives here already knows) and Bolbe (who I have never heard of and also has no idea what is going on in Encinitas. Kranz and his wife did go to Israel on Jewish Family Services money, and he never recused himself on anything related to Leichtag, which is under the umbrella of JFS. On his own FB page at the time, he pontificated on the Palestine and Israel situation, almost as if he had the answers. Given that the situation has been going on for a very long time, I laughed. Anyway, enough of my own pontificating. I am voting for Cindy Cremona for Mayor, Julie Thunder for D3 and if I could I would vote for Bruce Ehlers for D4.

Kranz appointed Mali Woods-Drake to the SANDAG outreach team and other positions of influence and called her a "wonderful person." Very arguably an outsider, she's in the D1 district. This is no coincidence and this plan to appoint her may go way back.
