This is Lorri: Fact- I am 75 not 80 but I do have health issues, which is why I unfortunately had to leave the senior commission. The kids get dragged in the middle of it, and are often removed from the home; or I have known kids who were in the hospital once a month for things their parents did to them. I worked with men that batter women for 25 years and most all of them were narcissistic; felt it was OK to hit a woman; usually didn't get into fist fights with men; and often violent. When I worked at the Battered Woman's Shelter I worked mostly with the men. It was suggested I get a gun and keep it in my desk. There was also an armed guard outside the office. Fortunately I never had to use the gun. What messes up kids is their parents constantly fighting, blaming their behavior on others, their parents telling them it's OK to hit someone or say things that are not true about another person, even though the kids have no idea if it's true or not. I’ve read through the thread and it’s not a pretty one. Everyone attacking everyone. Lorrie Greene, Marco Gonzalez, Jeff Morris, Tony Kranz, you name it.
Here’s what I’d personally like to say. Move on if you don’t wanna read, because this is going to be a long post. You might be reading until midnight.
I like Lorrie Greene, we’ve had a few ups and downs, arguments on Encinitas Votes, I even left EV for 6 months in 2021 and then came back. I haven’t been on EV since the November elections and it feels good. Hope I’m not offending you Lorri
I respect Lorri. I respect her courage to run a page that has become so controversial amongst city council advocates. She’s constantly getting attacked and somehow she keeps moving forward through so much adversity. She’s taking a huge hammering from people that don’t want to hear any opposing views. That’s sad. I admire and respect her strength in upholding the people’s right to speak openly. She’s fighting for what she believes in. She’s fighting for something that I personally see slipping away from all of us. Free speech. I wish I possessed a fraction of her strength.
With regard to Jeff Morris, I’d like to see what the courts decide before I jump to conclusions. What happened on Christmas is very unfortunate. I hope the statements being made about Jeff Morris aren’t true. I think he was under a lot of stress and possibly snapped, but let’s hope that he didn’t hit anyone. I certainly hope they as family can work this mess out. I think when he ran he honestly believed that what he was doing was the right thing for the community. Contrary to what others may think. It’s too bad what happened and I hope everything works out for him and his family.
With regard to Tony Kranz, he won the election and he won it fair and square. It is what it is. Let’s see how he does. He might be a good Mayor. With regard to Marco Gonzalez, I’m not a fan of Marco and he certainly isn’t a fan of mine. We butted heads quite a bit in 2020 and 2021. As I recall it was usually always about Blakespear, and maybe a sprinkle of Kranz at times. Do I like Marco’s political and policy views? Sometimes, but mostly no. But he doesn’t like mine either and frankly a lot of people probably don’t like my political views, but they’re mine. Just like his views are his.
Do I hold ill personal feelings about anyone on this page or other pages? NO. I think Everyone of us deep down inside believes that we are making a difference, that we are making the best choices and that we are thinking of others while making our choices. Hard to believe but I think people are inherently good people. It kills me to say this but yes even Blakespear.
Unfortunately we as people don’t always make the best choices. I’ve certainly made a lot of bad ones in my life, hopefully I’ve learned from some of them. Second, I didn’t hightail up to Oregon, my wife and I bought a oceanfront home in Oregon in August of 2018 and our plan was always to move up here in 2019, which we did, well before all the drama with the City Parks Director and Blakespear. I’ve always loved Oregon, half my time in college was spent at the U of O.
I didn’t run from anything. Quite the contrary, if you recall I went after Blakespear, filing a cease and desist order against her for infringing on the residents first Amendment rights. I opened public forum and digital town square on her social media platforms, so people like you wouldn’t have their comments deleted and be blocked from her official page. That’s hardly hightailing up to Oregon. You wanna talk about my integrity? Bring it on, what do you have to say??? You think being placed last on the agenda at midnight, like Bruce Ehlers, you think Council was gonna side with us? No we were done. I wasn’t about to waste a room full of people speaking on our behalf, there time on circus council meeting that was gonna vote NO on us no matter what. It would’ve been no difference then what they did to Bruce Ehlers. Am I still upset, of course, but I’m also very happy that I’m done with all of that and have much more freedom now. My wife thinks it was a blessing in disguise.
With regard to Kranz, my comment stands, Tony Kranz won the election fair and square. He did. It might have very well been different if it was one person running against him, but that didn’t happen.
Am I disappointed that TK won, of course I am. I would’ve loved to have seen Julie Thunder run against Tony Kranz, I think she would have had a great shot and been a damn good Mayor, but unfortunately she didn’t run against TK. That’s life!
Try to be optimistic here, let’s hope that Tony does some things that we desperately need in Encinitas. 1. Road repair. 2. Flood control in Leucadia around Hymettus and Hygeia, etc. 3. Fixing up PV for the residents to enjoy. 4. Working on a better ingress and egress plan for Rancho Santa Fe, hopefully Bruce Ehlers will help out with that. (Hopefully Bruce runs for Mayor next time around). 5. Ease up on the stack and pack building and quid pro quo with the developers. 6. Start budgeting so we can grow a nice surplus, maybe then we can pay PV off and not have to spend $600K a year on the mortgage. The list goes on and on of things I’d personally like to see happen in Encinitas, I know there’s a lot I’m forgetting. In short, if you have a better plan then act on it, but yelling at me isn’t gonna do anything.
With that said and for full disclosure, I’m not currently a voting resident of Encinitas, so what I have to say means nothing. When my wife and I to return to Encinitas, maybe this year, hopefully this year, I’ll get more involved. I’m currently soaking wet and freezing up here in Oregon, so I’m ready when my wife is. I miss our beautiful Encinitas.

I’ve met Julie Thunder twice in my life. Once with Susan Turney, Alex Riley and Dean Turney. We had some drinks and they asked my wife and I about marketing for their campaign. The second time I met Julie was at the Seaside Market where she and another gentleman asked about how to put on a beach walk and if I had suggestions. Other than that the only communication I’ve done with Julie is on Facebook via EV. I know Bruce Ehlers better than I do Julie Thunder. Bruce is a super guy, he’ll make a great councilman and hopefully Mayor in two years.
No, I’m not that familiar with everything you’re saying about Julie Thunder, nor do I know if it’s true. Just because you insist on something doesn’t make it true.
I do know that Thunder attended and helped out at a couple of our special needs surf camps and that was really cool, none of the other candidates did that. She has a sister with Down Syndrome whom she helps look after and I think she does a great job based on that DM conversation we had.
I don’t know about all the Garvin, Julie and Tony, and whoever, etc allegations. Or even if that’s true or a conspiracy theory. No, I’m not gonna ask Julie if all that stuff is true. I do know that Julie has always been nice interacting with me and I think she would have been a good Mayor, that’s my personal opinion. She garnered 45% of the votes in the election against Blakespear, during COVID, and I think she would have done better then that against Kranz. Cremona and Morris each obtained around 20 something percent.
Do I think Cremona would have been a great mayor? Absolutely. I would have loved to have seen Cindy win, I like Cindy a lot. She’s tough, fair, and very pragmatic. I hope she run again. Unfortunately there were too many people running and that split up the votes.
I really wish Susan Turney would have won in 2020, she would have been a fantastic councilwoman. I campaigned for her, door to door in my neighborhood. Unfortunately COVID was tough year to run for any opposition.
In short, the election is over, Kranz, Blakespear and Joy won, that’s just the way it goes. Let’s hope that council will appoint someone who will help balance things out a bit, Alex Riley or maybe this Scott guy would be great. I’m in favor of a special election, but we know that probably won’t happen. And we also know that Joy, Tony and Kellie will probably appoint someone who will be an easy YES vote. It is what it is. Sucks but what can do about it, type out how unfair it is on EU, EV, etc? What’s that gonna do?
8:58 this is Bob Nichols. I think a special election would be the democratic thing to do. Let the residents choose who they want as a D1 Councilmember. So what if it costs $250K (approx) it’s worth it, to uphold democracy. 250K is not a lot of money for this city and that seems to be the excuse I’m hearing. Our council spends significantly more money on that for much smaller and less significant ticket items. Such as individual outside studies and reports so staff can make recommendations to council. So the “it’s too expensive” excuse doesn’t fly.
Kranz is coming from D1 and that’s the district seat we need to fill. So, shouldn’t we just have D1 residents vote instead of the entire city, wouldn’t that be a lot less expensive then the 250K? Also from what I understand, if we did mail in ballots it would be a fraction of the 250K. So if the big complaint is the expense, why not do mail in ballots. It’s absolutely worth the investment to insure we have a council member who has the residents best interest.
I think it says a lot about any council member or resident who doesn’t support the people’s right to vote. Kranz has an opportunity to step up to plate and do the right thing, uphold Democracy and let the people vote. Let’s see what happens, but I’m not gonna hold my breath.

I’d guess that more than half the people in Encinitas don’t even know who our Mayor is, and that 90% of the residents couldn’t name all 5 council members. The majority of people aren’t interested.

Thank you for the kind words. Yes, an important city director, now assistant City Manager absolutely did a number on us. We caught her over billing us each year by thousands of dollars, misappropriating our donations to the city’s “General fund” and forcing us into what was later determined to be illegal City of Encinitas MOU’s that dictated specific parts of our Mission Statement. Totally illegal on the city’s part.
Most people don’t know the background, and frankly most people just don’t care. Can’t say I don’t blame people, there’s more interesting stuff happening in Encinitas. The issues that took place between the city and SMOP are lost, buried and forgotten. Probably better that way for everyone.
Initially the way everything played out really upset me, but now I look at how well SMOP is doing and I realize what took place between the city and I was absolutely a blessing in disguise.
The special needs surf camps, art programs, community outreach are all on fire, doing really well. With more and more programming being introduced all helping people and growing. I’m so proud of the TEAM! The Board of Directors are solid, great people and personalities that have amazing skill sets. This board and organization is people accomplish great things in North County and beyond. I can look back and smile with lots of great memories now. I see a long and bright future for Surfing Madonna.
I’m so honored to have had 10 years on that board, watching it grow into what it’s become now. Great memories. Great people from all over the world. The new President, a good close friend of mine, super guy, Mike Redman, is doing a fantastic job as well as Cathy Carey, she’s really helped propel Surfing Madonna. Cathy Carey is a wonderful woman, very talented artist, world renowned and one heck of a leader. So blessed to have Mike and Cathy. Together they are taking SMOP in a direction it has never seen.
Let’s not forget Mark Patterson, none of these great things would be happening if it wasn’t for Mark Patterson. God bless you Mark!
Thank you for the kind words. I’ve known Mark since 1999, he was my best friend. We ran, traveled, ate, laughed and shared good times together. We did everything together. Most people thought we were a couple. I love Mark he is a wonderful human being.
Mark lived with Megan and I for years. Towards the end we happily took care of Mark because we love him and didn’t want to see him go into a care home. We fed, bathed, dressed and tried to make Mark as happy and welcome in our family as we could. We did everything together. My wife and my family loved Mark and loved having him over, Mark was family to them as well.
Unfortunately in 2021 we were no longer qualified to take care of Mark. He needed very special care and we just weren’t qualified anymore.
We found a great memory care facility for Mark, (Pacific View in Bandon, Oregon) about 1 mile from our house and right on the ocean in Oregon. We can visit Mark as often as possible and we surprise visit often.
Mark is now 69, way too young for Dementia. It’s heartbreaking. He can’t even speak, he mumbles, can’t walk anymore, it’s aweful. But every once in awhile he smiles, lights up when we hug or say Surfing Madonna. It’s hard not break down in front of him sometimes, he meant the world to me.
Oregon is a perfect state for Mark to be in a memory care facility. 1. We can visit and check in on Mark often, and often with surprise visits to make sure Marks is being well taken care of. 2. Oregon memory care facilities are about 1/3 of the cost compared to San Diego or Encinitas memory care facilities. Roughly $6,000 in Oregon as opposed to $15-20K in Encinitas. 3. California has a no harboring law for people in care. Meaning when the client runs out of money, (Mark), the care facility can move the client to a state facility (not good for Mark). Oregon on the other hand has to keep paying for the client (Mark) even after he’s run out of money to pay the memory care facility bills. I made sure to make Mark a resident of Oregon so he could qualify for this benefit. Meg and will always make sure Mark is being well looked after. I made Marks brother, Dave, Power of Attorney, he’s a super guy and fiscally responsible. However I am in charge of Marks medical care, and I’ll make sure he gets the best.
It’s so unfair to see someone so young and so full of love, compassion and energy for life and people, suffer from such a horrible disease at such a young age. I can only hope he passes soon, so he can be with this parents.

And you seriously gonna believe a Encinitas city staff report? The city got caught ripping SMOP off that says it all. This wasn’t a simple mistake be a Park Director. The city was over charging them thousands of dollars. This happened repeatedly. The city also was caught misusing their donations, and it sounds like the city was also using some form of extortion, so they’d have to donate to the city. The city staff were the abusive ones here and when they got caught, they screamed abuse. Doesn’t surprise me, look how many times different companies and organizations have complained about an abusive city staff worker.

The kids get dragged in the middle of it, and are often removed from the home; or I have known kids who were in the hospital once a month for things their parents did to them. I worked with men that batter women for 25 years and most all of them were narcissistic; felt it was OK to hit a woman; usually didn't get into fist fights with men; and often violent. When I worked at the Battered Woman's Shelter I worked mostly with the men. It was suggested I get a gun and keep it in my desk. There was also an armed guard outside the office. Fortunately I never had to use the gun. What messes up kids is their parents constantly fighting, blaming their behavior on others, their parents telling them it's OK to hit someone or say things that are not true about another person, even though the kids have no idea if it's true or not. I don't feel sorry for Jeff, as he trashes people daily, but I do feel for his kids. And I am very surprised a 5150 was not done on him a long time ago. I like Lorrie Greene, we’ve had a few ups and downs, arguments on Encinitas Votes, I even left EV for 6 months in 2021 and then came back. I haven’t been on EV since the November elections and it feels good. Hope I’m not offending you Lorri
I respect Lorri. I respect her courage to run a page that has become so controversial amongst city council advocates. She’s constantly getting attacked and somehow she keeps moving forward through so much adversity. She’s taking a huge hammering from people that don’t want to hear any opposing views. That’s sad. I admire and respect her strength in upholding the people’s right to speak openly. She’s fighting for what she believes in. She’s fighting for something that I personally see slipping away from all of us. Free speech. I wish I possessed a fraction of her strength.
With regard to Jeff Morris, I’d like to see what the courts decide before I jump to conclusions. What happened on Christmas is very unfortunate. I hope the statements being made about Jeff Morris aren’t true. I think he was under a lot of stress and possibly snapped, but let’s hope that he didn’t hit anyone. I certainly hope they as family can work this mess out. I think when he ran he honestly believed that what he was doing was the right thing for the community. Contrary to what others may think. It’s too bad what happened and I hope everything works out for him and his family.
With regard to Tony Kranz, he won the election and he won it fair and square. It is what it is. Let’s see how he does. He might be a good Mayor. The opposing side just couldn’t get their act together. Oh well, it happens. There’s always next time. Time to move on. All we can do is see how he does and wait another two years. Like I said, who knows he might not be that bad. We can start by seeing who they appoint. I think the recall effort is bullshit, but if someone wants to go for it, then go for it. Personally I think it’s a bit chicken shit.
With regard to Marco Gonzalez, I’m not a fan of Marco and he certainly isn’t a fan of mine. We butted heads quite a bit in 2020 and 2021. As I recall it was usually always about Blakespear, and maybe a sprinkle of Kranz at times. Do I like Marco’s political and policy views? Sometimes, but mostly no. But he doesn’t like mine either and frankly a lot of people probably don’t like my political views, but they’re mine. Just like his views are his.
Do I hold ill personal feelings about anyone on this page or other pages? NO. I think Everyone of us deep down inside believes that we are making a difference, that we are making the best choices and that we are thinking of others while making our choices. Hard to believe but I think people are inherently good people. It kills me to say this but yes even Blakespear.
Unfortunately we as people don’t always make the best choices. I’ve certainly made a lot of bad ones in my life, hopefully I’ve learned from some of them. But it’s not like anyone of us just tries to make bad decisions. Sorry, I’m going on an on but remember I warned you at the beginning that this would be a long one.
In short let’s make a New Year’s resolution pact and try to tone it down a bit on others personally.

Second, I didn’t hightail up to Oregon, my wife and I bought a oceanfront home in Oregon in August of 2018 and our plan was always to move up here in 2019, which we did, well before all the drama with the City Parks Director and Blakespear. I’ve always loved Oregon, half my time in college was spent at the U of O.
I didn’t run from anything. Quite the contrary, if you recall I went after Blakespear, filing a cease and desist order against her for infringing on the residents first Amendment rights. I opened public forum and digital town square on her social media platforms, so people like you wouldn’t have their comments deleted and be blocked from her official page. That’s hardly hightailing up to Oregon. You wanna talk about my integrity? Bring it on, what do you have to say??? You think being placed last on the agenda at midnight, like Bruce Ehlers, you think Council was gonna side with us? No we were done. I wasn’t about to waste a room full of people speaking on our behalf, there time on circus council meeting that was gonna vote NO on us no matter what. It would’ve been no difference then what they did to Bruce Ehlers. Am I still upset, of course, but I’m also very happy that I’m done with all of that and have much more freedom now. My wife thinks it was a blessing in disguise.
With regard to Kranz, my comment stands, Tony Kranz won the election fair and square. He did. It might have very well been different if it was one person running against him, but that didn’t happen.
Am I disappointed that TK won, of course I am. I would’ve loved to have seen Julie Thunder run against Tony Kranz, I think she would have had a great shot and been a damn good Mayor, but unfortunately she didn’t run against TK. That’s life!
Try to be optimistic here, let’s hope that Tony does some things that we desperately need in Encinitas. 1. Road repair. 2. Flood control in Leucadia around Hymettus and Hygeia, etc. 3. Fixing up PV for the residents to enjoy. 4. Working on a better ingress and egress plan for Rancho Santa Fe, hopefully Bruce Ehlers will help out with that. (Hopefully Bruce runs for Mayor next time around). 5. Ease up on the stack and pack building and quid pro quo with the developers. 6. Start budgeting so we can grow a nice surplus, maybe then we can pay PV off and not have to spend $600K a year on the mortgage. The list goes on and on of things I’d personally like to see happen in Encinitas, I know there’s a lot I’m forgetting. In short, if you have a better plan then act on it, but yelling at me isn’t gonna do anything.
With that said and for full disclosure, I’m not currently a voting resident of Encinitas, so what I have to say means nothing. When my wife and I to return to Encinitas, maybe this year, hopefully this year, I’ll get more involved. I’m currently soaking wet and freezing up here in Oregon, so I’m ready when my wife is. I miss our beautiful Encinitas.

DeleteI’ve met Julie Thunder twice in my life. Once with Susan Turney, Alex Riley and Dean Turney. We had some drinks and they asked my wife and I about marketing for their campaign. The second time I met Julie was at the Seaside Market where she and another gentleman asked about how to put on a beach walk and if I had suggestions. Other than that the only communication I’ve done with Julie is on Facebook via EV. I know Bruce Ehlers better than I do Julie Thunder. Bruce is a super guy, he’ll make a great councilman and hopefully Mayor in two years.
No, I’m not that familiar with everything you’re saying about Julie Thunder, nor do I know if it’s true. Just because you insist on something doesn’t make it true.
I do know that Thunder attended and helped out at a couple of our special needs surf camps and that was really cool, none of the other candidates did that. She has a sister with Down Syndrome whom she helps look after and I think she does a great job based on that DM conversation we had.
I don’t know about all the Garvin, Julie and Tony, and whoever, etc allegations. Or even if that’s true or a conspiracy theory. No, I’m not gonna ask Julie if all that stuff is true. I do know that Julie has always been nice interacting with me and I think she would have been a good Mayor, that’s my personal opinion. She garnered 45% of the votes in the election against Blakespear, during COVID, and I think she would have done better then that against Kranz. Cremona and Morris each obtained around 20 something percent.
Do I think Cremona would have been a great mayor? Absolutely. I would have loved to have seen Cindy win, I like Cindy a lot. She’s tough, fair, and very pragmatic. I hope she run again. Unfortunately there were too many people running and that split up the votes.
I really wish Susan Turney would have won in 2020, she would have been a fantastic councilwoman. I campaigned for her, door to door in my neighborhood. Unfortunately COVID was tough year to run for any opposition.
In short, the election is over, Kranz, Blakespear and Joy won, that’s just the way it goes. Let’s hope that council will appoint someone who will help balance things out a bit, Alex Riley or maybe this Scott guy would be great. I’m in favor of a special election, but we know that probably won’t happen. And we also know that Joy, Tony and Kellie will probably appoint someone who will be an easy YES vote. It is what it is. Sucks but what can do about it, type out how unfair it is on EU, EV, etc? What’s that gonna do?

DeleteI think a special election would be the democratic thing to do. Let the residents choose who they want as a D1 Councilmember. So what if it costs $250K (approx) it’s worth it, to uphold democracy. 250K is not a lot of money for this city and that seems to be the excuse I’m hearing. Our council spends significantly more money on that for much smaller and less significant ticket items. Such as individual outside studies and reports so staff can make recommendations to council. So the “it’s too expensive” excuse doesn’t fly.
Kranz is coming from D1 and that’s the district seat we need to fill. So, shouldn’t we just have D1 residents vote instead of the entire city, wouldn’t that be a lot less expensive then the 250K? Also from what I understand, if we did mail in ballots it would be a fraction of the 250K. So if the big complaint is the expense, why not do mail in ballots. It’s absolutely worth the investment to insure we have a council member who has the residents best interest.
I think it says a lot about any council member or resident who doesn’t support the people’s right to vote. Kranz has an opportunity to step up to plate and do the right thing, uphold Democracy and let the people vote. Let’s see what happens, but I’m not gonna hold my breath.

I’d guess that more than half the people in Encinitas don’t even know who our Mayor is, and that 90% of the residents couldn’t name all 5 council members. The majority of people aren’t interested.
I was one of those statistics when Muir was appointed.
Bob, Semper Fi. I always greeted you with that phrase when we ran across each other for reasons you know. It stands for so much of what you showed in your life while here in Encinitas.

You were not alone in being treated poorly. Look at the organizations and events that chose to leave rather than put up with the bs they were being subjected to.

ReplyDeleteThank you for the kind words. Yes, an important city director, now assistant City Manager absolutely did a number on us. We caught her over billing us each year by thousands of dollars, misappropriating our donations to the city’s “General fund” and forcing us into what was later determined to be illegal City of Encinitas MOU’s that dictated specific parts of our Mission Statement. Totally illegal on the city’s part.
Most people don’t know the background, and frankly most people just don’t care. Can’t say I don’t blame people, there’s more interesting stuff happening in Encinitas. The issues that took place between the city and SMOP are lost, buried and forgotten. Probably better that way for everyone.
Initially the way everything played out really upset me, but now I look at how well SMOP is doing and I realize what took place between the city and I was absolutely a blessing in disguise.
The special needs surf camps, art programs, community outreach are all on fire, doing really well. With more and more programming being introduced all helping people and growing. I’m so proud of the TEAM! The Board of Directors are solid, great people and personalities that have amazing skill sets. This board and organization is people accomplish great things in North County and beyond. I can look back and smile with lots of great memories now. I see a long and bright future for Surfing Madonna.
I’m so honored to have had 10 years on that board, watching it grow into what it’s become now. Great memories. Great people from all over the world. The new President, a good close friend of mine, super guy, Mike Redman, is doing a fantastic job as well as Cathy Carey, she’s really helped propel Surfing Madonna. Cathy Carey is a wonderful woman, very talented artist, world renowned and one heck of a leader. So blessed to have Mike and Cathy. Together they are taking SMOP in a direction it has never seen.
Let’s not forget Mark Patterson, none of these great things would be happening if it wasn’t for Mark Patterson. God bless you Mark!

DeleteThank you for the kind words. I’ve known Mark since 1999, he was my best friend. We ran, traveled, ate, laughed and shared good times together. We did everything together. Most people thought we were a couple. I love Mark he is a wonderful human being.
Mark lived with Megan and I for years. Towards the end we happily took care of Mark because we love him and didn’t want to see him go into a care home. We fed, bathed, dressed and tried to make Mark as happy and welcome in our family as we could. We did everything together. My wife and my family loved Mark and loved having him over, Mark was family to them as well.
Unfortunately in 2021 we were no longer qualified to take care of Mark. He needed very special care and we just weren’t qualified anymore.
We found a great memory care facility for Mark, (Pacific View in Bandon, Oregon) about 1 mile from our house and right on the ocean in Oregon. We can visit Mark as often as possible and we surprise visit often.
Mark is now 69, way too young for Dementia. It’s heartbreaking. He can’t even speak, he mumbles, can’t walk anymore, it’s aweful. But every once in awhile he smiles, lights up when we hug or say Surfing Madonna. It’s hard not break down in front of him sometimes, he meant the world to me.
Oregon is a perfect state for Mark to be in a memory care facility.
1. We can visit and check in on Mark often, and often with surprise visits to make sure Marks is being well taken care of.
2. Oregon memory care facilities are about 1/3 of the cost compared to San Diego or Encinitas memory care facilities. Roughly $6,000 in Oregon as opposed to $15-20K in Encinitas.
3. California has a no harboring law for people in care. Meaning when the client runs out of money, (Mark), the care facility can move the client to a state facility (not good for Mark). Oregon on the other hand has to keep paying for the client (Mark) even after he’s run out of money to pay the memory care facility bills. I made sure to make Mark a resident of Oregon so he could qualify for this benefit. Meg and will always make sure Mark is being well looked after. I made Marks brother, Dave, Power of Attorney, he’s a super guy and fiscally responsible. However I am in charge of Marks medical care, and I’ll make sure he gets the best.
It’s so unfair to see someone so young and so full of love, compassion and energy for life and people, suffer from such a horrible disease at such a young age. I can only hope he passes soon, so he can be with this parents.

Mark is lucky to have you. Music can heal years of mental debilities sometimes for short periods that are remarkable and beyond science to explain. Look at Tonys last concert with Lady Gaga. Inexplicably Miraculous. That is the power that music can have with music in their lives.

DeleteBut his story in no was excuses the unprofessional behavior documented in the staff report that caused major problems at SMOP.
Two things can be true at the same time.
And you seriously gonna believe a Encinitas city staff report? The city got caught ripping SMOP off that says it all. This wasn’t a simple mistake be a Park Director. The city was over charging them thousands of dollars. This happened repeatedly. The city also was caught misusing their donations, and it sounds like the city was also using some form of extortion, so they’d have to donate to the city. The city staff were the abusive ones here and when they got caught, they screamed abuse. Doesn’t surprise me, look how many times different companies and organizations have complained about an abusive city staff worker.

4:55 you sound like someone who has a personal grudge with Bob. Surfing Madonna’s work in the community over the years speaks for itself. Bob was leading that effort. On the other hand how many times have we had problems with our city staff directors and council? it’s a recurring theme these days. Bob got shafted for speaking out about the crimes that were being committed by certain staff and council member. Stuff had no excuse but to cry abuse.

Delete7:27 This is Bob Nichols. Mark was a very talented pianist, he use to play daily. He loved Clair de Lune by Claude de Buddy. I enjoyed listening to him play. He made a lot of people happy with his music, including the local church that he use to play for.
DeleteI’m really happy you suggested music as a possible therapy for Mark. When we visit Mark on Tuesday I’ll bring some music he enjoys and play if for him. What a wonderful idea, thank you. I remember watching a documentary several years ago regarding a study using music with Alzheimer’s and Dementia patients. The music had a profound impact on the patients. Great idea, thank you. Given Mark’s musical background, this will be very interesting to see the outcome.

DeleteYes, my wife and I have a Pre-Columbian and Colonial collection of artifacts. Yes I use to fly various aircraft in and out of Guatemala. Did I use my time in Guatemala to smuggle artifacts? No, that’s ridiculous.
1. Our collection has been on display in various museums in San Diego and at City Hall in Encinitas. If I smuggling artifacts, do you really think I’d share them publicly for all to see?
2. My flying never extended from Guatemala to the USA. If it had the aircraft would have been thoroughly searched by Customs at Brown Field.
3. If I returned via airline from Guate don’t you think LA Customs and Immigration would have found artifacts on me or in my luggage?
4. Our entire collection has provenance, something that all reputable museums want to see before accepting art on loan to display.
I don’t even know why I’m answering your statement. Are you publicly accusing me of committing a crime?

Carlsbad was nearly at the point of recalling their council member Schumacher and we’re going to do the same with Kranz. Kranz has done a lot more harm to Encinitas.
If Kranz was smart, he would resign and recommend the council appoint Brust Ellers as mayor. But we know Kranz is not smart and hence his nickname the Town Dunce.
