Fatal hit and run at 101 and Encinitas Boulevard

 Newsbreak:

Just before 12:30 a.m. Sunday, deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department's North Coastal station and Encinitas Fire Department personnel responded to a crash involving a vehicle and pedestrian on Highway 101 at Encinitas Boulevard, Sgt. Jeremy Collis said.

"A vehicle was driving westbound on Encinitas Boulevard approaching Coast Highway 101 when a man was walking northbound crossing Encinitas Boulevard," Collis said. "The vehicle struck the man then continued westbound onto West B Street and fled the area."

The man was rushed to a hospital with major injuries and later pronounced dead.

The vehicle was described as a dark-colored sedan or van, possibly a Chrysler or Dodge, with damage to the front driver's side, the sergeant said.
It's getting harder to get away with hit-and-run these days, with social media and widespread security cameras. The last one we recall on Encinitas Boulevard in that area got caught, perhaps by a tip from a neighbor.

  3. Is this news? Seems like it happens all the time in Encinitas.

Actions and Elections have consequences. When you elect dunces that invite all lowest forms of life including tweekers to your formally cool family beach town what do you expect?

Daterapes big time downtown, scumbags sleeping, peeing and pooping all over the place and other violent crimes.

Downtown SD wanted to be like big sister LA so they invited the homeless and guess what they came and ruined downtown SD. Everyone and every business wants to leave downtown.

What does our Town Dunce do? Invites them all to Encinitas.

RIP mister. I'm sorry Tony's actions did you in. Our downtown is getting scummier and more unsafe by the day. And just think, this is the beginning of the depression. Give it 2 years.

    1. I wonder how many people will be hit on Vulcan Avenue this year?

That road is a disaster. I hope it's not a kid who dies.

It looks like the City tried to do an abortion on Vulcan Avenue. It's cut-up bad, bloody and barely surviving. Why is that road is such bad shape?

      Delete
    2. Why in such bad shape? Duh, to get everybody out of cars. Good time to open a bike repair business. Maybe in the abandoned Portofino Hotel? How long can the used car lots on 101 hold out before upzoning?

      Delete
    3. Out of cars on Vulcan Ave? That’s nuts!

It’s pretty horrific for cars but if you’re on a bike or a pedestrian on Vulcan Avenue, you’re pretty much dead.

If you do, survive the experience, consider yourself very, very lucky.

That’s TONY’s fingerprints all over it. Fenced off pedestrian access, abortion striping, and potholes galore. Really unfortunate considering it’s right next to the school.

      Delete
    4. Besides the fence blocking pedestrian pathways and the deadly conditions, how about Tony’s conversion of the public rail trail pathway to a private parking lot, drug sales, and a bunch of dump furniture and shit….

With the dunces lack of leadership, the Vulcan area turns more and more like a cesspool every day.

I have friends that live in that area , and I really feel sorry for the neighborhood. It’s really turned into a drug infested cesspool since Tony converted the pathway area to the private parking for the apartments. Sad.

Now Leucadia turned into a sad joke. They seem to support the town dunce. What a complete shit show.

  6. I believe all of our signaled intersections have cams that monitor traffic for situations like this. They are not used to ticket anyone for infractions.

At least these monitors are not used like the redlight cams were that were an approved criminal enterprise designed and manipulated the timing of yellow lights to catch drivers and charge excessive fees. Good riddance to those scam cams. Rant over. I was never a victim of the red-light cams just to clear up any questions of motivation.

The current traffic monitors are a good thing and not in the business of targeting drivers for the big bucks.

  7. New Years TOP FIVE Encinitas council members in history:

1: Catherine Blakespear. Can’t be anyone else. Got a lot done, and was on the winning side of nearly every vote. Brought Encinitas back into compliance with state law. Worked hard to assure strong candidates were in the other four chairs. Undefeated in all elections, and got promoted to a larger role. Future Governor?

2: Maggie Houlihan. Kind, caring person. Lover of animals. Great to see her permanently memorialized at our dog park.

3; Theresa Barth. A wise and mature voice from the dais. Had to put up with abuse from some of the old boys network, but also put them in their place, as they were all defeated after harassing her.

4: Tony Kranz. He literally punched a Nazi. Nuff said.

5: Hinze. A great fit for our humble, earth-conscious, laid back, yoga-infused town.

    All undefeated in elections.

  22. Here’s why the GOAT list is so funny.

Because to dispute it, you’d have to be FOR alternates. But as we all know, EU isn’t about being FOR anything. It’s defined by sadness, negativity, and being AGAINST everything and everyone.

    So it’s a Catch-22.

You either have to accept the GOAT list, or say something positive about someone else who has been on council.

Nobody here wants to do either of those things, so the GOAT list stands uncontested. Unchallenged. It remains the default.

Which eats you alive, but not more than the alternative—saying something nice about alternate council members.

    It’s hilarious.

  33. Regarding the convo about worst Mayors: People are suggesting Pam. It looks like they may be right, and that she was always bad, but just got worse with age. Especially when she made such a poor choice of candidates to support and coach. I agree that she lost any credibility she may have had left.

  35. 12:22 I don’t have an issue with Pam if she was indeed pro Thunder(I didn’t see any evidence of that). Given the predicament we’re in now it’s too bad Cremona bullied Thunder into not running for Mayor. And Pam went along with it. I don’t know what Pam was thinking, or not thinking since Thunder had a much better chance of winning than Cremona ever did. Perhaps Pam was in on the plot to get Kranz elected💁🏽‍♀️

    ReplyDelete

    1. You need your memory jogged. Pam always supported Thunder and vocally trumpeted her support all over SM as well as contributed to both her campaigns. Seems Thunder couldn't win her district let alone her previous Mayor's bid either. Julie bullied? Doubt it. She said herself she was more interested in the district seat because it was an equal vote on council and was a 4 year term.

    2. Pam is like so many others that once upon a time showed some semblance of intelligence and logic. BEFORE they were inflicted with an overwhelming and irrational hatred of Blakespear that now dictates everything they do. They lost their ability to think objectively and have no remaining credibility outside their cliques.

I used to think of PSP as a rational, experienced voice who understood the art of compromise and getting things done.

    2. Dr. Nutbird is a disaster.

Of course it’s about begging for attention. It always is.

She recently admitted here EV has had an intrinsic bias the whole time, and she views it as a failure that her favoritism in moderating hasn’t created the specific political outcomes she desired.

      She admitted the obvious.

  38. 12:57 Nope, no memory problem. I heard it straight from Julie. The 4 terms was Julie’s excuse to the public, b/c she didn’t want to get in a war w/ Cremona. Julie tried to get along w/everyone, unlike Cremona who was always only out for herself. I can assure you Thunder wasn’t happy w/ Cremona's antics, and dirty politics.

She was the thunderous loudmouth at the meeting on the rail trail in Cardiff who was shouting down her neighbors and claiming to speak for everyone in the room.

It was rude and disrespectful to everyone in the room.

I decided that day I would oppose and work actively against her if she ever ran.

  44. 4:14 You’re right! Loonie Lorri Greene, “Nut Bird” loves playing the victim. Out of morbid curiosity, since she supposedly opened EV back up, I checked to see if it was true, and if could get on. But I’m still blocked. Even when I don’t log into Facebook and just Google EV I can’t see the page. I can only see the page if I log onto someone else’s computer. And even then I can only see posts, not comments. Lorri must’ve gotten that idea from Cremona or Blakespear. They’re the only ones I’ve ever known to do that.

  45. Why is Looney Tunes Lorri so pathetic, and so starved for attention? Doesn’t she know how to use her womanly wiles to illicit some attention from her husband? And since he’s a Rocket Scientist isn’t he smart enough to know she is in such desperate need?

But many like myself are among dozens who are still blocked, and are here to call her out on her b.s. How can someone who was supposed to be a Therapist be so untruthful and unethical? It’s why she was disbarred, so how can we expect anything different? Rhetorical questions…
