The reality? Not so much.
Union-Trib:
North Park's newest apartment complex, Casa Verde, did everything a modern developer is encouraged to do.Elimination of adequate parking requirements is one of the hallmarks of Encinitas's recent high-density development approvals.
Close to the 30th Street Bikeway and walking distance from just about everything, it has microunits designed to maximize space and almost no parking in the 94-unit structure -- encouraging San Diegans to give up their cars.
Yet developer George Champion said as soon as they started leasing in August, renters shied away from the project upon hearing about the parking situation. A few weeks ago, he changed course and bought more than 80 spots at the nearby North Park Parking Garage to renters will have free parking.
Then why all the shouting?
ReplyDeleteIf you really believe nobody will pay, then it’s a self-solving problem.
Capital wants a return. No return, no investment. No investment, no future projects.
The doom hyperbole suggests nobody really believes this.
The element of one thing is always left out.
DeleteThe left and the incredible stupidity that goes with being on the left. They destroy everything thing they do. Example would be the lie about man made global warming started 45 years ago and continues to this day. Lie after lie. These buffoons think people will use public transportation in Southern California?
ya...sure....only a moron would believe that.
Oh wait...they are morons.
Oh, the new apartments will just fill adjacent neighborhoods’ street parking. That’s the city’s plan.
DeleteA speaker last night referred to staff’s admission that overflow parking is part of the plan thanks to 1,000s of underparked high density units. Believe they claim a one bedroom allows just one car and a two bedroom 1.5 cars. You can thank Blakespear and Kranz for that. Maybe “Kramz” is more accurate.
DeleteAnd it’s why Kranz unilaterally declared the recent parking permit issued to suddenly include non adjacent apartment complexes to overflow into residential.
7:06, EU should check your own headline: “Nobody Wants. . . “
DeleteWhen they start changing their story, that’s a clear signal.
Less parking = more units. More units = greater profit for the developer. The real motive.
DeleteRemember, your fine State elected officials, who you voted for, passed these Assembly and State Bills. Careful what you wish for, er.......vote for.
ReplyDelete7:01pm. So says the moron minded moron. You are a fool and don't realize your have been fooled by whatever fake news source you rely upon. You are a hopeless moron, not that morons like you have any hope of educating themselves or ever will have the will to know any better. Tony gave us plenty of parking for fentanyl and human trafficking, drug addict sketch tweekers, can/bus lifers, homeless, contractor storage and advertising, boat storage, free parking for adjacent apartment landlords /developers, and greatly increased the flood runoff and flooding frequency and severity of the businesses and conditions along N. Coast Highway 101 were the city spending millions of dollars to try to address thereby increasing the costs to the taxpayer, and acres of tumbleweed
ReplyDeleteTony also gave us a fence that blocks coastal access and access to our local produce stores to get healthy green fresh healthy food from Just Peachy that we used to be able to walk to you and get it now the neighbors all have to drive to the stores and the beaches.
What TONY didn’t give us is a rail trail like BIA gave to her neighborhood in Cardiff.
So June H and the Vulcan girls, when is the city going to build a nice rail trail like BIA built down in Cardiff?
Will you still be alive by the time it’s built and how many of your kids and the neighborhood kids will be killed with their blood all over Vulcan Avenue by not building the rail trail while keeping the parking for the adjacent apartments?
Why not make all of that parking along Vulcan Avenue paid parking like in dog beach area of Delmar?
Then the people parking there can help pay their fair share for the future rail trail improvements?
Where are June and the Vulcan girls going to actually be effective at getting any positive change in Leucadia?
When will June H and the Vulcan girls support city council members that will actually help Encinitas instead of harm Encinitas?
If interested, watch the excellent presentation given by the smart women local hero’s who are absolutely fed up with the crappy conditions along Vulcan Avenue.

ReplyDeleteYou have to drive everywhere is you live in North Vulcan Avenue north of Encinitas Blvd. The conditions are sketchy and you have a major risk of being killed trying to walk or bike on Vulcan Avenue. Tony's fence blocks off coastal access and our access to Just Peach and other businesses that we used to walk to and support.
DeleteTony builds the high density projects and then fences all access off to healthy living.
Therefore, I conclude, Tony is an unhealthy choice for Encinitas City Council.

DeleteEvery 15 years or so a bunch of developers go bankrupt building stupid shit while chasing the market down. We saw it here with The Lofts and perpetually empty Whole Foods failure. McMansions will be the only things that pencil out. No parking condos in a public transportation desert just won’t garner much demand. The first new mega project will be a failure and only dumbest developers will follow. Then Marco will be lobbying for new rules while arguing against the old rules he helped champion. One hand feeds the other until some sucker is caught holding the bag. I predict it will be Swell properties, Lenar will get out.
ReplyDeleteThe "perpetually empty Whole Foods" space is fully leased with retail and office. Nice try though, ya dummy. Maybe if you got out of the basement and walked around downtown every once in a awhile you wouldn't make such stupid statements? And where are these "no parking condos" in Encinitas? Just keeping making shit up and spewing it on anonymous sites. It does a great job of convincing voters.
DeleteHow long was that prime piece of real estate vacant and you left out the Lofts example. Whole Foods dropped Encinitas, for a reason, but you can still get a great train brake dust burger there. Also, the reduced parking buildings have not been built yet and will probably be built with parking because those state laws are as empty as the BIA politicians who wrote them heads. If they are built at all. Nice spin though, I see why developers pay you the big bucks to pretend to be a conservationist.
Delete12:07, are you from central planning, where they know better than Nestor’s, and dictate to them what they must build with their money?
Deleteinvestors
DeleteWhile the Whole Foods space was empty, the parent company was still paying full rent. There was no incentive for the prior owners to re-lease it when they were getting paid the same amount to just sit on it. And FTR, the reason Whole Foods failed was because the City failed to make good on its intentions to increase density in the downtown area, which would be necessary to have enough nearby shoppers to support that use. The Lofts failed because the people involved were idiots and over leveraged their project. The current owners of the Lofts are sitting pretty on their current financing and equity since purchase.
DeleteInvestors know that new homes are going to be a tough sell in a couple years, about the time these projects start coming on line. Smart investors are waiting to buy low and sell high. People want single family homes now more than ever and that is what developers hav been building. Nobody wants to buy a condo a ,5 miles from the freeway that takes 45 minutes to go the .5 mile and has no parking. Each one of those projects will make the next that much worse.
DeleteCities don’t build homes, developers do and after the Lofts and Pacific station guess what they decided not to do?

This is the problem with the outrage class. They are mad, but don’t even bother to understand what they are mad at.
8:43- hello ignorant one.
DeleteThe bridge is owned by NCTD and it’s within the City Of Encinitas.
Both organizations are public agencies and serve the public.
The mosaic could’ve remained on the bridge and definitely. It was for the good of the public. Again our city Council let us down..
*The mosaic could’ve remained on the bridge indefinitely. It was for the good of the public. Again our City Council let us down..
DeleteGood Morning, this is Bob Nichols responding.
DeleteBoth locations are great and thank you for taking the time to consider what would be best for the Surfing Madonna. We're just thrilled that Mark's Surfing Madonna has a home in Encinitas, where it belongs.
While there is a historical beauty and sense of original roots in placing the mosaic back in its original location, there are also some big disadvantages.
Placing the mosaic back in its original location under the bridge would potentially create a liability between cars and visitors, resulting in potential lawsuit. It would also result in significantly higher insurance fees and probably lots of sticky red tape MOU agreements between SMOP, COE and NCTD. One of the disadvantages of working with COE and NCTD would be asking for permission every time a cleaning or replacing a tile was made. Too much red tape.
The current arrangement we have with Chip Conover (owner of Leucadia Pizzeria) is a great one. Chip is extremely friendly and really easy to work with. Furthermore, we were blessed to have artist, Kevin Anderson, paint a beautiful underwater scene below the Surfing Madonna in its current location. Thank you to Kevin Anderson.
Mike Redman also built a really cool free little library next to the Surfing Madonna for those who want to borrow and share books. Thank you Mike. Then there's the brick patio with over 200 bricks and pavers all dedicated to various people and organizations. There’s a lot of history in the those bricks and it would be heartbreaking for those people to see the mosaic moved. There’s also much better access for person with disabilities, which is really important.
For those reasons I think the Surfing Madonna should stay in its current location and I think Mark Patterson would have wanted it that way as well. He loved the shade and space the patio provided. Again, we’re just thrilled that the Surfing Madonna has a home in Encinitas.
Thank you for all your kind words regarding Mark and his beautiful gift to Encinitas.
Respectfully,
Bob Nichols

DeleteThe artist and the org have had a positive impact on Encinitas.
DeleteThe former CEO, not so much.
The good work of the org continues without all the narcissistic drama, showing that the drama was unnecessary, and the leadership was replaceable.
2:03 This is Bob Nichols. What a terrible thing to say about someone. Why?
DeleteI consider my 10 years as President and Chairman of Surfing Madonna great ones and so did the Board of Directors who unanimously voted for me each term. We had a great team of people and we did some amazing things.
Here’s a list of what I contributed and if you think you could of done a better job, well then I wish you would’ve joined the organization.
Started and built an award winning and nationally recognized special needs surf camp in 2014. Free for over 200 families each year. That surf camps still continues to this day with over 1,800 families to date being served.
2. Donated nearly $600,000 in program funding for our local marine habitat, persons with disabilities, at risk youth, Wounded Warriors, youth education programming on local habitat, our parks trail system and consistently donated to local organization that were making a difference.
3. In 2014 I started and built the largest beach run in the world according to the 2017 Guinness Book of World Records. That record still stands. Thousands of people from around the world competed in our world famous beach run, which was listed as one of the top 50 must do races in the world to do. The Surfing Madonna Beach Run filled up our hotels and restaurants bringing in millions to the businesses each year.
4. In 2016 I started and built the 2nd largest half marathon in San Diego, the Encinitas Half Marathon. This event brought in roughly 10,000 people each March. The event was labeled by many as one of Californias best Half Marathons. The economic impact on the hotels and restaurants was in the millions and this was in the down season of March.
5. We gave tens of thousands of dollars to SDA. Scholarships for kids who have kids and we also supported a lot of the teachers who needed additional funding for their programming.
6. We helped fund the City of Encinitas’s childcare programming for two years.
7. Donated $60,000 towards the Solana Beach skate park and nearly $100,000 to fix up Pacific View.
8. I negotiated the relocation of the Surfing Madonna from under the bridge to across the street and made sure that it had new ADA accessibility.
9. I installed mobility mats on beaches for persons with disabilities and purchased floating beach wheelchairs and new types of marine mammal rescue cages for our displaced pinniped population.
I’ve received awards from organizations across the country including Congress, Senate, Assembly, Proclamations from our District Supervisor, Catherine Blakespear, CA State Parks and several other city parks departments.
When I resigned from Surfing Madonna in 2021, I left the organization with nearly $500,000 in cash and investments. Enough money to continue surf camps for a very long time. All this from $0 and art on a wall.
I’m pleased with what I’ve done and I’m proud to know that the organization is in wonderful hands, with Mike Redman, Cathy Carey, and some outstanding board members who continue to lead and do wonderful work. I still donate and continue to help the Surfing Madonna.
Yes, the city parks department became difficult to work with, a lot of corruption, extortion and over billing. I finally grew tired of it, our board agreed and so we severed ties with the COE
2:03 This is Bob Nichols.
DeleteI encourage you to attend one of our Surfing Madonna special needs surf camps next year. Look at all the smiling faces, happy parents, kids, volunteers and onlookers. The joy and happiness is infectious. It motivates others to help those less fortunate. Like Mike Redman would say, “alluvialism”. That surf camp is all that is love and good.
We even teach the parents how to surf with their child, if they want, so they can do it on their own without help from others. Kinda like the old saying “teach a man to fish”.
Most of these families don’t have much money. Medical bills are high and having a full time job and supporting child with disabilities can be tough. Medical issues are often right around the corner and knocking on the door. So when these families learn that they can surf, hop in the water, and run on the beach for free, it’s the gift of a lifetime.
When these families see the joy that the beach and ocean brings them and their family they become immediate advocates for protecting our beaches and oceans, because the ocean is taking care of them. It almost becomes a symbiotic relationship.
I recommend that you volunteer with one of these surf camps and see the difference it makes in not just the child’s life, but the parents, friends, volunteers and onlookers. It’s beautiful and I’m extremely proud to have started it. It’s my greatest accomplishment in life.
Here’s a video of what the camps look like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OWD3oHKCI8
Bob, don't even give that person the time of day. You and Mark did a tremendous job for others. People who make comments like that usually have mentalhealth issues. DeleteHow about we keep the focus on Mark where it belongs?
DeleteI respect Mark because his art brought joy and inspired good works that continue to this day.
I respect Mark because he never treated people poorly and shouted “you work for me” at them.
Mark is respected because he never had to be asked not to communicate directly with business partners. And he never violated such an agreement.
Mark will be remembered as the kind of guy who never had Board members resign in protest at his atrocious behavior.
Mark was an honorable, humble guy, was never forced to quit and leave town. And he never no showed any council meeting where his integrity was in question.
Mark was the kind of guy who would never put the mission and operations of a org doing good work at risk by accepting an inflated salary while donations were in decline, inviting negative press.
He was a good man. And he will be missed. I’m glad the org his art inspired continues with good leaders.
5:06 this is Bob Nichols. You’re the one that focused on me, what you’ve said was ugly, hurtful and blatantly false. But you know what, I forgive you.

Mark was one a hell of guy and so is Bob, so STFU 2:06. I sat on SMOP’s board for 2 years and there were never any problems. I have friends that sat on that board ans well, all spoke highly of Mark and Bob. Never any drama or problems. I had wonderful time hanging out with SMOP.
DeleteThe only problem areas we had were with Parks Director Jennifer Campbell, now assistant City Manager and Tony Kranz.

Delete6:32 This is Bob Nichols, not Nickels. I'm treating you with some professional courtesy please do the same for me.
DeletePlease explain how Mark was my meal ticket, or why you would insinuate that I used him. Mark and I had been best friends since 1999. I’m getting ready to spread his ashes in locations that were special to him.
Why would you say such an ugly thing about my relationship with my best friend. I loved that man more then anything. We traveled together, lived together, worked together, we did everything together.
What kind of person says the kind of things you say, especially after their best friend just died.
Mark moved in with Megan and I from 2016-mid 2021 after he became ill. We took care of Mark because we loved him. He was family. We cooked for him, bathed him, traveled together, we did everything together as a family.
We enjoyed Marks company, he was fun and always in good spirits. I’m asking you to please be respectful of Mark, my wife and I.
I’m shocked at the total disregard for others feeling and well being that some have.
How am I being a narcissist?

DeleteYou state: "I respect Mark because he never treated people poorly and shouted “you work for me” at them."
My response: So a former disgruntled lifeguard, who was fired for stealing equipment, says that I shouted "you work for me" at them." Here's what happened....The lifeguard, who was getting paid $78 an hr was sitting in our race participants VIP section eating sandwiches, enjoying beverages, while everyone else was working. I let it slide for about an hour, then decided to confront the Lifeguard.
I never stated "You work for me" I said, "were paying to work and your eating our participants food". Big difference.
5:06
DeleteYou state: "Mark is respected because he never had to be asked not to communicate directly with business partners. And he never violated such an agreement."
I was never asked to not communicate directly with business partners. Nor did I ever violate any agreements. Your statement is completely false.
I worked with well over 100 businesses and organizations each year between our two major events and programming. Never was I asked to stop communicating with our business partners. We had an extremely successful track record with all of the hotels, restaurants and local business. They were our sponsors from 2013-2020, and they kept coming back because they did well at our events.
I'm just curious who or what would ask me to stop communicating with our own business partners?
5:06 You state: "Mark will be remembered as the kind of guy who never had Board members resign in protest at his atrocious behavior."
DeleteYou're right Mark never had Board members resign in protest at his atrocious behavior. Because he didn't have atrocious behavior and neither did I.
In the 10 years that I was unanimously elected COB and President, a total of 5 times, I never had a Board member resign in protest of my behavior. That's 100% patently false. If I was such a bad Chairman then why was I unanimously voted Chairman every two years for 10 years?
One board member resigned over our issue with the city. Name another board member that resigned over the issue? And that board member (Brad Hanson) who is on the Parks and Recs Commission made a statement on our behalf, stating that "City Parks handled things poorly, and I was always professional."

5:06 you state: "Mark was an honorable, humble guy, was never forced to quit and leave town. And he never no showed any council meeting where his integrity was in question."
DeleteMy Response: I was never forced to quit Surfing Madonna. Our incident with the city happened November, 2019. I resigned from Surfing Madonna 2 years after that, at the end of 2021, a total of 10 years.
Attached is my resignation letter dated, November 2021.

5:06 you state: "I was forced to leave town".
DeleteMy Response: Can you elaborate on how I was forced to leave town? Was I tied up and shipped to Oregon?
My wife and I bought a home in Oregon in 2018. We'd planned on buying home in Oregon long before that. I went to the University of Oregon, have friends up here and love the rugged coastline and all scenery and nature it provides.
We planned to move to Oregon a long time ago. When the Pandemic hit, we decided it was great time to move. We didn't want Mark to get sick, he was really starting to slip mentally and he loved Oregon. I'm happy we did it.
We still have a 50% stake in a home in Encinitas, I will always love Encinitas and consider her my home. There is no better place in the world than Encinitas. The weather is wonderful, there's a vast selection of restaurants, and we have a lot of friend in Encinitas.
My wife and I have houses in FL, TX, OR and a 50% stake in Encinitas. If we decided leave OR for TX or FL does that mean we were forced to leave as well?
5:06 Do you think it would've made a difference if I would've showed up for the council meeting?
Delete1. The informed us 72hrs before the meeting and put us last on a very busy agenda. We would've been speaking at midnight.
2. I had close to hundred residents and business owners ready to go to the council meeting. When the city placed us last on the agenda, I wasn't about to ask our supporters to stay until after midnight and speak. That wouldn't have been fair to them.
3. The city informed us 72hrs prior, I'm up in Oregon. Are my wife and I supposed to buy airline tickets for our dogs, Mark and head down on a moments notice?
The fix was in, council wasn't going to care what we had to say. They would've treated us just like they treated Bruce Ehlers.
I didn't want to work with the city parks department anymore. The illegal pay to play MOU that they demanded we sign or lose our events was getting old. The over billing was getting old. Dealing with Tony Kranz and Catherine Blakespear was getting old. The Board of Directors agreed. So we looked at organizations finances and decided we don't need to put on events anymore, we've got plenty of money to spend on special needs surf camps, art contests and other fun items. It was a win win.
And by the way, the City didn't drop us, we dropped them.
Here's a link showing my letter to the city council on Oct/24/2019 stating that we were done with them.

5:06 you state: "Mark was the kind of guy who would never put the mission and operations of a org doing good work at risk by accepting an inflated salary while donations were in decline, inviting negative press."
DeleteMy response: I take it you're saying my salary was too high. A salary that was never determined by me, but by the Board of Directors who. vetted each year.
Let's take a look at my salary, you'll quickly see that I qualified for food stamps 5 of those years. With the next few years being normal salary.
2011 - $0 (using my own money to fund the org)
2012 - $0 (using my own money to fund the org)
2013 - $0 (using my own money to fund the org)
2014 - $9,000 (using my own money to fund the org)
2015 - $29,000 (using my own money to fund the org)
2016 - $58,803
2017 - $85,245
2018 - $112,000
2019 - $123,000
2020 - $96,833
2021 - $0
For the first 5 years I helped fund the organization. Yes, I personally poured thousands of dollars into SMOP.
Finally my salary never came from donations as you state. It came from the proceeds of our ticket sales from our races. These races represented about 95% of our proceeds each year. Ticket sales are not considered donations. More on that later.
That was the beauty of Surfing Madonna, we didn't have to depend on donations, our races provided all our funds.
Anytime you give a 501(c)(3) money and receive a good or service, it's not considered a donation. For example, when you signup for one of our races and give us $50, you get a t-shirt, medal, timing chip, insurance, food, medical, swag bag, etc. There are a ton of cost that are put into these events. The beach run cost us about 80-100K each year, while the Encinitas Half Marathon cost us about $250K each year.
So you giving $50 to an 501(c)(3) to participate in their race, is not considered a donation, simply because you are receiving a good or service that we are paying for.
So your wild assumption that my salary was too high and came from donations is completely false.
Here's a link to our tax return documenting my salary:

Here's a link to the IRS code stating race entries are not donations:

5:06 you state: "He was a good man. And he will be missed. I’m glad the org his art inspired continues with good leaders."
DeleteMy response: I can agree with this and thank you for ending on a positive note. Mark was a great man, he loved people, animals, life and always put others ahead of himself. The universe gained a good soul and we lost one. There's no question the universe has big plans for Mark. It's unfortunate he was taken at such a young age (70) but like Billy Joel sings, "only the good die young".
Hope this concludes our conversation. Please let me know if you have any more questions.
Respectfully,
Bob

DeleteAttached is a screenshot quote from Brad Hanson of the Parks and Recs Commission, and President and Chairman of the Leucadia 101 Mainstreet Association.
I think this sums up what happened.
Brad Hanson states: "Marco Gonzalez you know so little about the negativity surrounding these events and I’m thoroughly disgusted by your comment. I’ve worked first hand with the city as a board member of SMOP. I’ve been attending all planning meetings for at least 3 years and there was any negativity until this past October. The event in October was the first time there was any measurable activity due primarily to mistakes made by clerical staff and city employees not owning up to the mistakes. Things could have been handled differently by both our organization and the City. If handled better or more professionally by all parties we would never be where we are today." - Brad Hanson
Yes the city was at fault as stated by Brad Hanson.

John Agoh of Rancho San Diego had a look of disgust on his face as he filled up his Chevy Suburban Wednesday morning at a downtown gas station.
ReplyDelete“It’s just ridiculous,” he said as the digits on the display screen flew by. “The high price of gasoline is affecting my home budget. It’s costing me so much.”
SANDAG Board of Directors just voted on Road User charge which would increase the cost of driving. How did Tony Kranz vote?
The San Diego Association of Governments’ Board of Directors Friday voted 15-4 to remove any mention of the Mileage Tax, sometimes referred to as a Road User Charge, from its 2025 Regional Plan.
Sandag Votes To Remove Mileage Tax
SANDAG Board votes 15-4 to remove Mileage Tax
The proposed plan to tax drivers for every mile they drive was extremely unpopular among San Diego voters,
A four-cents-per-mile road usage tax proposal and two half-cent regional sales taxes proposed for 2022 and 2028 were some of the key funding strategies SANDAG leadership proposed.
The four regions that voted “No,” were Encinitas, La Mesa, Lemon Grove and National City.
The representatives for those regions are;
Encinitas: Mayor Tony Kranz
La Mesa: Councilmember Jack Shu
Lemon Grove: Mayor Racquel Vasquez
National City: Vice-Mayor Luz Molina
Looks to me that Tony is not supporting Encinitas or north county at all. Recent actions include:
1. Welcoming and giving free needles to heroin addicts in Encinitas.
2. Supporting the state to build as much mega density and tall boxes throughout Encinitas to maximize developers profits.
3. Supports the conversion of downtown Encinitas to a drug out drunk scum zone like PB.
4. Fences off coastal access and is destroying our City's roads with unsafe BIA bike killing designs.

Noted! My apologies Admiral.
DeleteIf you think the mileage tax is really gone for good, consider that EV unit sales represent 25% market share in CA and climbing.
ReplyDeleteNow guess how much they contribute to the gas tax fund for road and bridge maintenance. Now guess how much they weigh, which is a function of wear and tear on roads.
Gas tax was always a proxy for mileage and road wear and tear anyway.
Mileage tax will be back, either as a standalone, or additive to the gas tax to create incentive to buy electric.
Make peace with it.

Graig posted a spot on post out the knee Jerk reactions of Town Dunce on Encinitas Votes FB site.
ReplyDeleteHow much does The Dunce's desire to build unneeded community facilities and shrine's really cost Encinitas?
Look a the fiasco when The Dunce decided the City should buy property for a second community center right near the beach which costs a ton in long term maintenance because of the corrosive marine environment at the beach. Now the City has dumbed $20,000,000.00 into PV with no end in sight, plus staff building costs in perpetuity for a second community center. How many Encinitas residents will really use the second community center?
Have you notices there has never been a staff report to City Council addressing the long term goals, objectives, costs, and budget for Pacific View? Its apparent that The Dunce and Ant Hill are purposely trying to keep it buried and not discussed in open public at a public meeting.
I would love to see Bruce Ehlers make a motion to request staff to place the Pacific View Operations Plan including long term operational goals, staff, costs, schedule (timeframe), and budget on a City Council agenda within the next 2 months.
The PV fiasco will help highlight the issues facing the City with the last debt action from City Council.
I fully respect and agree with Craig's the below post. Well done!
I am a little torn on this as I am happy to see open space preserved. However I am thinking its popularity may decrease now that it has been disclosed that the City does not have the money to purchase the land and will have to borrow (at the highest rate in 30 years!). How do you borrow money for a property that has negative income? If you are .GOV you simply take it from a different taxpayer pocket ...so there will be $386,000 less available for filling potholes , public safety etc. each year for the next 30 years.
https://www.encinitasadvocate.com/news/story/2023-09-21/city-to-issue-bonds-to-fund-6-million-open-space-purchase-1-43-acre-site?utm_id=112082&sfmc_id=2047776
What shrine will The Town Dunce want to borrow money to buy next and is he really who we want negotiating deals for Encinitas?
Remember, The Dunce's opening offer on a property with an asking price of $9,500,000.00 was $500,000.00 over asking price. 🤔🤭 🤔

DeleteAttention Steve Golden! Bruce Ehlers is a proponent of Streetscape and voted Y on the new and also soon to be debt ridden city property known as Surfers Point.
DeleteBased on the chart the finance staff showed last week, I'm measuring $550,000 per year.
DeleteWe are paying way more for the unbuilt streetscape, Hall Park, and some 2015 library bonds.
* Craig A. Nelson
ReplyDeleteThe annual bond payment is expected to be $386,000, she said.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the annual bond payments for PV and now the annual City operating budget and the long term depreciation budget for the long term O&M costs of PV?
Combine, I bet its well over $1,000,000.00 and a big part of the reason why the City's roads are crumbling and the City has no money for any other project.
This is the direct result of putting The Town Dunce on the City Council.
Thank you 🐖👧, Starvin', Marco, Mali, John Gjata, Kathleen Lees, BIA, Nathan Fletcher and other predators for taking the lead in destroying Encinitas.
Next election, get the word out. Elections have short and long term consequences. Get out and vote and NO DUNCES ON CITY COUNCIL.
Blakespear and Gonzales are proponents of this insane idea. Speedy greedily counts his pesos, while proclaiming he is an advocate of the under class. The only under class representation are his ethics and sheer hypocrisy. Blakespear is and always has been a sell out. promoting her self interest above that of the community.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to ignore some of the similarities between Fakespear and Bobby Nickels. The most obvious similarity based on recent displays is that both love to talk endlessly about how great they think they are. They also both believe they deserve praise for spending other people's money, while being paid by other peoples money. Most importantly though, both don't know when they should just shut the hell up and walk away.

Blakespear refused to be interviewed by the Union Tribune over the SANDAG credit card scandal, where over $2 million in inappropriate charges were made. Nothing ever came of it, as it seemed like a cover-up was instigated. That would be embezzlement. but the DA did nothing.
DeleteBlakespear is a dependent scum. Always a tech living off of someone else like her mommy or the tax payer. She can’t make it in the real world. She lives in her whiter than white racist compound on the way to Street on Birmingham Drive in Cardiff. Bossing the brown people around.
DeleteAll she gives a shit about is her people.
* Always a tick living off of someone else like her mommy or the tax payer. Went to Utah to find a white as possible mate for her offspring. Somebody ask the Town Dunce, will Encinitas homeless shelter, be requiring passports to confirm if the homeless are US citizens before receiving a bed?
ReplyDeleteThat doesn’t seem fair. People coming from around the world need shelter. And you welcome them here! House them!!
https://youtu.be/14UzC2yzGP4
The homeless situation should be a County concern, not taken on by the city budget. Another blunder on the part of "Mayor" Blakespear to arbitrarily assume the responsibility, which the County will take as a precedent.
DeleteHey Tony, you better start building a whole lot more beds.
ReplyDeleteHow about building a tent city at Pacific view and City Hall parking lot to start with….
Then think about a high-rise homeless shelter at surfers point and pacific view…. The privileged affordable housing apartment renters should not be the only ones getting the great ocean views taken from the Sheridan, Andrew, and Hill crest drive residents.
Let’s let the homeless have great ocean views. They’ve had a hard life and they really deserve a nice view once in a while. Come on let’s be good citizens and help the homeless and once they’re in a home, they can work on their heroin and fentanyl behaviors.

ReplyDeleteThere but for fortune could go you. Your lack of caring for others less fortunate is a failure of yours alone.
I’ll expect you to sign up for providing for hundreds of the refugees and sponsoring them. You do your part and let other do as they chose. Thank you for caring and sponsoring so many refugees, and not being a racist with all virtual signals and no helping action like BIA.
DeleteYou clowns are brain dead idiots. Take them into your ghetto apartments. Al 7 million.
DeleteYou probably pay zero in income tax.
I tell you what 2:44...why don't you move to where the illegals come from. That way, each day you can help them with your bleeding heart of ignorance.
DeleteOr, maybe you can live in areas where 13 percent of the population commits 50 percent of the crime in America. That's right 13/50 the sub-human commits.
You are the brilliant one aren't you? A true legend.
ReplyDeleteIn your mind only. Oh, and in your mirror too.
Again City of Encinitas needs to be investigated or sued again.
ReplyDeleteThey are cutting free speech in open meetings. Why did they cut The Town Dunce at minute 1:49:21 ? Here:

Was it because he was saying things that would get the City Sued and loss tax payer funds.
What do you think Mr. Fletcher's brother? or his wife resembling Hillary with slightly less pale skin color?
Any legal opinion? since you both love to opine on things.
How is your friend Filner doing these days? Now that Fletcher and Filner have so much in common, are the BBQ's a gas?
Watch this and tell me how Marco, Fetcher, and Filner love to talk about the next hunt.

So sad about Hillary JR. Marcos sis....
The communist left strikes again
ReplyDeleteActually, it is the domestic terrorist right that is causing a strike, the kind that shuts down the government, stops payments to many in need and screws our reputation around the world. Great job right wingers. You are so patriotic.
ReplyDeleteWait...4:30, I thought people on the "right side of things" were racists. Now we are domestic terrorists?
DeleteI can't keep up. I had no idea how bad we are.
"everything the left does...they destroy, simply look at the state the state and country"
"man made global warming...the man made lie"
DeleteMake that pathetic. These sorry excuses for representatives are the gang that cannot shoot straight. These are your people.
ReplyDeleteRacists and being a domestic terrorist is not exclusive. You are both. You are much more than those two labels. In time, you will show us even more of your mental acuity. ha. Now that is a joke.
ReplyDeleteyou are 12:02...a nut case.
Delete5:01pm. That did not take you long to prove my point. Brilliant as always, in your mind, whatever there is remaining of it. Thanks.
ReplyDelete1:34 and you probably think biden doesn't have Alzheimer's and harris can complete a coherent sentence.
DeleteSufficient parking has traditionally in this city has been a giveaway to every developers wishes and dreams for ever more profit off the degradation of our town.
ReplyDeleteIt appears this selling out will never end. Screw the residents and their concerns over anyone parking anywhere in front of peoples homes.
Would a new majority be any different? It would be worth a try because we know this giveaway will not stop with the current administration in power.
Neighborhood parking permits? I will believe that when it happens and won't be holding my breath in the meantime.
Delay, delay. We have heard this song and dance before too many times.
It would be easy if the planning dept. would demand that every project include enough parking to prevent their neighbors from being overrun in front of their homes.
Any want to take a bet that will ever happen with our planning dept.'s incestuous relationship with developers? Not I.
The planning department and city council have the law on their sides. Appreciate your point of view, but please do your homework before you rant. Our state leadership is creating the laws that remove parking requirements and worse from future developments.
