A man was fatally struck by a southbound BNSF freight train in Encinitas Saturday night, authorities said.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the incident happened around 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of Vulcan and D Street.
Responding deputies confirmed the man did not survive his injuries. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will publicly identify the victim once his family is notified.

BNSF may kill a few peeps a year…. But the empty Coaster kills one to two a day it seems …. It’s a regular blood machine.
Blaming the trains, empty or not, is a false equivalence to why some lost souls choose to end their life on the tracks.

I dare say, after fifty plus years around here, there are hardly more than a select very few who were not accidents.
There is nothing you can do for these lost souls who see no future worth hanging onto. The train engineers have to feel some responsibility every time and for them I feel the pain, even though it was never their fault.
Lowering the tracks as Solana Beach managed to do would be helpful if there was any motivation by our council to do so.
There has never been any serious effort by our council to do what they know is needed. This division of our community needs to end and cannot remain as it is now.
Lower the tracks. Create a rail area where residents can cross the lowered tracks wherever they choose.
Does Solana Beach have to deal with these intentional railway suicides like we do here in Encinitas? I suspect not.
